In reading with all the negative complaints since 2014, it appears that Hertz does not care about customer service domestically and abroad. My wife planned a trip Italy early 2019. We decided to rent from Hertz, once in Florence. We too, waited for two hours after taking a number. Once we were called we could only rent a stick shift, well ok i can drive stick. It only meant more work for me on the road. One thing we really counted on was the GPS we rented from Hertz since we were going from Florence to Tuscany and to Pisa then back to Florence in one day. The first GPS given to us would never connect up and then she gave a second GPS which would hold a charge. We then half way through our trip the GPS died. So we winged it and forged ahead with our plans. Finally, we made our way back to Florence late that night to drop off the rental car. As we got into Florence at 11pm in the dark, we discovered there are not gas station open with am attendants to fill up the rental let alone to ask for directions to where we needed to go. So we had to skip the fueling and find our way to the rental drop off. This is where the nightmare started. I of course had to guess where to go without Hertz's GPS because my wife had concentrate on holding her bladder back. Nothing is open at this time of night to even assist us. Beware to you all trying this on your own. Two hours later from driving around Florence with one way streets and endless streets mazes we found our way to the rental drop off. I actually thought we had to sleep in the car and use the bushes to relieve ourselves for the night and wait for daylight.
Well, the next day we tried calling Hertz rental in Florence at least ten times and no one picked up the phone to answer of complaints. We had to move on with our trip.
Here's the kicker, we called Hertz when we got back to the states after finding out our $225 day rental. We had to call three times to get to talk to them after the promps and got hung up once. My dear wife told the Hertz custmer service agent located in the Caribbean of our nightmare. The person could only come with a $50 dollar credit. A multi million company and they could only come up with fifty bucks. I work at Lowe's and we would have comp the whole rental and gave you a two rental toward a future rental. Do not rent from Hertz if can, they even disrespect their gold members. read more
