Never again! Our windshield wiper flew off on a major rainstorm. The metal piece that holds the wiper actually pulled up and smacked down on the windshield. The rain was so thick, we could not see a thing, and with traffic behind us on the highway, we had to find a way to safely pull over. The next day, upon return, I immediately notified the staff, who were actually lovely, and assured me this wasn't my fault. It was obviously faulty equipment. Several claims appeals and EUR800 later, Hertz claims this was my fault. I should have known about this during the pre-inspection. Apparently, you should never trust that Hertz has competent staff to install their equipment. We will never use Hertz again, for pleasure or for our business! read more

The deposit did not come back to the account, and after the phone call and sending an email to the company, they told us that the deposit would not be returned because after 1.5 months they found a scratch. It seems like they have the location at the actual airport merely to direct people to the shuttle and their main office - which is located right outside the airport environs. Surely better signage could do this job more quickly and you aren't stuck waiting for ages in line! Also wow! The lady at the counter who checked us out has to be among one of the rudest people ever! Absolutely terrible! I would avoid unless you like paying nearly double the quoted price. Traveling through the UK and Ireland on one trip, we booked everything weeks ahead of time to lock in the proper rates and vehicle. Started in London where we picked up the car and had no issues whatsoever, everything was as it was expected to be and price matched the original quote. The Ireland (Dublin Airport pickup/dropoff) where and entirely different story. When I booked the rental through Hertz online I was quoted a price that was MUCH lower than the final receipt, nearly half. I did not return the car damaged and with my rate had unlimited kilometers, so I simply do not understand why I got charged nearly double for the final bill. When I booked it originally it was quoted at 318.27 Euros, however the final receipt shows a charge of 597.39 Euros. Why is the charge nearly double the quoted amount when the car was not damaged and was returned on time? I rented a car in London and drove to Cardiff then Edinburgh the week before, and had the car for 5 days as well and was charged the correct amount (254 pounds which is also about half of what I was just charged for this trip). I have rented with Hertz for years and generally praise the service as I have never had an issue until now. I called Hertz customer service to help and they opened a ticket, after some back and forth they reached out to this Dublin office directly to investigate the issue. Basically put, the Hertz at the Dublin Airport is a franchise location, which apparently means they can do whatever they want while fooling people into thinking they are dealing with the Hertz they generally know and respect but are really dealing with a 3rd party that doesnt have to (or apparently want to) operate under a fair and customer friendly model. Shame on you Hertz for allowing this to go on, you're letting they drag your name through the dirt all the while appearing to do basically nothing about it. read more

Overpriced!!! The worst experience I had with Hertz in Dublin Ireland. We booked a 6day car rental reservation with a 3rd party, which was fully prepaid in the amount of 237.40 euros. When we got to the Hertz desk to purchase the SDW insurance, plus a GPS (10euros per day) and inclusive hold for gas. Hertz tried to charge us 368.00 euros which converts to $463.50, plus we've already paid for the rental separately through the 3rd party. This ruin our first day here in Ireland, since our plan was to drive up through the coast with the car rental. So we decided to book with a different car rental company Europcar. Europcar charged us 297.00 euros including insurance, gps & a hold for gas; 301.10 euros less than Hertz. Never again Hertz Ireland, you are a rip off! read more

Do not rent with them!!! They are saying we scratched the middle of the passenger door when I know for certain that I did not make contact with anything our entire trip. We made reservations with Hertz at least 3 months early for a full size car for a set price. When we went to pick it up they didn't have what we reserved and offered to upgrade us for an additional 80 euros. We had the same thing happen in Scotland however Hertz there upgraded us free since we had previous reservations. We asked for the same courtesy of which they refused. They know that if you go else where at the last minute then your options and prices are limited. Such practice should be illegal. By far the worst rental experience over decades of renting. Booked and pre-paid for a new shape Renault Megane. Check-in girl at Dublin airport was very unhelpful and said the megane was not available so gave me the equivalent, a Dasia would you believe. When it was obvious they had me over a barrel as I was driving straight to a funeral I decided to take up the matter when I returned the car. The Dasia had warning lights as soon as I left and writhing a matter of hours broke down. When the car was replaced they did so with yet another Dasia, also with engine warning lights lit. The manager at the airport told me to right to their head office, which I did and have heard nothing. I also learnt from their staff that the `Dasia's always have problems and they actually don't have Meganes at Dublin airport anyway. I bought that add-on and when I returned the car, there was a scratch in one of the alloys that I didn't make (didn't notice that when I picked up the car). I told them how long I wanted the car for. They gave me a quote for a 5 day hire rather than the 8 days I was booking for. Being dyslexic it took for someone else to notice that it was wrong I called them TWICE (second time to confirm that they extended my hire to find that they didn't). "No problem sir that's all sorted for you" they said. Saw a significantly higher charge (about €500 instead of the €300 I was expecting) even accounting for the extra days. Natarully I queried it. The extension was at a different rate they told me, something which they made absalutely no effort to mention when I phoned to correct the rental times. Recently picked up a rental car from Hertz at the Dublin airport. We had a reservation for an automatic car. It took 2 hours from the time we got to the desk to talk to a representative to the time we were given the keys to the car. If a customer has a reservation, the car should be available at the time the reservation was for. I would recommend arriving at this location early and planning on waiting a while. There is a second location in Dublin to rent a vehicle, but I was told by my travel agent that their prices are higher. The taxi ride from our hotel to the airport was less than 30 euros, so it is up to you to decide if you time is more precious than your money. To be fair, if we rented a manual car, we probably could have been out of there after a 30 minute wait since manual cars are most common. read more

When I received the actual bill, there were a number of "miscellaneous" charges on the bill for a significant amount extra. I never agreed to any of these charges. Spent several hours on the phone with Hertz customer service to have them removed. This place is the pits. Total bastards. They are not honest. At least I got the super cover, which, after reading some of the horror stories on here, I'm glad I did. Driving around Ireland is a crap shoot, and I knew I didn't want any issues. We'll, at least I didn't think so. After reading our receipt, I discovered that their fee for super cover was over 300 Euros more than we were quoted in our confirmation email. Also, they never refunded our deposit for refueling, which was another 100 Euros. When you add it up, the total overcharged was $520 when you include tax. Needless to say, I've blocked this company from any further charges, and I've opened a dispute with Amex. Thank God for Amex. At least someone is looking out for me. I will never deal with Hertz Ireland. They cannot be trusted. They are shysters. Please avoid these people. If the poor couple's story, who got ran into, isn't enough to scare you away, mine should. Use any other rental service. The guy at the front desk lied to me about what I had reserved to presure an upgrade (travel agent had done the original booking). The car was excessively large and on narrow Irish roads the opposite of what you want. Than my card was charged more than $50 more than agreed to becauae they put it in dollars rather than Euros like I asked and charged a 'convience fee' for doing so. In March 2018 I rented a car at Cork airport, having booked in advance. I am a member of Hertz Gold Club and I never take the extra insurance. In Cork they informed me if I did not take the extra insurance I would be charged an extra €10 per day, for NOT taking it. That amounted to €190 in extra charges which were stipulated nowhere in ANY documentation other than a photocopied form they produced from behind their own counter. Held hostage by the need for a car I wound up paying it. The original agreed to price was about $1000.00 that my wife prepaid. Hertz said I should upgrade to a larger vehicle ..that wasn't. They then went on to say it was a slight upgrade in price. Beware the supplemental liability waiver !!!! This is almost like going back in time 40-50 years when car rental companies tacked on all kinds of hidden charges. Guess the memo that the practice is frowned upon was misread by the team at Hertz Dublin Airport. As a gold whatever member, my vehicle was all set to go when I arrived and all paperwork automagically filled out by Hertz. But, since I was declining the (extremely expensive) insurance options from Hertz - since AMEX is once again covering it, I was required to sign a note saying that I knew that in the event of anything happening, if AMEX didn't pay for anything, I was completely liable (up to and beyond replacement costs of the vehicle). This includes stuff like compensating Hertz for loss of use of the vehicle while it was being repaired, costs of attorneys to hound Amex or me (as appropriate) etc. etc. Fair enough - signed it and off we go. On return, however, Hertz tacked on a supplemental liability waiver. Since I had declined insurance by virtue of the promise that AMEX would pay if needed, Hertz decided there needed to be a charge for not paying for insurance. Upon inquiry this was for precisely what I was required to promise I would be liable for (such as loss of use of vehicle while being repaired, cost of attorneys etc). Yes - I was being charged a daily non-insurance fee for precisely what I'd signed a note saying I would take responsibility for. Unbelievable. When I inquired of customer service whence this sneak fee, I was told that I had acknowledged this when picking up vehicle (wrong x 2, Hertz automatically filled out the paperwork and I signed something saying 180 degrees the opposite). Furthermore, since it had been "properly charged", it could not be reversed. Nice try Hertz. And bye, bye read more

HOLY CRAP, NO!! GO ELSEWHERE!! I have rented vehicles on 6 continents and over 100 countries and this was by far the worst experience I have ever had!! Reserved and booked the rental car at the Dublin airport through Travelocity with zero issues. I DID elect to purchase the insurance through Travelocity and go the confirmation so I was not ready for what was in store for me when my wife and I arrived. Stopped at the counter in arrivals and the man looked us up and told us to take the bus to the building, no problems. Arrived at the main building and was kindly greeted at the counter and the employee located our reservation along with a second one (duplicate, but different rates). This immediately made me wonder if this was going to be a bait-and-switch (turned out it was). I had the reservation printed out from Travelocity and gave it to the man and he said this reservation was no good and had to use the other one (which was more money and did not have insurance, through them). I said that was not going to happen and this was already in their system, it was confirmed and will be honored. He said they have "problems" when bookings come through third-party companies. The rate was only a Euro more so, whatever! After traveling from Seattle DIRECT London, 7 hour layover, then to Dublin I was already ticked-off at the run-around given and I was ready to get the car and go to the apartment. I said to my wife we will talk to Travelocity and try to get refunded later. What came next was RIDICULOUS: I DID elect to use Hertz insurance and come to fins out you have to have a 5,000 Euro HOLD available on a credit card! NEVER have I ever had this happen with over 15 different rental car companies around the globe!! I repeated to the employee that this was WHY we are electing their insurance, so we would only have a deductible hold on the card and not a portion of a collision repair. He continued to tell me it would be 7,500 Euro hold if we declined the insurance. ABSURD!!!!!! I am an average person, MOST people DO NOT have 5,000 Euros just "sitting around" on a credit card for a hold. I told him that this would make it almost impossible for the majority of people to be able to rent a car. He shrugged his shoulders!!! I confirmed that this 5,000 Euro hold would be released once the car is returned. He said yes. I just said to myself "F-it". He ran my card and the hold was placed. He them placed a GPS pouch on the counter and said "here is the GPS". I said I did not need it, but he assured me it was included in the weekly rate. I had no use for it since my phone worked fine so I just took it because he told me my signature was that it was for accountability (BULLS*IT!). Come to see it was 60 Euros and the cable did not even plug in correctly!! We were charged over 200 Euros for the insurance on a 52.19 Euro rental!!! Travelocity was $7 (USD) a day for FULL, zero-deductible insurance coverage and did not place a hold on my card. NEVER, EVER, EVER, will I use Hertz again! This was my first time and last time. Yes, the hold was released a week later after the rental car was returned. Hertz has NOT returned my message that I sent to their customer service and I have spread the word to others. Reading other's experience with this location, I wonder how they have not had corporate intervene! I have substantiating documentation for Travelocity and Hertz to back my claims. I damaged my rental car on a recent trip. No structural or mechanical damage, but a significant scratch down the passenger side. On returning my car to the agency, I told them of the damage and completed the claim forms. Disappointed to discover that the CDW coverage I had paid for was absolutely useless (shame on me for not reading the document more carefully). They told me they would send me an estimate and invoice for the work done on the car. Instead, I only learned of the outrageous amount they were charging when I saw the charge on my credit card. I contacted them and asked for the invoice. Completely insane and unethical billing practices. DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY. I have attempted to negotiate the charges, but they refuse. STAY FAR, FAR AWAY FROM HERTZ. I will never rent from these people again. I wish I could give zero stars. Oh, and as a side note, I also rented a GPS. When I picked up my car, the man at the counter told me to just hit the Home button when it came time to return my rental car. Not true. Our reservation was actually with Dollar Rent a Car, but it was same in the same location as Hertz. We took the shuttle from the airport to pick up our rental car. There was a long line at the checkout counter, so we had a sizable wait. We finally get the keys to the car, but we're told that we have to wait for another staff member to come around to take pictures of the car. We wait a while, and finally my husband goes to find an employee who tells him that the system is broken and they're working on bringing it back up. Growing increasingly impatient, we sit for another half-hour until I finally manage to corral a guy to get us situated so we can finally leave. Only then does my husband attempt to start the car and realize he has no idea how to turn it on. I flag down the guy again to say that we don't know how to start the car. The car was almost like a pseudo-manual, so you had to have the parking brake engaged and the car in neutral to start it. Not exactly the most intuitive process, but finally we were ready to hit the road in our little Skoda Citigo - unfortunately, we were at least a full hour behind schedule with all of these delays. I prepaid for the car, and we were not informed that any additional fees would be collected, but we ended up paying 69.05 Euros when we returned the car. We emailed them for an explanation, and they provided this breakdown. Location Surcharge: 26.43 EUR Credit Card Fee: 5 EUR Administration Fee: 30 EUR VAT: 7.62 EUR Total: 69.05 EUR I'm disappointed that they didn't disclose these charges when we made the booking. read more

Worst car rental place in the world. We bought insurance though AAA and when we went to rent the car they required 5000 euro deposit because they didn't take Allianz insurance. In addition only the person driving must pay for the car. So be aware that if you rent from these people you will need to have $8000 available on your credit card in advance to rent or pay $65 per day in insurance, even if you have already purchased insurance elsewhere. read more

Hertz rent a car, Dublin Airport. What can I say. I have never dealt with a more cynical organisation ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD. It is so expensive as to be beyond a joke. Try 700 Euros for a medium size manual nothing special car for six days and no rebate for bringing back the car a day early. I am still trying to work put how a 50 euro a day morphed into 120 euros a day. Part of the problem was the invoice was split. Another part was a confusing quote. I was promised a free upgrade - it didn't happen and I was basically lied to, or at the very least misled. A total con job under the guise of a friendly Irish customer service officer. She should be ashamed of herself. If you like to keep hold of your Euros under no circumstances should you deal with Hertz Rental Car at Dublin Airport. If you are foolish enough to deal with them go through the agreement piece by piece and take as long as you like. Don't worry about the impatient queue behind you - nail down the agreement and do not believe anything you are told unless it is reduced to writing. Take as long as you like. Take a solicitor with you! My dealings with Hertz at Dublin Airport put a dampner on a wonderful visit to Ireland. I honestly thought organisations like this were long gone. Originally I was going to start with "unbelievable, I can't believe I had the exact same situation happen to me" but I didn't want anyone to be confused with the introduction of "unbelievable". I wound up paying. If you have a choice, go with ANYONE ELSE BUT HERTZ IRELAND. In addition to the standard, "oh your luggage is not going to fit, you need to upgrade" which I trust Hertz knows best. When I was checking in, with two screaming kids, I was told I HAD TO PURCHASE INSURANCE. I told them, I confirmed with my credit card company that they provide the appropriate coverage in Ireland, they said - "sorry, unless you have a formal letter stating that, you have to buy it now... but if you bring that formal letter with you when you drop the car off, they will have it removed" I did bring that letter with me, drop off refused to remove the insurance, and directed me to customer support who is also not honoring the commitment. Oh did I mention, I also received written confirmation from Hertz customer support via online chat in the US (which I copied) that said they would remove the charge. They wouldn't take proof from AMEX that I was covered, so they made me purchase additional coverage. There were several scratches and dings on the car that they had not marked. Thankfully, I inspected it well and made them note the damage before I left. The gas tank was 3/8 full when they handed me the car. Even though I had already paid through Rentalcars.com, I was billed for the rental by Hertz as well. Pathetic service. What's even more pathetic is that nothing has improved in spite of all the complaints and negative reviews. Run away from this company. read more

In one word, AWFUL!! We arranged for two large cars as we were traveling with 7 adults and a toddler. Our prepaid voucher stated that we should have these types of vehicles yet upon arrival at the Hertz counter, the agent assigned us two small sedans. The agent attempted to sell us extra insurance and when we declined, she put a large hold of $5000 on our credit card. She stated we didn't have proof that our credit card covered driving in the Republic of Ireland even though we had checked prior to coming to Ireland. It took over Three Hours to sign the rental car agreement and get cars that would hold us and our belongings. This was after flying 11 hours. Never ever will we use Hertz again. One of the most confusing, and frustrating rental experiences I've had. If you're visiting from the States, don't expect the same Hertz that we have at home. Firstly, this is a Franchise - and after calling Hertz Corporate, a Franchise can apparently have their own, different fees to a company location. Like a lot of people, I pay hundreds of dollars for my Amex every year. One of the benefits is knowing American Express have my back, especially with things like insurance. So I politely told the guy at the counter, I'm declining Hertz insurance because I have my own. He said, "okay great". I get handed a letter (which I expected) that says in large letters 'YOU ARE DECLINING INSURANCE'. The guy told me to read the letter but ran through the details. He skipped over the small text in the middle of this single page of paper. It is an additional 7 EUR per day to decline their insurance. Depending on the type of car you rent, that adds up quickly. For a three week rental I had to pay a 35% premium on top of my actual invoice because I didn't want their insurance. It was hidden, never before mentioned, and purposefully left out of the 'run through' of the document that the agent gave at the location. As soon as my rental is returned I'll be calling Hertz (you can't open a case mid-rental) to see what they think. I'm Gold, whatever that means these days. Whatever comes from that phone call, I will never use this franchise again. Hertz will be the last name I look to when renting abroad. What a disappointment. read more

Booked and prepaid for a rental car to be picked up at midnight. My credit card was charged no problem but upon arrival I was notified that I cannot rent a car because I was not 25. I also cannot get a refund without calling some number the next day. Of course, the website allowed me to book the car and readily charged my credit card without issue. As far as I see, there's no mention of an age limit. I was told my best option was to wait at the airport until 5am when the other airlines reopened. Not what you want to hear after flying all day. I would not recommend using this company to anyone. I waited for the shuttle from the airport to the car rental facility. Then waited in a very long line upon arriving there. Staff rushed through the rental agreement not explaining anything and not providing any written material. Upon looking at my receipt I was slammed with extra fees. The next day I returned the car less than an hour late and was charged for a second day. When I reached out to the company to explain the situation they took weeks to get back to me and were completely unapologetic. Horrible customer service both in person and on line. The lines will take forever to get to your car. Once there, they will give you a completely different car and never go through any pre-inpection with you. When returning the car, they will find something minor to charge you for, even if you're pretty sure it's not something you did anyway. Oh, and somehow insurance won't cover it?? Do not ever use this company! I returned the car in the exact condition it was taken in and they "found" issues with it after I left. I stood next to the inspector when dropping the car off. He stated everything looked good, but I was then hit with additional charges claiming the windshield was cracked (it wasn't when I left it!). I'm a frequent traveler and rent cars from Hertz nearly every week including outside of the US. Additionally, I took the CDW insurance in Ireland to assure I'd be covered from such nonsense, but they still insisted there was damage I must pay for. This is scam opperation to take advantage of American tourists. Many US cards cover insurance in Ireland and I have been using my Visa for over 15 years as I rent cars in Ireland at least once if not twice a year. This time renting from thrifty through the Air Lingus website I booked a golf like car. Firstly they demanded a letter from my credit card company to prove it covered insurance. No one carries such a thing but he tought he could intimadate me with his bullshit. I have never been asked that before and the agent Clive was hostile to put it mildy. Then he gave me a dacia car which cost $12500 Euros. I golf is around double the price. Con number two! Then while I did finally get hold of the US and get a letter from the visa company clearly covering Ireland he kept on sending more and more emails to us. We will never rent here again and be aware to have a letter for cover your visa or master card insurance. They charge more for insurance than the rental car would ever cost. Its a con job. Sorry to see that previous reviewer had a really bad time with Hertz. My experience was quite different. The car hire started at Shannon Airport and finished in Dublin. Very efficient check-in at the airport desk in Shannon Airport. Had me sorted and on my way very quickly. Even gave me a choice of "Insignia or Passat". Took the Passat as they're both on the same tariff. Return at Dublin is a little bit of a pain, as you drop the car off outside the airport compound and then get mini bus into the airport. Quite efficient, though. Overall, I'm happy with the service. Hope that previous reviewer comes back to Ireland and has a better experience. read more

TERRIBLE COMPANY DO NOT USE I have rented a car a number of times and never had any issues except with this company. My partner and I wanted to change the name on our reservation so he could pay with his credit card for insurance purposes. The lady at front desk was not helpful whatsoever and told us that could not be done. We walked away and called Hertz ourselves, in which case the man on the phone said the name could be transferred no problem with no additional charge. We were able to pickup a car after that. After the rental period ended, I did not get back $100 of my prepaid amount. We have been trying to contact Hertz about this multiple times - their notes are never up to date with the last conversation and they never seem to have any clue what is going on. Please do not use this company they will give you more headaches than you can imagine. read more

It is extremely rare for me to write a negative review, but I had the same experience with Hertz Car Rental at the Dublin Airport as many others. I would be very cautious about renting from Hertz. I made an original reservation with Expedia for Hertz for a Standard Van from September 23, 2017 until October 7, at the rate of $797.13 I cancelled this as I decided I didn't want such a large vehicle for driving in Ireland. The next day I reserved a Midsize SUV for $844,60, an increase in the rate but worth it to me to get the smaller size. When we arrived at the Dublin Airport, we were told by the Hertz representative that there were no Midsize SUVs available, only Standard Vans. We had no choice but to accept this if we wanted a car. We were told it would be a few hundred more, which we later discovered was in euros, not dollars. Yet, we were even more shocked at the conversion. When we received our Master Card last month, the charge from Hertz was $1342.35 plus the transaction fee. That is $497.75 over the contracted amount. I contacted Expedia (was told I had to go through Hertz) and Hertz. This is the response from Hertz: 'We are concerned by your comments of being forced to accept the vehicle upgrade at the time of your rental. Please be assured this is not typical of Hertz service and we will use your comments to improve our service going forward. Regrettably, we are unable to reconstruct the conversation between our representative and yourself. Therefore, we must rely on the signed documentation indicating your acceptance of the vehicle upgrade charge. I apologize for any misunderstanding, however, no adjustment is warranted. ' After reading other reviews on Yelp, I realize quite a few individuals have had the same experience. Hertz won't help us resolve this in a positive manner, but at least I can warn others. read more
