My husband waited on the line about 30 minutes and was confused when given a Toyota Camry but accepted it not realizing no I did not book a regular small car. So waited online again this time with me so I could explain. Not only was everyone behind the counter mostly just talking & having fun which hey that's wonderful but do that on a break not when there's a long line of people waiting. Sign even says wait to be called up. Yeah cuz there's 4 people behind the counter hanging out but only 1 actually working lol. Someone finally decided they'd accept a customer & up we went. No one here obviously has heard of a compact suv and told me I don't get the rental from the photo as if I was born yesterday. I explained I never go by the photo I go by the class of what I want, I'm not an idiot who thinks you book the exact car in photo. Usually we book a compact SUV with free upgrade to regular suv. They said yes I was upgraded economy to full size car. No economy SUV! They seemed to not understand a compact suv was not a regular compact car. Telling me there's no such thing as a compact suv as I'm like yes a Hyundai venue or similar as they're like you don't get the car from the photo. Arguing with these idiots will get you nowhere as they couldn't grasp the concept so I finally said just give us the suv & we'll argue after the rental with actual company. When we're back home not tired after a flight & been sitting in the airport for an hour. Not to mention all these poor people behind us waiting and a poor guy next to us arguing with them about something similar. I know nothing about cars but I know there's a small SUV & a small car in the world. They are not all in same class or same thing lol. Maybe this budget location shouldn't offer compact SUVs if no one behind counter even knows they exist or that it's an option. Out of 20 car rentals of same exact car class we never had this happen anywhere else. Guy next to us kept saying he'd never dealt with these kind of problems at any other budget so it seems to be a theme with them. Even googling comparable to a Hyundai vue would be a Kona, trax, kicks, or soul. An upgrade would be a Mazda or rav4 or something along those lines. Not a Camry lol. Guy next to us was happy he just wanted a Camry and heard we weren't taking it so he said I'll take theirs! Guy behind the counter was like unless you're jumping in the backseat of their car you're not getting it cuz it wasn't put back in system yet. Just snotty way to basically tell him he'd have to wait which he was totally fine doing as he explained. We were like common fellow soldiers in a war lol. You start making friends when everyone is stuck at counter forever arguing with these people. Anyway I'd never rent from budget in this location again and I suggest no one do either unless you want some kind of issue. Read the reviews. Hopefully there's no issues when we drop off the suv or any other issues. Fun start to our vacation.

When we asked for clarification, the manager refused to check or show any policy and spoke to us in a dismissive and confrontational way. The situation escalated to the point where we were threatened with security if we didn't leave, which was both embarrassing and unnecessary. April 7 we returned to the airport to rent from Alamo, not realizing it is part of the same company. This time we had a passport, but were still refused a rental. We were told they would not rent to us based on our interaction the previous day. Staff again refused to explain any policy or provide documentation when asked, and were dismissive throughout. At that point, it no longer appeared to be about requirements, but about how we were being treated. The overall experience felt unnecessarily hostile and personal. Two trips to the airport, time and money wasted, and no rental either day. I contacted corporate 5 to 6 times and was promised follow ups, but never received a single response. Very disappointing and unprofessional experience.

After picking up the rental vehicle, I started to notice a strong odor consistent with drugs inside the car. I was traveling with young children, which made this especially concerning from a health and safety standpoint. In addition, the vehicle's maintenance warning light came on indicating a potential mechanical issue. We did try to purchase fabric refresher and car deodorizer to settle the smell but it appeared, nothing helped. W brought these concerns to the attention of the on-site management from where we rented the car from and requested a different vehicle. We were told as long as there was availability trading this car in for another would not be an issue. We arrived at the airport where there was more than enough inventory. In spite of other vehicles were visibly available, management refused to assist or provide a replacement because of the holiday season. I was left with no reasonable alternative and felt completely disregarded as a customer, particularly given the safety implications for my children. We are also traveling for the holidays. This experience fell far below acceptable standards for customer service and vehicle safety. I expect rental vehicles to be clean, properly maintained, and safe--especially when families are involved. I am requesting a formal review of this incident, an explanation for why assistance was refused, and appropriate compensation for the inconvenience and distress caused. Thank you for
