I ordered a full size car and was told it would be a Nissan Maxima, but it was an Altima instead. Not wanting to argue on my vacation, I took it anyway. The car was dirty inside and out, and while driving my passengers started yelling as cock roaches started walking around everywhere. There were dozens of roaches walking all over the car! read more

I had a bad/good experience recently with Hertz at the Maui airport. It started out good. The line was short, the service good, and the car fine. But, then the bad. After several days, one morning the "low tire pressure " light went on. Since I was driving back to Kahului, I took the car back to Hertz. The good. They were helpful, and thought it was probably just a sensor problem. They quickly gave me another car. The bad. I drove the new car to Who,e Foods to buy some things. The key would not lock the car. And when I tried to start the car, the key did not function well. Bad news. Back to Hertz. Good news. The Hertz staff were very apologetic and upgraded me to a nicer car. Bottom line: the Hertz people were very nice and helpful. But, the cars did not seem to be well maintained. read more

Shuttle to car, but you need to wait in a long line because the front desk staff is not enough (and the kiosk often doesn't work) The car is new and in high quality, it's easy to return the car, no hidden fees, also shuttle to airport! It's a good choice! read more

Friendly customer service from the folks at the counter to the lady on the phone system, right up to the point they Gouge you for more fees. I had a rate of $23.95 with Hotwire, already paid for. The agent had me choose my car, she said their was a Dodge Charger available, so I accepted. As she detailed the charges, found out I was getting charged another $30 a day on top of what I already paid. I said no, she then said how about $26 day, I assumed this was from $23.95 or only a few dollars more. I was charged $26 a day on top of my Hotwire bill, very deceiving, and they'll do it with a smile...watch out. read more

Gold is nice but more often than not I get cars that aren't 100% clean, wrong car and exit lines are very long

Hertz makes it so easy with pick up and drop off. Plus the car was almost new, and in great condition. We got way more than we had planned on. I don't think I will ever rent with another company again. read more

As a gold member, I am little disappointed with the service.. They gave me a car that was dirty not washed and has issues with breaking (screaming noise when I apply the break). I had to spend half a day to get an exchange, driving back to the rental place. To my bad luck, I also lost my sun glass in the old the car and they were not successful to locate it :(. The car was more than an year old and had 30K+ miles on it .. The service team didn't acknowledge the issues but offered a replacement same car but 2016 model. Didn't bother to honor for the inconveniences caused.. Poor service!!! read more

This was one of the easiest rental car companies that I've ever used before. Our company needed 6 different rentals (I picked up and dropped of most of them). From the girls at the front desk to the folks that checked us in and out of our vehicles, to the folks at the gate to leave, everyone was full of aloha and we could tell that they loved their jobs. Tiffanie, was working the front desk. She had a great smile and was so helpful. Also, after I mindlessly forgot a small but expensive piece of equipment in one of the rentals, I called them and spoke w Rebecca, who was awesome and found it for me right away :)))) Then lastly, when I returned the last rental, Paula was there to check the car in. She was such a sweet woman. Every employee we encountered was above and beyond fabulous!! We'll definitely be back :-D read more

Honeylette at Maui Gold desk was fabulous. She recognized my husband by name as a frequent customer to their station and helped with a nice upgrade. We were in and out in a matter of a few minutes read more

Actually purchased the vehicle through the Rent-to-Buy program. Easy to do and the personnel at Hertz was courteous and helpful.

Great service, car was clean, gas tank was full, courteous staff. Over all it was a breeze!

As a gold member, I did not get I already paid for. In fact, we got downgrade. And as other people mentioned here, 15 mins line waiting time is minimum. Update: car broken in the middle of day. Got towed, day trip ruined. Hertz gave us the exactly same type of car. No upgrade, no sorry, nothing. read more

Use another car rental company in Maui, I asked for an upgrade the person I dealt with couldn't understand what I was saying.

First time in Maui and was dreading the car rental process based on what I was reading on Yelp, not only Hertz but others as well. However, my rental experience could not have gone smoother. I have Presidents Circle status so I reserved a car through Autoslash, then called Hertz to have the reservation changed to a Hertz confirmation number. That way I was able to utilize my PC status to get my name on the board upon arrival. Once we got our bags at Kahului, we walked over to the Hertz shuttle stop and a shuttle pulled up before we even stopped walking. The driver was courteous and loaded our bags. Shuttle was nice and air conditioned and only about half full around 2pm on a Thursday. When we got to the rental lot, my name was on the board so I walked directly to my car and got rolling out the lot. Did not see how many folks were in line at the counter. Check out at the booth was smooth and pleasant, and they gave us some bottled water. I was on the road about 10 minutes after picking up luggage, including the shuttle ride time. Easiest rental experience I've had. Plus the standard SUV we got was a beast Nissan Armada with a third row. $332 for a one week rental in the summer. Not bad! My only complaint was that the car was not freshly washed, although the interior was clean. read more

Hertz in Maui at Kahului Airport was great. They were professional, helpful and friendly. I reserved the van online and during pickup they took the time to explain everything. The attendant also took the time to recommend a good place to eat since we were hungry after the long trip. The Hertz bus picked us up at their stop at the airport and took my family and I to the Hertz location. Very convenient, and the driver was extremely helpful with loading our luggage. When I returned the car after our week in Maui the attendant was ready to inspect and made sure we didn't leave anything in the van. The bus took us to where our airline was, again with the same professionalism and helpfulness. The only thing I didn't like was driving the van, it was huge and cumbersome at times BUT it was a necessary rental since we had a big group vacationing haha... read more

Not a great experience. While the agent was very nice, only one out of thirteen terminals was covered for general rentals. It took 45 minutes to reach her, then another 20 minutes to have the car ready. Unfortunately we left a coat in the rental area and eight calls to the local Hertz number went unanswered by a human or even the chance to leave a message. read more

If my last review was worth 0 stars, then this one should bring it down to negative stars. After adjusting the seats and whatnot in our rental car, we realized there was a lot of trash and they never bothered to clean it out. There were crumpled shopping bags under the passenger seat and a bag of half eaten snacks in the center console! The date and time were never adjusted on the display either. And to think, this was a brand new car with only 100 miles on it! It should have been spotless! read more

I rented may 3 (prepaid voucher). I've been to Maui many times and never used hertz (always more expensive) but this time price was right. How much is time worth? 3 lines, 10 counters, 4 utilized by Hertz staff. Of 4 working counters only 1 clerk for 25 general reservations customers standing in line. One hour later I signed rental contract. Home free? No! Another 15 minute wait outside for car to be driven up and no, not a fancy unusual car and not the Toyota RAV4 advertised. Just a simple Mazda. There was no aloha spirit here. Just excuses "a few people called in sick". "Other rental companies have long waits too". Now that's not true! I have never waited that long in Maui at other counters. On positive side, car was clean and new. The drop off was simple though they wouldn't provide a receipt unless I was once again willing to go inside and wait in line (no thank you). Emailed me a receipt 24 hours later and thankfully it was correct. Hertz is NOT the way to go yelpers. Try National. They are excellent!! read more

I did a prepaid rental on hotwire before reading all the reviews hoping and actually praying that I wouldn't have the same negative experiences as some of these customers. We were welcomed with a lei and customer service was very good to us! We arrived early morning on Wednesday and were first in line and we weren't even a gold member. Thanks hertz! read more

We use Hertz exclusively when we travel and the Maui (OGG) Airport location had the most friendly and accomodating staff we have ever encountered. They helped us work out a different convertible when the one we rented wasn't what we expected and went above and beyond to make sure we were satisfied with our rental! read more

spent 45 minutes waiting in a big line. Once it's my turn, I was told thatI have to wait again because the car has to be cleaned. My worst experience ever!! read more

Hertz was absolutely perfect service from start to finish and I would highly recommend this company. No waiting, new car with only 1000 miles clocked,, easy drop off. True Aloha Spirit was experienced through all the kind people that worked here. Thank you so much. read more

Have been sitting at Hertz near Maui Airport for 45 minutes. Line not moving. Unless you are with Pleasant Holidays, forget it. Line of people out the door. No shortage of drivers bringing customers in from airport but once they unload, they have to queue up and wait. Customers getting angry. One person to help the poor folks that reserved cars outside of Pleasant Holidays. They direct you to three kiosks but sadly only one works and not very well. Not the way to start a vacation, that's for sure. read more

Bad experience in renting a car. We had reserved a full size car for the week. Arriving at the Hertz location, there was a (small) line, so we headed to the video monitor and immediately connected with an agent in Arizona. Since there were four of us, she said "let me see if there's something available that would give you some more room." I didn't have a concern about room in a full size sedan, but said, "sure". She never mentioned any increase in price. She miraculously found an SUV, and said "would that be ok"? Again never mentioning price -- I assumed this was a complimentary upgrade which I've had before. I was quickly brought to an accept/don't accept screen. I almost accepted, but thought I'd verify the price.... she had changed our $460 weekly rental into over $1200! Never a word. I said that was unacceptable, and she came up with something else that was "only" $40 dollars more. Silly me... I thought $40 for the week? Nope... per day... another deception. The Ford Fusion we came away with was clean and worked well, and the return experience was also good, but there is no excuse for such deceptive upselling. read more

This place is a joke. We had a reservation way in advance and when we showed up there was no car. First the line was horrible so we were standing out in the heat for forever. Then they wanted us to wait for who knows how long until they actually had a car for us. After all of this we just left and went to a different rental car place which helped us out so much more. I will never be renting a car from hertz again read more

We rented from Hertz in February, and the Nissan we were given had squeaky brakes and a check engine light came on. We took it back expecting a lengthy process to get a new car. Rosie was amazing! She was honestly concerned about the inconvenience we faced and gave us a beautiful upgrade to make up for it. The issue was taken care of, and we were on our way in under 10 minutes! Thanks Rosie! read more

I am updating my review from 4 to 5 stars based on my most recent experience. Everything was perfect! Booked the car online through Hertz website using a AAA rate. Signed up for txt alerts. Once landed I turned on my phone and was greeted with a txt informing me of the make and model of car and what stall it was parked. Shuttle arrived in a few minutes with a friendly driver. Easily found the car on the lot - it was a new, clean Chevy Sonic and it ran well. Good MPG! Enjoyed driving this little gem and the return to the friendly folks at Hertz took all of 5 minutes. Great job everyone! read more

We arrived on Maui, headed to the car rental area, a Hertz van picked us up & took us to the Hertz rental office. The worst car rental experience that I have ever had. It took and hour to get through the line as tried to up-sell every customer. This is the only rental company that I have ever seen that charges extra ($13 per day) to have my wife as a second driver. read more

At one time Hertz was reliable, but the cars we rented were in poor condition. The battery was dead the first day with the first. The second had to be returned. Fortunately the third made it through the two weeks, but I won't chance going through Hertz again at this location read more

The Volkswagen CC, a Premium car was great car, it was clean and ready to go. The CC was very nice car, I was actually thinking owning one. I am Gold Rewards Member so my car was already assigned to me in parking stall. I found the stall number loaded my luggage off to enjoy the sun and beaches. I was shocked the number of ignorant people waiting in line to rent a car. The smart renter joins Gold Rewards for free before making the reservation then logs in using Gold Rewards to make the reservation and skip the lines people vacation is too short to waiting in line! The only room for improvement was shuttle bus frequency. I had to wait 5 minutes or so for bus to arrive. read more

Gold Club Member. Travelled half around the world (from Germany to Hawaii). Waited for 20 minutes. Got the wrong car. Complained after waiting for another 15 minutes. Only answer: "Oh sorry. Something went wrong." So I asked for an upgrade I don't have to pay for. Answer: "No." The customers next to me (no Gold Card) got an upgrade from a 4 door to a nice Mustang convertible - cause of the sunny weather. Last rental with Hertz. I switch to Alamo. Better price and same service. Now (after the Alamo rental): Go to Alamo!!! Better price and better service. Rented a Chevy Tahoe but they couldn't find the keys. So I got an upgrade for a Suburban. Greets from Germany! read more

The clerk was very helpful in finding a car that I preferred. I made a reservation for a mid-size and was given the option between two cars. I'm glad I tried the Mazda. It was new with a push button ignition, but the back window was a little hard to see out of. The car return was a breeze. A gal met us as soon as we drove up. She was so fast and efficient getting us our large suitcases out of the trunk, that I may have left something in the back seat. I would not use the Kiosk. I started there, thinking it would be faster, but the lady said the only car available was a van! My daughter and I couldn't imagine driving around Maui in a van. I will use Hertz again, because they are fast and friendly. They also have a discount for 50 and older (paid $101.00 for 5 days)! read more

Great experience renting here. I put off making my reservation until the night before we arrived, and when I got there, I was told that I had reserved at the wrong location. My mistake, but Tiffanie at the desk was able to help me get a car right away that not only met my needs, but was a few hundred dollars cheaper than my original reservation. Even better, even though I am under 25, my membership with AAA saved me from the young driver fee. Tiffanie was great, and I will probably rent from here next time that I'm on Maui. read more

Check out process is extremely slow. No one wants to spend their Maui vacation in your parking lot...get it together please.

Don't take a chance and rent from one of the many other car rental services. Not only was the customer service awful, but the manager was actually YELLING at me. I went over to one of the other companies and in fifteen minutes I was on my way, the service was pleasant and honest. Be forewarned! read more
