We booked a car four months ago for the solar eclipse. 30 minutes before we were supposed to pick up the car, they texted us to tell us that they gave our car to someone else and that we were screwed. They offered no assistance. They didn't automatically refund me and made me navigate a complex phone system to even get a refund. Horrible policy, UI, and customer service. I made a reservation (successfully) with my credit card for my boyfriend's name and got confirmation email weeks in advance of our Austin trip. When we arrive at the counter, the reception says the reservation is under my name because my credit card is used and my boyfriend has to be added as an additional driver with additional fee. We received NO reminder or warning whatsoever when we booked the reservation and they say we cannot change credit card because it was paid in advance (since when did "pay in advance" become something wrong?) The reception at the counter refuse to modify the reservation for us and insisted on charging almost $100 MORE (on top of the $300-400 we already paid) for additional driver, as if it was our fault that Hertz didn't give us warning in the booking page and even sent us successful confirmation email (under my boyfriends name) after. Very terrible experience. Terrible customer service. AVOID them. read more

RE: 6705 Hwy 290 W, Ste 603, Austin, TX, 78735 This is a complaint about the pick-up location service. I took a ride-hailing service to this office and arrived at 5:10 for a 5:30 pick up. The employee asked if I was renting from a 3rd party. (I was.) He said I would need to see proof of liability insurance. I have never had to do this and the information is nowhere in the IMPORTANT INFORMATION, under the Hertz logo, on my reservation. That says, "The driver will be required to present a valid driver's license and a valid credit card in his/her name at the counter for the refundable security deposit." My car was in the shop but I was fortunate to find someone who was still there and would look in my car for the Proof of Insurance, photograph it and send it to me. At the time I received that, it was 5:55. (The Hertz office closes at 6pm.) The employee processed the rental but the system would not take any credit card by chip or strip and kept returning back to the Hertz logo screen. I asked if he would enter the number physically in the computer. He said he could not do that. (I doubt this because there is always another way.) At 6:00pm, the employee was done for the day and I was dismissed from the office/storefront without a promise of anything and the need to pay for another ride to get home. I did not receive any type of contact from the employee OR the Branch Mgr the next day or anytime since then. Because of traffic and time of day, I spent 2.5 hours and $$ to get NOTHING FROM HERTZ, except a very bad taste in my mouth. I have tried to get this information to Hertz corporation but their website, which says you can submit information about service, said it was an invalid request and gave a toll-free number to call. The options there, were all related to contracts (vehicles actually received), not reservations, so I selected "0" and it told me that was invalid. I reserved a van at 10 a.m. on Monday to pick up Tuesday morning at 8 a.m. I had no problem reserving it and drove an hour the next morning to pick it up. The male employee at the desk was extremely rude and dismissive. They didn't have our rental van there, or anything to rent in it's place. He told me that "I didn't plan ahead and book the reservation 24 hours or more in advance" because of this, my reservation was not guaranteed. I was not warned on the website while reserving the van or sent any kind notice of this until 7:15, 45 minutes before my pick up time to which I didn't see because I was driving. Clearly things don't happen unexpectedly in Hurtz word. I asked him if he would change our reservation to pick up the van Wednesday morning. He told me he couldn't change anything in my account because I was on a "waiting list" until the van got there. I called customer service. In order to speak to someone in their service center, I had to pay 5% of my rental amount. I have never encountered such a terrible company that makes customer's pay to speak to them because their company is so incompetent. I suggest finding another rental company because this company is not worth the headache or your money. If they are willing to treat their customers like shit, they don't deserve your money! Update: I went to pick up the van the next day and they would not accept my debit card. This was not because there wasn't enough on it, but because my credit came back in the 300s. Surprise, the credit check you before you're able to rent anything. My credit score is no where near 300, which I proved with my credit karma app. Once again, this was not something that their website made known when I reserved the van. I will never use this company again. Not only do they make it near impossible to rent something, their system that runs the credit is inaccurate. No wonder all of the other car rental companies are sold out and Hurtz has available rentals, I should have taken that as a sign that they were a terrible company. read more

Same type of review as before: " have rented cars here many times. One thing to not is that if you have the time, rent a squeak toy to drive to the airport. It is cheaper than a taxi. Put in 1/2 gallon of gas and you will save some bucks. Just make sure to have the engine turned on when they read the gas in the car beforehand. It can be more accurate." However, now I mostly pick up friends at the airport and bring them here as there are not all those extra fees to pay. I needed wheels for my recent trip to Austin, TX and I decided to get it from Hertz. Hertz had been good to me over the years and I have nothing but respect for them. I decided to rent off airport this time around for my car rental, since it was cheaper to do so versus from the airport location at Austin-Bergstrom international airport (AUS). I was happy that I found a good deal from Priceline and booked that one right away. The good thing about Priceline is that they do not charge your credit card at the time of purchase, but you pay when you pick up the car. And so, I arrived at this Hertz location, which seemed like it was in a small strip mall. Didn't see the Hertz logo until I realized it wasn't the ice cream shop. Haha. Arrived here around 3pm after getting off the plane and a friend helping me to get here. This Hertz location was small and it felt like those FedEx Kinkos places where you can get your business needs done on a weekend. It was a small office and the two Hertz associates who were there was friendly and professional. Even one of them told me to set the google gps to avoid tolls, just so I didn't have to pay. Unfortunately for me, I forgotten a few times, but remembered the majority thereafter. This Hertz experience in Austin Texas has been pretty smooth transaction. The staff at Hertz was good and I returned the car after business hours, so I parked the car, locked it, and returned the key fob in their "express return" key drop in front of the Hertz office. I have had the car for 7 days. I purchased car rental insurance and road side assistance, since you never know what can happen out there. I ended up driving 1,000 miles during the course of my stay in Texas: going through the cities of Austin, San Antonio, Victoria, Houston, Fort Worth, and Dallas. The car I received was a very small SUV, smaller than a RAV4, so it was pretty cute. The car itself drove smoothly and had pretty good gas economy - $25 for a fill up. This Hertz rental car facility is located in a strip mall at 6705 Highway 290 W in Austin, Texas. Definitely off airport and it's about 15 miles away from there. They have a small selection of cars though. Not sure if they keep more of their fleet in a nearby lot, or have majority of the cars in the strip mall parking lot, when the parking is supposedly for customers for other merchants in the mall. My rental was in the parking lot a row from the Hertz office, so I didn't have to walk far at all. For the most part though, I had fun driving the car, even though the drives were long at times, but I made it to my destinations with a few rest / nap stops along the way. Driving does make me sleepy, so it was nice to have McDonald's along the way for bathroom and food stops. Lol I didn't have any problems with my rental vehicle, so that was a good thing. The service at the counter was fine. Since I didn't have service at the return process, it was nice to just drop off the key and be on my way. Just like returning library books after hours. It was simple and easy. I would recommend renting from Hertz because they do such a good job. The Hertz brand is awesome. Do price compare online to check out the best prices. Sometimes it's Hertz, sometimes it isn't. Get the best deal for you! For me this time, it was Hertz here in Austin Texas. 4.0 stars for the overall experience. 4.0 stars for the service and the vehicle itself. Scheduled for pick up at 8:30. They no showed no called. Called and was place on hold for 20 minutes. When they picked up they made excuses saying I was to call when I arrived. I said no, that is not what we said when I scheduled the pick up, they confirmed they would be on time. The women at the counter could not give a single damn about whether you get what you booked, and they keep their radio turned up to a level that makes me wonder if I'm at the club or in a business. I reserved a car with XM, which I didn't get, and they charged me for gas refill even though they said that they did not - second time that happened. I witnessed them letting a customer know that the SUV they'd reserved was not available, and they were indifferent to the customer's stress levels. I booked a reservation ahead of time so that I could be in and out. When I walked in and told him the name under the reservation and I guess there was some sort of confusion? He said he couldn't find it. I repeated myself, spelling the name, offering the confirmation number and magically he found it after arguing for 15 minutes that I made this reservation. Already irritated, he had a confrontational attitude saying 'is there a problem?' As a person in the service industry and knowing customer service that is not how you talk to someone. There was also an issue with a credit card for the payment. He offered no solutions and sent me on my way. Do not come here unless you're into getting verbally assaulted. Rented a car through a third party site. After paying a $40 Uber to get to my appointment I was told they had no inventory for me and no resolution was offered. I called Hertz customer service and their solution was to send me to the airport which is a $100 ride from my house. I have been using this location more and more. The guys who run the place are really nice. I just received a billing notice for my last rental that included a $95 fuel charge. I called Jacob at the Hertz in Oak Hill. He remembered me, the car, and that he did not charge me for fuel. He deduced it was a problem not in his end, that I should call billing, and if I needed any support, he would verify for me. I was on hold with billing for about 5 minutes and they straightened it out. So, now Jacob's store gets another star for the personalized assistance. read more

I prepaid for a vehicle and was told I couldn't p/u until noon. When I came by they were closing in 30 minutes. They decided I needed another card yet wouldn't stay open long enough for me to race home and get a new card. Since they aren't open the next day I was going to lose 2 days prepaid rental. This totally screwed me and my Christmas travel plans. They would not help me in anyway, didn't offer to help me find another car or give me an extra 15 minutes to get me card. I prepaid my car twice and when I came to pick it up, the location had already sold out of vehicles. Im not sure if the staff there is just incapable of handling the inventory or if the organization as a whole lacks the proprietary to effectively manage a business. Either way the customer service is bull crap. Haven't gotten a refund for my services because I have to fill out a gazillion forms and never get a decent human being that knows how to resolve an issue. I couldn't expect more though. Just.... wow, and not in a good way. I coordinated a "reserved SUV" through State Farm and the location off SIH 35 and was told Hertz would pick me up at my body shop when I dropped off my truck for repair. When called, Hertz said they only picked until 4pm. So I hitched a ride, only to find they had no cars at all when I got there. I hitched another ride home. I called my SF agent and the next morning I was called by John at the IH35 location and told he found a "car" at the Oak Hill location and Lyft would pick me up at work at 12:30. I coordinated my work schedule (medical facility) was ready at 12:30. I waited at the front of my building, called, left voicemails with both locations and finally got a call at 12:50 from a woman at the Oak Hill location, informing me all they had was a cargo van. While expressing my frustration with the lack of quality service I'd received, the woman said, "We'll see you when you get here," and hung up on me. They will never see me at that location or any other. read more

My rental and car experience have all been good and problem free. My problem is with the online reservation process and pickup. Each time I've gone to rent I have to endure the sales pitch of add ons. Why am I reserving online, hitting no to these question, but then being asked again. Complete waste of my time and it makes me want to be short. Secondly why am I reserving online then having to sit and wait for a vehicle to be clean. On September 30, 2016, I had to rent a car after I was in a car accident. The lady that hit my car has State Farm Insurance and they chose Hertz as the place for me to obtain a rental while my car is being repaired. Initially, all went well and I was happy with the service. After electing the optional insurance coverage provided by Hertz at a ridiculously exorbitant rate, I later found out that my own full coverage car insurance covered the rental. That wasn't the problem. After returning the following week to cancel the optional insurance coverage, I discover that I owe approximately $165.00 more than what was quoted. The sales associate, Gabrielle Rivera, told me on the day that I rented the car that Basic protection was $30.00 inclusive of taxes. After returning, she looks at my account on her computer and tells me it is not. She proceeds to offer a clearly unapologetic apology for misinforming me about the Basic insurance policy. She then tells me that I will have to talk to her manager on the following Monday as no manager works on the weekend. Really? What if there is a serious problem? That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. What business doesn't have an onsite manager every business day? In any event, now I'll have to take yet more time out of my already busy schedule to speak with the manager about this. Honestly, I have no expectation that she will fix the problem. If the sales associate is that badly misinformed, or more likely, flat out lying just to make a sale on insurance that she knows quite well isn't needed by the overwhelming majority of people, then my expectations remain dismally low for a resolution. I highly advise that anyone avoid this location and Hertz in general if their own sales associates don't even know the specifics of what they're selling. Go with Enterprise instead. The service is impeccably good and their cars are much nicer and cleaner. Without doubt, this is the worst customer service experience of my life and that's saying a lot as I am 55 years old and have rarely ever had any terrible customer service issues. Again, please heed my warning and avoid this location. You will thank me later for the grief I save you! Updated 10/31/16: After speaking with Ashley Kana, the branch manager, she informed me that she had taken remedial action with her sales associate and that the issue that I had would not happen again with future customers. Although I returned the rental car today, Ashley wasn't yet able to adjust the charges, which she graciously agreed to do, until the estimate from the body shop was submitted to State Farm, so that I wouldn't be charged for the additional rental days. Ashley is extremely courteous and friendly and took my complaint quite seriously and will adjust the charge to the amount verbally given to me by the sales associate. I could not be more impressed by her kind demeanor and willingness to make things right for me. She even drove my mother and me to the body shop to pick up my car, even though she didn't have to, because she's just that nice and helpful. Ashley provided outstanding customer service and will rectify the charges as soon as she can close the account. She was able to turn a miserable experience into an outstanding one. It's that willingness to listen to a customer and fix a problem, in addition to just being an overall pleasant person, that makes her an outstanding branch manager. I am adjusting my rating from a 1 to a 5 thanks to Ashley's outstanding customer service and I will now recommend that renting from this location will be a good experience. read more

Booked a "compact". No compacts on arrival. So the manager offered me an "upgrade" which smelled like someone smoked in it for a year. 2nd car was the same. 3rd option was a Kia with big stains on the drivers seat. No thanks. They had another option they tried to upsell me on but I wouldn't pay for it. Then when I said I would (bc I'd rather pay more than smell smoke) they said someone just called to reserve it. Then the manager started telling me that I was rude and that the cars didn't even smell like smoke. So I stepped outside and called Hertz customer service to see if they could mediate. They said "no, sorry, we can only file a complaint". So I went back inside and took card #2. When I got to my arrival city I called Hertz road side assistance and asked for a new car that was smoke free and they were happy to find me one. read more

I placed a order online for a 5 pm pickup through Hertz.com the day prior. Unfortunately when i request a 5 pm pickup I was unaware the location closes at 5 pm. Upon my arrival to my surprise the door is locked and when i look inside the three staff members bolt for the backdoor like cockroaches. Then i call customer service that sends me to Maxwell ford to pickup a similar model at the same price. When i arrive they advise they will not honor the price and since its after hours they will not be able to rent me a vehicle even though i arrived at 5:45 pm as agreed with customer service. Do not book through Hertz as they do not honor price, availability and completely lack customer service. There should be a zero star option. read more
