I have no idea how anyone can give less than 5 stars to this amazing company! I do a great deal of research on a company when hiring someone, so when I picked Hewes, I knew they were going to be good. However, they FAR exceeded my expectations! Not only do they do a great job in the move itself, they also go the extremes in making sure they handle your items as careful as possible. they are also fast (but cautious) and are extremely personable! The cost is very reasonable on top of all of that. If that was not enough, when all had been unloaded and they were done, I told the owner that I was now on my to get some things out of a second storage unit now that they had put my main items in a larger one and he insisted on helping me with this and no additional charge! who does this!? I have been in the moving business for years and when I got too old to move myself I was concerned about finding someone I could trust. It was like meeting a brother. The guys who came took direction and worked well together and safely and carefully and all my cares went away. Downsizing is a tough experience and they made it great, even getting big stuff into a really small home with narrow halls and tight doorways... no nicks or dings. I wish I could give this company ZERO stars. I contacted this company last minute because the movers on yelp that I had previously hired were absolute crap. So I called Hewes. Bill was very nice and friendly and said he had movers available, but what he didn't tell me is that he was sending kids. Teenagers. Not grown adult men, but kids. When we were there at the house, they worked their ass off but as soon as we left, they slowed down, played on their phones and took their sweet time. We had a security camera up, so we know exactly what they did, and didn't do. They not only lost multiple items that belong to us, but stole My Son's brand new air compressor and left behind over $2000 worth of our belongings in the other house. We had to go back The next day and get what we could. I have a minivan so I couldn't put that much in there, so I still had to leave behind thousands of dollars worth of items. I am upset and I am angry and I will make sure that no one ever hires this company again. Seriously don't hire them. I almost feel bad for the owner of the company because he had to eat $1000 loss. Thanks to those kids I wasn't about to pay him. No way in Hell. unprofessional. Lazy. Never hire children to do a grown man's job. Hewes Family Movers stored our furniture for three months before moving it north to the frozen tundra in early January, 2023. Their moving quote was far and away the best of the 3 quotes we received and he stuck to the quote. Their workers were timely, hard working, efficient and polite. Hewes said what they would do and did what they said. I am thankful for the entire staff from the owner, to Billy who provided our quote (and helped during actual move, to Christin who answered all of my questions along the way. I'm so late writing this review. Hewes moved us at the beginning of the year. Our move was about 70 miles, and we priced several options before settling on Hewes. Overall, we were happy, which is what the owner promised from the beginning. The reason for three stars: We were quoted incorrectly. What I thought the estimate stated was two trucks/four men, resulted in one truck/two men. When they showed up, I said "Is this it?" They assured me if it wasn't enough, they would call more out. Within a hour, they had already called the owner to let him know they would not get our four bedroom home loaded in one trailer. When the owner came out, I let him know I thought they quoted me two trucks/four men, and I was very concerned the price was going to double since the crew and trucks had just doubled. He said "in the end, all we care about is your happiness." He said he was going to provide the second truck at no cost, but we'd have to pay the labor for the men. Fair enough. Fast forward to the poor owner not being able to find any available men, so he was at my house moving the furniture out himself. One additional guy finally came, but for the unload, we just had the two original guys. This dragged the process out for much longer. As for the quality of the move, the guys did an amazing job. Not a single thing was broken in the process. The movers were VERY nice, respectful guys. Our original quote was $980. In the end, the price was $1480. This hurt me a little, not gonna lie. Their discrepancy ended up costing me more than half my original quote, but in the end, I was moved in, the guys worked themselves to death and still had over an hour drive back, and we just felt like ultimately it was worth not having to endure the process ourselves. I will say that I went back through my documents from Hewes, and there was nothing in the quote that said how many men/trucks would show up to my house. Not sure if this was missed, but I searched my email and paper files for this information with no luck. This would have been helpful to have, so that I could have told the owner what the estimate was from the beginning to help him narrow down where the mistake happened. Overall, I highly recommend, just get everything you can in writing (duh). read more

My husband accepted a job offer near Boston, MA, but they wanted him to start in less than a month! We got quotes from several moving companies, including both the big-name national companies and local, family-owned businesses like Hewes. Hewes had great reviews, was willing to work with us on our last-minute timeline, and was also able to work within the budget of our modest relocation assistance amount to give us what we needed. Other companies wanted to charge twice as much, move us in a large trailer with two other sets of stuff on the same truck, and give us a 3-5 day delivery window. Hewes did our move only on their genius van-trailer combo, arrived at exactly the move date and time we needed, and gave us the most reasonable price. We even had to adjust the moving itinerary by a day just three days before they were scheduled to load, and they made the changes just as we requested. On moving day, a team of three guys came and loaded our things. Because they have a van + trailer, they can load fragile things like lamps, pictures, paintings, etc. into compartments in the van that keep them protected. These guys were incredibly nice, worked very quickly, were very careful with our things, and according to my four year-old, "They're the strongest men I've ever seen!" The delivery team of two guys drove our stuff up, stayed in touch, and arrived exactly when we scheduled. They did a great job and were also super nice. Great company, great people, great job. Honestly I don't even have a chance to review them as movers but I can review how their service! Waited for them to show up and give me an estimate and an hour late no show or call. I called and the receptionist said she would call them and ask but never returned my call. A half hour later I called and she asked if I was the last who earlier and I said yes. She said oh I'm so sorry let me try to get him and one of us will call back. She called back a few minutes later and said Tyler said he completed all his jobs for the day!!! My first time and last time using a moving company. First of all they never answer the phone you have to leave a voice mail and wait for a return call. Moving equipment needed to be replaced vehicle and trailer both dirty and dented they even hit my mailbox. My estimate was reasonable but when they were done they try to charge my wife $400 more than the estimate because the mover said it was more work than what they thought. Now I am starting to realize they did not deliver my workout equipment and they said they hooked up washer but no they did not the list goes on we were just very disappointed after reading all the great reviews read more

I have used Hewes family movers twice and they were by FAR the most reasonable with price. I cannot say enough about their customer service and attention/care for your personal items. Moving is stressful and trusting complete strangers to move your personal belongings (some of which are incredibly fragile) is difficult - however these guys (I happened to have the same 2 movers for both of my moves) were great and really paid careful attention. The office team was great at planning - got me scheduled with less than a weeks notice. Movers showed up on time and were very quick. I have recommended them to anyone and everyone moving in atlanta and will continue to recommend to ANYONE looking for quality movers without the incredibly high prices that come with some of the other in-town companies. Every time I have had movers in Atlanta Bill has given me the best quote and by far the best service. Insurance is always included, never extra. In the metro Atlanta area he doesn't charge travel time. He even gives discounts for veterans. Bill and his guys have been more than fair on the time they clocked for the work. On Aug 7, 2018 We used Hewes Family Movers to move from Griffin to McDonough GA We were very disappointed with the many crews that "Bill" sent to our house. We paid extra to store the furniture from 08/07 to 08/08/2018 and for the moving. The truck with the furniture broke down & they moved our items to a different truck. Well, they didn't move all of our items - where are our items? No one knows. Bill promised to replace the damaged furniture or have it cleaned, etc. He NEVER came through with his promises. He has a lot of excuses why everything happened. The excuses had nothing to do with the moving or repair. What a mess he left for my 74 yr old husband and myself. We always tip the men that moves us, but this time only tip was go back to school & get a real job. This was handled by the fly-by-night company (cheap cheap cheap). Again what a mess to leave us with. This company does not deserve 1 star, but I couldn't give "Bill" and his crews a 0 star. Bill asked me why I didn't buy more insurance, so he is not obligated to do anything as he 1st promised. Well, Bill if I have known I was going to deal with all this unnecessary mishaps We would of used someone else. People listen to these complaints. I have pictures to prove all of it. My family had to find a reliable mover, so we checked on yelp for movers. We called a total of 4 movers to get a quote. Of the 4 companies I called only one company offered to come out to my home and give me an exact quote. The other 3 only offered a phone quote, by asking me what was in every room, how many boxes I had, how many rooms, how much furniture, and more additional questions. Mind you this is a 4 bedroom home with a finished basement, 3600 square ft. Well how can you give me an accurate quote if you don't see it for yourself. Then when they come out, the quote you received is wrong because now the see what you have. Well Bill Hewes offered to come out in order to give us an exact quote. upon his arrival he went room, to room noting what we had in every room, how many boxes, what type of furniture, all fragile materials, and explain how he would handle the fragile pieces. They even took extra care to move a large green egg grill. The price he gave us was reasonable, and he said it would not go beyond the original quote, but it may be less depending on how long it would take to make the move. It turned out to be less. His crew arrived with 3 large moving vans the morning of the move. Everyone was super courteous, polite, ,well groomed and in uniform. We have moved at least 4 times and this was by far the best experience. These guys worked tirelessly for the whole move. I would definitely hire them again. They guarantee their price and they stick to it ... there is absolutely no haggling or no last-minute surprises They said yes to every request we had including disconnecting and connecting appliances and even making an additional stop in another state to pick up an additional piece of furniture on the way .The date and timing of the move was done according to our convenience , and any minor problems that occurred were handled in an efficient and professional manner . This was a long move from Atlanta to Connecticut and the price was reasonable and actually better than some of the other companies we contacted . What I find truly amazing is that you don't pay a penny until the move is completed and you are satisfied . That is totally different from any other moving company I have ever dealt with. I had a terrible experience with this company. This company claims to provide you with an immediate call back but when I called I got a voice mail and they did not return my call until 2 hours later. When I made a statement about the fact that the call back was not immediate, the company stated that I was complaining. I tried to work with them on my dates and they decided that they didn't want to work with me. This company has exhibited the worst customer service that I have ever experienced. read more

We recently used Hewes Family Movers for our residential move. They came highly recommended by a friend who had already used them twice. She told me I wouldn't regret using them, and I don't! They did a fabulous job! I spoke with several moving companies, and Bill Hewes was the only person who came out to assess my things in person and give me an estimate. His crew was on time, professional and friendly, and very, very careful with my belongings and respectful of my houses - both old and new. I used Hewes Family Movers for not one, but two moves. What a mistake!!! I chose them based on reviews. The first move was fine - moved my mother and did a great job. Two weeks later they moved us - ugh!!! I have a very, very heavy tool chest, which i fully informed them was extremely heavy. It's a very nice, expensive chest with a large amount of tools. We also have a French door refrigerator, which I believe should be pretty common. They got everything packed and took the keys to the tool box and put them in the top drawer. When we got to our new house it came off first. I told them it broke down and they would be better to move it in pieces as they had to move it some distance. They didn't listen to me. Going across the front porch they dropped it and tools flew out everywhere, broke 4 handles and they simply crammed them back in drawers and kept going. They finally got it in place and there are footprints on the sides where they kicked it....seriously?? They slammed it so hard the locking mechanism slammed shut and locked the keys inside. I did not follow them out, but found this AFTER they left...they didn't say a word. They had to use my tools to re attach the handles to the refrigerator and they scratched the front of a brand new stainless steel refrigerator. I called the office the next day and was assured the owner would call me by 10 am. Nothing..not. a. word. Finally around 7 pm that night he calls and tells me just how busy he is. Offers to fix my refrigerator and look at the tool box handles. I agree with that and don't file an insurance claim.. what a mistake. Bill Hewes, the owner, has called and texted numerous times with promises of what he's going to do and has done nothing. He makes a second appointment with me today to fix my refrigerator (he had to cancel the first one) and calls and cancels it. I tell him I'm fed up with his empty promises of nothing....he hangs up and sends me a text that he's to mature to listen to this craziness. This is now 2 months later, nothing has been done and he can't handle to criticism of his company. Run, do not walk, away from Hewes family movers. read more

Hands down this is the best moving company I have used ever! I was overly apprehensive when it came to deciding which moving company to go with. I mean, this is my stuff they're moving!!! Coincidentally, I happened to see the Hewes Family Movers truck on I-75 as I was headed to work one morning. I followed up by taking a look at their website. I thought to myself, these look like nice people. I could definitely have them move my belongings. I was scheduled to move on Saturday, May 31, 2014. When I contacted them, Hewes Family Movers sent someone out right away to give me a free estimate on my move. I loved that he wasn't pushy and didn't pressure me. He gave me the estimate, and stated that hopefully I would go with them. Once the moving date came, they were about 45 minutes late. However, the owner did call ahead of time to inform me of this, which was much appreciated. I understand that sometimes things happen out of our control, and that is exactly what happened on my move date. I was glad that the owner explained what happened. Once they began packing, they were quick and professional, all while taking care of my items. They engaged in friendly conversation, but stayed on the task at hand. The move came in at about $100 below what I was quoted, which was awesome! Great company, even better people. My mother and sister were there to watch the move in process and commented several times about how professional and friendly the movers were. I will keep them in my contacts for any future move I may have and as a referral. I cannot imagine going with anyone else, and am appreciative for their hard work. These movers are in a totally different league than any others we have ever used. They moved my son's belongings from. 2400 square foot house from Norfolk, Va to Atlanta, Georgia . They sent 6 men in 3 trucks who were extremely hardworking, friendly, courteous, and treated our belongings like their own. There was not even a nick in anything they handled for us. They were flexible and gave us the dates and exact times we wanted, returned all email or phone falls promptly, and didn't ask for any money at all until the job was completed to our satisfaction. They also were willing to disconnect appliances and reconnect them in the new house, disassemble and reassemble any furniture that needed that done, take window ac units out and reinstall them in the new house, and when the washer needed a different type of plug although they don't do electrical work, they showed my husband step by step how to do it . All of this saved us a lot of money by not having to hire a handyman . My son had various electronics that he was worried about being damaged in high heat in a regular moving van and these movers put them in an air conditioned van for travel and kept them cool for one night storage in a warehouse using a portable ac unit until they delivered them to the new house 2 days after the move. They were willing to move all types of belongings that my son had including plants, bottles, food, etc. Many other movers I contacted would not touch those items. The price quote was guaranteed so we didn't have to worry about movers invoking up to a 15% cap like has happened to us twice before with other movers. Moving is stressful enough, and Hewes Family Moving Company eliminated much of this stress. Their delivery window for such a long move ( over 550 miles) could have been the next day if we wanted. None of this nonsense about waiting 3 to 14 days for your belongings. I would highly recommend them for any type of move, local or long distance. They are superior!!! read more

My husband and I helped my friend move a few years ago. We decided when my mother came to live with us recently to use professional movers. Hewes Family movers had great ratings on Kudzu so we used them to move my mother. They were polite, professional, and handled her antiques with great care. They even moved her vintage VW bus by loading it a van. We were ao happy with their work, we used them again when we moved to our retirement home. To: Hewes Family movers, I was uncertain about the rating, 2 or 3. I have to preface this by saying that I moved three times last year, physically and emotionally very traumatic, and my last move from Atlanta to Pueblo delayed my review as I was met with unexpected catastrophes, a hit-and-run accident, not my fault, pneumonia, and three mandatory surgeries. This made for a slow settlement. That said, my first move was handled by American Transportation System in Albuquerque and Atlas. Everything got to Atlanta, Georgia in perfect condition, not one thing damaged with antiques crated. I saved those crates. My second move was Hewes within Atlanta, and it went beautifully, everything perfect with the most careful movers ever. For that, I would have rated Hewes 5 stars, excellent! My third move was from Atlanta to Pueblo, Colorado, very expensive, unreasonably so as my first move was about $5,000, and the last $9,000, but it had to be done quickly, and I trusted Hewes implicitly as the best. As I recovered from health issues and proceeded to unbox and polish furniture, I realized that Hewes had turned down the crates for the antiques, but trusted them anyway. While polishing the antiques, the finish came off the headboard to 150 year old bed coming off like mud, lowering its value, but as there is no one here to restore it, I tackled the problem myself, but very distraught. I am still working on it. One piece is missing off the Victorian hall stand, lowering its value. Every piece of furniture had a dint, a scratch, or abrasion except the inexpensive pieces, very few. Once beautiful furniture, and now, I am faced with repair jobs for everything. I dust and polish and end up angry and in tears, and I trusted them! The two young men who moved me here were very nice young men, Chris and his helper, who simply saw this as stuff, old stuff that didn't matter. The antique bed was most likely placed in a part of the truck that was very hot, and it melted the finish which was primarily waxed, not painted or varnished. So I am trying to repair once nice furniture, a shelf put together wrong, a sewing machine dropped upside-down. I am super late in doing this review, and often thought I would simply dismiss it and live with the sad consequences, but as I work through the mess, the repairs, I become so upset at this that I can no longer say nothing. I trusted them, and they failed, but they really loved the outrageous price which they received immediately. I hate hurting anyone, and value small businesses, but I have to say something. The big companies usually get the bad reputation, but my experience with American Transportation System and Atlas was great and Hewes within Atlanta was also smooth. Used Hewes in 2015 and had great success with them - would have given them a 5 star rating. Moved again in 2016, immediately called them back since we had had a great experience before. This move was horrible. They damaged freshly painted walls, newly refinished hardwood floors, new linoleum in the laundry room, expensive dining room furniture, and more. When I reported it to them initially, they were very helpful. They sent a repair man our but he ended up damaging more than he fixed. He was belligerent, late, sloppy. Hewes agreed(in writing) that I should get my flooring and walls repaired on my own and that they would repay me for damages. They even emailed me to tell me the "check is in the mail." Months later, no check. I am out of pocket for all the repairs and my dining room floor is damaged beyond easy repair. Bill Hewes now refuses to answer my messages and emails. Bill also put in an email to me that they had to let several guys go bc of all the damage they caused and if it kept up at that pace, he would have to go out of business. In their sales call, they will brag about their integrity - please beware that they are not honest. read more

High degree of UNPROFESSIONALISM and GOING BACK ON WORDS !! I read a lot of good reviews about Hewes movers and had a guy called Tyler come in for an on- site estimate for our move to Plano, Texas. After looking at the whole house, he wrote on his estimate sheet 1 truck- 3 men and roughly gave us an estimate of 2800. The next day, when we wait for a formal estimate, another guy Bill calls us and tells us that the estimate is a $6000 !!!! Me and my husband were shocked at the very sound of it and asked him to go back to his guy Tyler and ask him. Rather than trying to work the things out for us when we were given an estimate by their guy, they started escaping us and stopped answering calls. We tried calling again and now their new found reason to avoid us was that two trucks were needed and that Tyler was the guy for local estimates. . I WOULD SUGGEST TO NEVER GO WITH THIS KIND OF UNRELIABILITY AND LIES.I tried but somehow this post does not allow attachments but I swear to god that this is the truth which i just want to bring to the notice of everyone,so they don't get left in the lurch...... read more

In the beginning, they were great. They sent very polished, friendly person to do the sales pitch. Send a very friendly, great team to do the packing, however I noticed some of the items were not packed in boxes. TVs, pictures, and good couches were not wrapped either. When everything was put into storage, my good dining room chairs were stacked on top of each other. I sent a picture to the sales guy and he sent someone out to look and said they wanted to fix this for me. The guy that came out said that they should have wrapped packed my pictures and the dining room chairs should not have been stacked that way without blankets or something to protect them. So I asked if they could come out and fix. The sales guy said yes, they would be out and look at dates. That was on June 22. Have not heard back. We were going to use them to move us to Maryland, but since we haven't heard from them and since they didn't fix their mistake, there would be no way I would use them again. So disappointed. They started out strong in the beginning, but once they received our money, did not hear from them again. Would not recommend. read more
