I had rented a minivan from the Enterprise at Logan airport, long story short the van was recalled…read moreand nobody at Logan told me that my 6 week rental needed to be renewed after 4 weeks as that is he longest they can rent for. I ended up at the Falmouth Enterprise needing to A. Get a new vehicle (as the van had an active recall on it) B. "Renew" the rental for the remaining 2 weeks. The Falmouth location was controlled chaos with travelers coming and going to catch the next ferry and rent/return their vehicles. After waiting a few minutes and observing, I was worried that this was going to be a nightmare of an operation... I was gravely mistaken, Rebecca immediately jumped into action and started rectifying points A & B, all while answering the phone that was ringing off the hook, coordinating shuttle service for automata to/from the Island Queen & Woods Hole Ferry, taking car returns etc... she greeted every single person that walked through the door (a few even by first name!) As the owner of multiple business, I really hate the overuse of the "allstar/rockstar employee" moniker, but Rebecca truly exemplifies this title. It would take paragraphs to fully detail this experience.. so I'll leave it at this.. if you need a rental in Falmouth, go see Rebecca at Enterprise. I've rented hundreds of cars in the past few years and this was by far my best experience (especially as I was kind of "forced" to go there due to the recall AND the fact that nobody told me at Logan that I would need to renew after 4 weeks.. I only figured this out when I looked at my receipt after getting a recall email)

A solid option for Cape Cod area rentals, or in my case, taking a car off the Cape and then…read morereturning it a couple of days later. Their pick-up and drop-off service was efficient and well coordinated to accommodate island passengers such as myself. The ability for a weekend (Saturday) pick-up was key in my choosing to patronize their services for my needs on this trip. The rental car was spacious and fresh, though the satellite radio requiring an extra charge was a surprise (that I didn't participate in) - usually I go with another rental company that includes that option with the car. Though the location appears modest, it is an upgrade from their previous outlet closer to Falmouth Mall, and my return revealed several more cars waiting there than when I had departed, so they clearly maintain an active inventory and customer flow.

It was a newer car with about 6k mileage and was clean inside and out. It was an easy process, fill out paperwork at the counter and walk out a couple of hundred yards to the rental lot to get the car. I needed to extend the rental. It was handled quickly over the phone and they even changed it the lower weekly rate without my even asking. The agent was a very pleasant guy. After I dropped off the car I realized I had forgotten something at the place I had been staying. The agent had someone drive me round trip back to get my item at no extra charge. I of course tipped the driver. I would definitely rent from Windmill again.

Last year I spent the last day of my vacation driving around the VH lot and refreshing the change reservation page for hours before I finally got a boat. This year I tried to get our boats in February for August and they were already booked all day on Sunday. I rode the waitlist and inched toward our desired day of departure, and spent our whole vacation knowing when we'd be going home. It's crazy that you have to secure so early in the year, and even then nothing's promised, but once you get the hang of it, it's not so bad. The people are always really lovely and the chowder onboard is arguably better than Larsen's - I said what I said!

FYI: 12 ounce canned soda $4 onboard. Of course, this is basically the only way to get from Cape Cod to Martha's Vineyard so what else are we going to do? I'm not from here so I'm assuming that is the case. Folks around here can be pushy too. We didn't realize the space opened in front of us and someone just cut us off and pulled in.
