I only rent from this location because of its excellent people. They always take great care of me and make my experience enjoyable and easy. The staff are wonderful especially Madge. However Hertz regularly overbooks this site and they run out of cars. You might have a 2 hour wait or no car at all. What is going on at Hertz? This is a corrupt, criminal enterprise. When you have to make a change to your reservation or exchange a vehicle, they take advantage of you and up-charge you an incredible amount. Initially, I had rented a car from Dollar JFK that had problems. I called the company's customer support, and was given permission to exchange my original car with another. The nearest place to do so was the Hertz Counter at Westchester County Airport in White Plains, NY. My original reservation with Hertz (Dollar but same company) was for 10 days and $657.88. When I exchanged the car after 4 days, I was charged $434.74 for that car and then given a new contract for a different car. I was charged $762.17 for this 6-day rental. So, even though my original rental for the 10 days was for $657.88, I had to pay $1,196.91 because I exchanged cars. So, although I was authorized to exchange cars, I was charged an additional $539.03. The agent had told me that I would have to pay a $200 penalty for returning the car to a different location, but he never mentioned paying an extra $539.03 overall. read more

Upon pick up I was told there were no cars available and they were "sold out" only to go online and book a car at that same location. The employee told me I would likely have to pick up my car at the airport.... When they had cars available.... This dealer was problematic at my pickup as they charged me more than my reservation fee. I went through my T-Mobile Magenta pass, and they tried to charge me to pay for the gas on arrival without honoring my Magenta pass. Then they tried to charge me for gas after my inspection when I returned the vehicle. I reminded them again that I had the Magenta pass, and they said they would take care of it. Then I got a call from their support line claiming that I didn't return the vehicle. I called the support line to resolve this issue. They assured me that I would no longer be charged $100 daily because the issue was resolved but I had to make a dispute claim for the extra charges with the billing department. I never received a confirmation. I tried to dispute the claim on their website but again, there was no confirmation. There is no way the support rep would allow me to resolve the issue if they couldn't prove that they had the car in their possession. This has been the worst experience ever. It felt like theft at every step, and I can't fathom that Hertz can't track their cars. read more

I wish I could give ZERO stars. I booked a midsize vehicle through Expedia. The location closes at 4pm. I began calling this location at 1pm to confirm I would still be able to pick up the car if I arrived at 3:45pm (when my train got in from NYC). I called a dozen times, chose several different options to attempt contact with the location. I called a different Hertz location nearby, and they provided me with the manager's number. I called the manager-- who was extremely unhelpful. I asked him to help me get in contact with the staff at this location. His response: "I'm not even there right now." I arrived at this location 10-15 mins before they closed. Two employees were at the location-- one in the office and one on the lot. I advised that I had a reservation and he looked at me and said, "we have no cars." And I stated I had been trying to call since 1pm this afternoon to confirm as I am not from the area. He repeated that they had no cars and "we have been in and out of the office all day" to which I said I had called over a dozen times since 1pm. I asked if he could process my refund. He told me since it was from Expedia, he could not, and I would have to contact customer service. Offered to let me rent a car the next day-- even though I needed the rental tonight. Staff was RUDE, UNPROFESSIONAL, and EXTREMELY UNHELPFUL. Called Enterprise and they were able to not only assist with a rental in a matter of minutes, they assured that they would be open and ready to provide a vehicle when we arrive. Will never rent from Hertz anywhere again. Checking in was nice and they even upgraded our car however when we asked if they had a toddler seat NO ONE told us we would have to pay more each day for the seat. Instead when we returned the car they slapped us with a $70 charge. I didn't even need to get one as my son is 7 and I could have bought one for $20! When you are traveling you are spending so much money as it is. No compensation, just rude people saying to bad it was on my contract. No where on the paper that I have says the cost. Rude, rude, rude. In this day and age reviews and recommendations are important and no customer satisfaction was given. Now that I'm reviewing no wonder they had low stars. A pretty good spot to do a car rental from NYC and cheap. It's right off the metro north train in north white plains about 500 feet walking distance. They have after hours drop. I rented a car for the weekend for 65$ as opposed to in the city it would have been 100$ a day. They have plenty of cars and all sizes. This place is about a 45 minute ride on metro north to grand central around 8$ one way very convenient. read more

While the car met expectations, and the check out guys were polite they neglected to inform us when we rented the car that there was a $70 charge for a booster seat. We would have refused that seat and bought one at target for half the price and donated it to charity when we left. At no time did they say anything similar to 'there is a $70 charge for this seat we are handing you.' They claim it was on our contract but the only piece of paper we were given was a rental slip that shows no such charge. They refused to reverse the charge at the end. I am very sad to have to write this review. But I needed to warn people. And I feel so strongly about it that I breathed new life back into my old Yelp account. My rental experience was actually delightful at this location. It's super easy to reach from the city (and then from the Metro North). The folks at the counter when renting and returning were delightful. And the price was great. So, what gives? Several days after returning my car, I got a fraud alert from my credit card company: a charge from American Transportation Solutions for just over $70. They declined the charge, but while I was dealing with AmEx on the phone, I googled this company. It seems that Hertz outsources its Plate Pass program to them and that charges belatedly come from it. Well, that's all well and good except for the fact that I DIDN'T HAVE A PASS IN MY CAR. I didn't want one (There were two tolls I knew i'd pass on my route, totaling less than $6.00 together. I still have the receipt for paying in cash for one. I think I spit gym out into the other). And I even checked and saw that the EZ Pass velcro behind the mirror held not EZ Pass. Again, I didn't want one, wasn't paying for one, and didn't have one. But on a consumer affairs website (the same one from which I learned what this company is), there were 193 other complaints, many just like mine from other Hertz locations. Shame on Hertz for ruining what was a great experience with fraud. I'm glad AmEx knows what the company is up to as well. read more

I'm shocked by all the negative reviews i see. I've rented here at least ten times in the past 5 years. I live in Manhattan where the prices are almost triple. Somebody wrote that it's 5 minutes from the train station? WHAT???? It's literally right ACROSS the street from the North White Plains Metro North station. Other people wrote reviews that apply to Hertz in general - but not applicable to this location. It's a small place - so if time is a concern you may want to arrive early if they're busy. But still never had to wait an excessive amount of time. I wish they had later hours - especially on Sunday - but again, great prices compared with the city. read more

What I thought it could be a bad experience with car rental, ended up being a bad customer service. I reserved to rent a compact car ( what shows online to be a Ford Focus) for three weeks. When I got at the establishment I was told there was no Focus, however they had a compact which there is no was it can be compared with the model above, a Chevy Spark. Or even better a Mazda 2!! I ended up getting one of those tiny cars but as didn't work for me, for being taller than the average person that fits in one of those, I came back to switch after two days and got the compact car they actually showed online. From my experience that was the only good point from the customer service which deserved the two stars I am giving it above. I got the car and right after the snow storm I realized the washer fluid was running low. I CAME BACK TO FILL IT UP! It got frozen so they gave me another car, the same model. I prepared myself and bought a washer fluid at the gas station and everything went well. With the car... The terms I verbally dictated was to return the car on Monday. What I didn't realize was that the contract showed to be returned by Sunday at 1pm. So, to increase the level of frustration I got charged an extra day, after the amount agreed at the first contact. I saw a transaction on my statement early in the Monday morning before returning the car and drove to the establishment. They showed me on the contract that I got an agreement for returning on Sunday and couldn't do anything about it. I didn't hear not even an apology from the agent nor from the manager on duty. Well, I thought after a three weeks of rent could give a hope to a rental car company to have a loyal customer. But it shows that they don't care about it. Whenever you rent with Hertz make sure the date on the contract and the car that you take. This is my second and last experience that I have with them. When I originally booked my reservation it was for $374.28. When I received my final receipt it was for $912.13. Pick up reservation was Windsor Locks, CT on 5/23/14. Drop off location was White Plains, NY on 5/31/14. I emailed 6/20/14 and never heard back from anyone. I was asking that someone take a look into this and refund me the difference immediately. There was an obvious mistake made there. A shame that Hertz is quick to bill you but not quick to respond to their customers when there are issues with reservations. read more

Worst place to rent a car!! The place was empty with no customers and they still took 30 minutes just to finally get the paperwork going. After that, they needed to fax a form and make make several calls for whatever reason adding another 30 min to the wait. It was just plain awful service - we ended up not renting anything at all because I couldn't fathom how returning the vehicle would be. I have rented a car from this location twice and have been disappointed both times. The last time we rented a car here was for Labor Day weekend. We picked up our Compact car which was actually a Ford Fiesta not a Ford Focus or similar as described on my reservation. This didn't worry us too much but is misleading. We returned the car on Monday early evening and were required to do an after hours drop off due to the office being shut (As was explained to us previously). However this requires you to park in a public parking space and feed the meter until 7am the following morning (20 hours max parking @ $1 per hour = a lot of quarters). After running all over town for quarters I returned to the car, removed our bags from the trunk, and ran the keys up to the return box while my wife waited by the car. After returning from the keys we noticed my very expensive Nikon DSLR camera still sitting on the back seat. We rang all the Hertz contact #'s we could find but after getting no response decided to return to NYC and call at 7am in the morning when the office opened. I called at 7:02am on Tuesday morning to inform Hetrz of the camera and the cars registration # & location. I was told by the branch manager Stanley that he had 80 cars to clear and did not have time to retrieve my camera! After ringing back several times that day told me he didn't check the car before it left for servicing and he did not have a camera handed in. it is terrible that he was unable to spend 5 minutes on his day locating the camera for a Hertz Gold member! After 3 days and 30-40 phone calls to Hertz white plains Stanley concluded that the camera was not found during servicing and that Hertz were unable to identify who transferred the car to the airport. After following up the the area manger she concluded that it appeared the camera had been stolen by a Hertz staff member but they were not able to track that person. Due to the waver signed in the rental agreement Hertz avoid all responsibility for such loses and therefore the are no consequences for such negligent staff behavior. I have a $500 reward out for the return of my camera but have not heard back from Hertz since. NEVER RENT FROM THE THIEVES AT HERTZ WHITE PLAINS. read more

IF I could leave 0 stars I would. Hertz as a corporation is awful, but the service at the white plains location and Westchester airport location is actually worse. My mother-in-law flew in from Portland Or and picked up a car at JFK... by the time she arrived in Irvington NY the front end was shimmying so bad the car was practically un-drivable. She called the 800# and was told to go to the Westchester Airport to pick up a new car. When she got there the surly counter person told her that it was impossible -that she should have called them directly and that the person on the phone did not know what they were talking about ... after much ado and finger pointing my mother-in-law managed to leave with a new car - because she had no other way out of there! The next day she was in the parking lot of Walgreens and the car would not shut off. You guessed it a Chevy with the ignition recall... totally jammed... Had to call a tow truck and was towed to this miserable location by the train station in White Plains where she received her 3rd car in as many days.... The rest of the trip was uneventful, except that the day before she was to leave she became very ill and unable to drive. My husband took the car to this location to drop it off - since it is where we got it... and was told that he had to bring it back to JFK. He explained the circumstances, that his mother was too ill to drive and that we had hired a car service to take her to the airport.. they said they did not care... He asked if he could pay for the "change" and was told it was $450... He went on to explain the numerous cars we had to go through and the bad experience we had - and was told too bad... Not only that but the nasty, surly counterwoman lied to him and told him he had to fill up the gas tank -- when we later found out that his mom had paid for the full tank option. We were then forced to drive down to JFK from White Plains to return the car... which ended up costing close to $700. Needless to say there will NEVER EVER be a circumstance where we or anyone we know will darken the doorway of any Hertz Rental Car Agency again...and I will be sure to tell everyone and anyone I know about how poorly an elderly woman and her family that was attempting to take care of her was treated by Hertz in White Plains and the Westchester County Airport. read more

We rented at this Hertz location (and nearby places managed out of this location) a number of times, and came to realize this place tries to trick you into paying extra whenever they get a chance. Avoid if you can. If you have to go there, be aware of these tricks: Once we noticed the prices for the full tank option and the pre-pay refueling option (I.e. they refuel for you if returned less than full tank) were switched on their counter, so the pre-pay option looked incredibly cheap at $3.5/gallon, while actual price was $9 something. They switched them back when questioned. Could be a mistake. But well, that should have been our early The last time we rented at their Scarsdale location which is managed by the white plains location as we later found out. The car given to us had been parked under a tree and had white paint (bird drops?) all over it. We were in a hurry and the other cars there looked crapy anyway, so we took the car, and later had to clean up the paint on the front window ourselves. Ok. So we returned the car the way it was, and the agent said everything was ok. We got our receipt next day, and guess what? We were charged $150 for "cleaning" fees! When contacted for this and some other issues during the rental(I'll save space here), the person in charge at the white plains location was completely in denial and lied to our face. Two months before the above incident we used their after-hour return service in another rental at white plains, which by itself was a nice feature. We parked the car where they told us to (and we confirmed twice the "right" place to park), and dropped the key off. Got the receipt a week later and no problem...Well, two months later a letter arrived and said we needed to pay for parking tickets plus hertz's "handling fee" of $30/ticket incurred at the night and next morning while the car was parked outside during that return. And btw the ticket fines were doubled from $25 to$50 b/c it was delayed for over a month. Remember hertz never informed us the existence of these tickets after return, so now we are responsible for the late fees? Plus $30/piece handling for late notice? When contacted the manager (a different person from incident 2, go figure) again found all types of excuses, and when proved wrong on all of them promised to "look into it" and call back. Of course that did not happen and they stopped answering our calls. Well, enough is enough and we kick ourselves for not heeding early warning signs. Oh btw, don't even try hertz's corporate customer service line. They "have to listen to the field office" ( so why do I need you?), and is only a waste of time. read more

They added additional service when I repeatedly mentioned that I do not want it and tried to convince me that due to my gold plus membership and my companies contract with them it is automatically added and cannot be taken out. When I called the Hertz billing department they mentioned it is optional! I had to again go back to their location and get it corrected and also I did not get any acknowledgment or apology of their mistake! I don't often rent cars - perhaps once a year or so - and I've now rented from this Hertz three times over the last three years. Most of the staff that has attended me at this outlet have been very friendly, and that includes the personnel who service the cars and receive them upon return. I don't know if this is typical with Hertz as a company, but I just felt I was dealing with nice people who liked their jobs, their customers and their coworkers. For my most recent rental, since the Jetta I had in mind had just been rented out by the guy ahead of us in line - and because it was snowing - I upgraded to an all-wheel drive mini-SUV, a Nissan Rogue. I'm not generally a fan of Nissan (nor Toyota - I wish they had more Hondas and Subarus), but this vehicle was fine, and we felt safer in an AWD car in those driving conditions. The agent upsold us on the purchase of a full tank of gas so that we could just drop the car on the way back with no need to refuel, thus saving time and hassle (but not money). In this case, we REALLY appreciated the saved time on the way back since we were thus able to catch an earlier train back to Manhattan, which ended up saving us an entire hour - no small thing when you're hustling back to the city after a long trip. So we didn't mind the fact we "donated" nearly a half-tank back to Hertz - in this case, the $20+ difference was well worth it. But the standout moment in the whole experience was when Mary (I believe I heard a coworker call her by name) darted into our train car just as the doors were about to close, and handed me my cellphone charger that I had left in the car in our haste to try to catch the train. How she found our train car just in the nick of time, I'll never know. But she did it with a big smile, and I'll be writing to Hertz just to let them know how far out of her way she went (there are a lot of stairs to go up and down after you cross the street to the train station), and how delightful this was. The actual renting experience was fine. However, after returning the car I realized I left my EZ Pass in it. I called the next morning and was told, "No problem, we'll hold it at the desk for you." When I got there, no EZ Pass. They never took out of the car and rented it to someone else with my EZ Pass in it. Charges started appearing on my pass. They promised to retrieve my pass when the car was returned. Again they did not and rented the car out again. More charges. I cancelled the EZ Pass but Hertz refuses to reimburse me the charges accrued when the rented the out to other people. read more

Eek Methinks not. This review is about Hertz. I've been a customer for around 20 years, and in the last few years they have treated me extremely badly. This is a company, filtering down from the top, that doesn't care. You are at the bad end of a business arrangement that suits them. The company is a billing machine, and defends any attempt to get actual promised prices, overcharging directly to your credit card. Booking representatives not wanting to try to explain the outrageous jump in prices in October 2017 lie to you about what the price is, whereupon you find out when it's too late. Employees are given absolutely no sense of ownership in creating solutions, they do their job - prepare cars, print contracts, read mileometers, and collect keys. Like zombies. I booked a car (this location White Plains) for $158 and was charged $458. Despite a complaint to the Better Business Bureau they hold on to their outrageous price, and to their lie. I only use this company because I have rental points, and a rental history, and under protest. The company is one of the worst examples of big corporate America greed, a don't care attitude, and running a business as a credit card billing machine. I have been a customer for 20 years, and have Gold Five Star with them. If this is the way they treat me, it must be horrible for those that only use them occasionally. I am a Gold car member and although this location is not featured as one,I get better service here than any other Gold Card location I have ever went to. The staff is excellent and since Stanley arrived service has moved from excellent to continuous perfection. Madge is a customer service superstar and should be recognized across the corporation. Hansel and the rest of the crew are efficient, pleasant and accommodating and make your trip to this location always a positive experience. I recently rented a car from this location. The people working at the counter and the man who brought me a car were both very nice and professional. The car itself, a Toyota Camry, was clean and in good shape. While driving in upstate NY, I experienced a flat tire. Roadside Assistance informed me that since I had taken the damage insurance, I could take the car to a local tire repair shop and replace the tire, which I did. They indicated that I would be reimbursed the cost when I returned the car. When I did return the car, the woman at the desk, and her supervisor, informed me that they had no authorization to reimburse me. The supervisor then said that I would be sent a check and they made a copy of the bill from Mavis Tire Repair. I am still waiting for my check. So Hertz gets a 1 star (0 stars if it were an option) for its handling of the situation. The proper procedures need to be in place so that people are not put out money that is owed to them. I am going to file a claim in small claims court for the cost of the repair plus the cost of a lost work day. Maybe that will cause Hertz to adjust how customers are treated in these types of situations. But the people working at this location were very professional and helpful. read more
