THE WORST!!! Booked a car at through AAA for pickup at Mialn Airport...Total from AAA $465.77. Great. When we get to Milan Hertz, they could not care less about our AAA reservation...new total $719. Don't like it. Too bad you don't get a car. Then we get a flat tire...there is no spare. They have to come tow it. 20-25 phone calls later. We can't get a replacement for two days. I contact Hertz via online chat once we get home...36 minutes with a live agent...they respond twice during that whole time only asking me to verify I'm me...then discontinue the chat AND SHUT DOWN LIVE CHAT!. You can't make this up. RENT FROM ANYONE BUT HERTZ or walk! It will be less stressful. read more

Overall a good experience was had. We needed a car for our drive to Lake Como and we chose this location as it was a block away from our apartment. The person at the counter who helped us was very helpful and was pleasant to work with. But I believe it helps to be prepared with everything you need available and ready - your rental confirmation, your passport and your international drivers license (obtained through AAA) if you do not hold an Italian driver's license. The garage is a block or two away and picking up and dropping off is a breeze. Make sure you check your car for any damages before driving off so you can alert the workers at the garage. We dropped off our car afterhours but just park it back in the same spot you picked it up from, drop your keys in an envelope to the key drop off box and you are good to go. We had a white Fiat 500 and it ran great. Despite my husband not having driven a stick shift (we couldn't locate an available automatic in all of Milan) in years he got the hang of it immediately and enjoyed driving it all the way to Como. Our experience driving in Milan was, let's just say interesting. The roads are a lot more complicated so if you make one wrong turn, be prepared to make one giant, frustrating expletive-filled circle that may set you back about 15 minutes of your journey's progress. We only had our iPhone's Google maps app and being the direction giver while my husband drove proved to be more difficult than we had anticipated. And we've navigated with ease in numerous other cities. Watch out for those drivers who "floor it" on turn abouts, truck drivers who drive like they are driving Fiat sized cars and dual lane straddlers who seem to have a hard time deciding which lane they want to be in and drive on the lane divider lines for an awful long time. Of course not everyone drives like that but we've witnessed a lot of the above with the drivers we've come across and being that impatient American driver, we've used the horn a few more times than we'd like to admit. It appears the local drivers tend to abide by their rules for the road including creating their own make-shift parking spaces on the sidewalk. Somehow we managed to get back safe and sound and returned the car unscathed. This meant no surprise charges when we checked our credit card transactions several days afterward. Added: A few weeks later, we were surprised a paper receipt arrived in the mail for us all the way from Milan to confirm the transaction. This was a nice touch. read more

We used this location to drop the vehicle off. All transactions went very smooth. The vehicle was clean and in great shape. In fact we were given a complementary upgrade during pick up in Verona. What makes me rave about my experience? My son lost his wallet with cash and cards somewhere in Milan. He wasn't even sure where exactly. So we considered it gone forever and tried to forget about it. Imagine my surprise when I got an email from Giuseppe 2 weeks later saying that they found a wallet and wanted to identify the owner. I rent from Hertz all the time, I am a Gold Plus member, and this was the worst place ever. The woman had to ask my name 3 times. Took forever in the office and noticed a sign next to the desk that said to wait comfortably in the office and my car would be brought to me. Not happening. We had to walk down the block to a 5 story parking garage. My son's car was in okay condition, but mine had damage all over. Both sides of the front were scraped, dent in the hood, dent in there rear door. All rims were gouged. I asked about the damage and the person checking me out said it was in the computer and not to worry about it. I noticed a French license plate and became suspicious. Sure enough, after demanding he look at the computer, he found none of the damage was there. After an hour of entering the damage, I left. I found that they are very lazy at this location. read more

I can't give 0 stars so it got 1. DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE!! Here's just a few reasons. 1. It's not at the Central Station. It's about a 1/4 mile walk, which isn't far unless your hauling a vacation's worth of luggage. 2. Wait time was well over an hour the day we were there. There's a few chairs, but most people have to stand. 3. We were ROBBED by thieves in the office. I was standing with my luggage right next to me. A man distracted me while someone else took our backpack containing a laptop, cash, credit cards, hearing aids and many other valuable personal items. How did Hertz personnel react? Very nonchalantly, like this wasn't the first time. They told us to walk back to the train station to file a police report (took over 2 hours on our first day of a once in a lifetime vacations.) Then we walked back to Hertz with our police report and were told that they couldn't check security cameras due to privacy issues. Manager tried to smooth things over by giving us Hertz Connect (which we didn't need) free of charge. At least he was pleasant. 4.The car we got (we reserved a Fiat 500L or similar) was a beat up Ford that had dents on every part of the car. Trim on door was falling off. I complained (loudly by this point) and they found another Hertz office with a car. We had to drive the beat up Ford across Milan to pick up another car. Car was fine. So, about 6 hours after arriving at Hertz we got on the road. 5. When we returned to the states things got even worse. I called Hertz corporate, expecting apologies and investigation, and my first three contacts replied that the theft wasn't Hertz's responsibility. First "customer service" agent was rude and refused to transfer me to a supervisor. Second was less rude but same response. Finally after an email to CEO of Hertz I got a call. Woman apologized and refunded the cost of the rental, but we are still on the hook for several thousand dollars worth of items that were stolen. My spouse and I are both gold members, but we will never rent a car from Hertz again. read more

I rented a car from this Hertz location in December for my Honeymoon. This is a review of my experience with this specific location and also Hertz in general afterwards. 1) Driving back to Milan from Lake Garda, I call Hertz and let them know I'm running 2 hours behind schedule, can they not charge me an extra full day rental fee? They are not willing to work with me and charge me an extra ~$90 USD. Alright, my bad. I'll accept the charge as I was running behind schedule. I personally would be more accommodating but it's their policy. 2) The rental was a diesel and requires AdBlue additive. About halfway through my trip, running low so I have to refill it for ~$20 USD. Not typically a responsibility of the renter as I understand. Upon returning, Hertz says I need to take my receipt to the office down the road for a refund. I have a train to catch and not much time for an extra stop, I'll eat the $20. 3) About a month and a half after my return, I get a notification from Hertz that while the rental was in my possession, a traffic violation was committed. Ack! They have to send my information to the Italian authorities and will charge me a "reasonable" administration fee. My credit card is charged $35 USD by Hertz. I certainly would not consider this a reasonable fee but if I did commit a violation, my bad. One month later - a second $35 admin fee charged to my card from Hertz...!?!? At this point I was fed up. I contacted Hertz customer service to inquire further and am told that each time the authorities ask them for information, they will charge this $35 fee! After many emails from many different people explaining to me how this is their policy and it can take up to 1 year to actually hear from the Italian authorities, I have to threaten to post negative reviews about my experience online, threaten that I will never rent from Hertz again, and also that I will never recommend Hertz again, just to get them to give me a refund for one of the admin charges. All of this time all I was asking for was a refund of ONE of the admin charges. Then, on 3/27 my credit card is charged AGAIN by Hertz for $35. I email again asking for it to be refunded and am given the same type of answer - policy, takes time to hear from authorities, no detail on what they know about the violation I committed, etc... I have yet to hear anything from the Italian authorities about the violation. Needless to say, I will never be renting from Hertz again and I'd strongly suggest that you do not either. Apologies for the long review but I felt it would be most helpful to tell the whole story. read more
