I inquired about a vehicle on their site 3 times - no one called me so I decided I call them. Once I called and made an appointment to look at a vehicle, they were pretty friendly. I made the appointment for the day after. Being an hour 1/2 away I also called the day off to confirm. They said all is well and we're good to go. They even texted me and said looking forward to seeing you an hour before my appointment! I got there the scheduled appointment time and they had informed me the vehicle was sold. And it's been sold for some time. So not only did they lie on the phone when I made the appointment, they lied the day of the appointment. I understand miscommunications and clerical errors happen, but this was really absurd and wasted over 3 hours of my time. I also believe it was a bit intentional as as soon as I got there they were VERY eager to try and get me into another car yet didn't have any of the particular one I was looking for. She was nothing but pushy, fake and the worst salesman I've ever had an encounter with. The fact she would rush us to make a big decision was ridiculous. I got my 2006 jeep liberty for a good price, but it was all downhill from there. I've driven only 8000 miles in the 9 months that I've had it and in that period first I've had to bring it back for leaking oil and motoring rotors in two different instances. Both times it took a long time to get the car serviced. Last month my car started to make grinding sounds when braking and after bringing it back again they indicated that my calipers had seized and I had a leaking power steering hose. The seizes calipers had led to my rotors being eaten completely. The repair cost was $820 for $150 in parts (1 caliper and brake pads) and rest labor. I indicated that I was amazed with that there where issues again with parts that had had issues and have been repaired before, but they said that these parts can go any time. Even if I've only driven the car for 8000 miles. I ended up saying that I would take the car somewhere else when they indicated that they felt the car was unsafe to drive. I took it somewhere else anyway and the car got fixed (with both calipers being replaced plus brake pads and rotors) for $430. I will not go back to hertrich ever, and I won't recommend it to anyone else. And don't trust the positive reviews you read. They offer free oil changes if you give positive reviews after buying a vehicle so that's why it looks so good. Too bad there's a big difference sometimes in looking good vs being good... read more

So far in the past two weeks I've had to return my Mazda to be serviced twice! Each time it coming back driving good for maybe a couple days at most then engine light back on and driving isn't as smooth. My car is now in a worst condition than when I originally brought it in. I own a cx and have needed a fuel injector replacement, ignition caps replaced and now I'm being told it's the battery. I will fill in once everything is either fixed or I just say to heck with the dang thing lol. read more

I have a car with an APPROVED insurance claim. I called to make an appointment here and was told that because the parts for my car are expensive, I have to pay for them IN ADVANCE, out of pocket! The service manager said that he was recently "burned" on $300 worth of parts and that they wouldn't order a $1900 part without advance payment. I explained that this is an approved insurance claim and offered the claim info and was told that either way the part would have to be paid for in advance. Seems to me that they're not doing very well financially if they can't manage to order a part. Wonder how they make payroll. read more

To Whom it may concern, My name is James Paulsen and I recently had purchased a vehicle from your Hertrich Capital Mazda Lincoln of Dover dealership. I wanted to share my feeling on our experience at your dealership, for the 4 hours we were there the car salesmen Derek Smith was very accomodating. We test drove 3 different vehicles and he was very polite. After we decided on a vehicle there were some hiccups we were not fond of. We were there for 4 hours which an extremely long time to me. I work night shifts as an RN and the hours can be long and grueling, I had just gotten off working a double at 8:30 am we got to the dealership at 10:40 and did not leave til after 3 pm. I understand this is a large purchase and can take time but it seems excessive to be there that long. After we found the car we liked and settled on a price the sales manager came back and stated the previous owner only turned the car in with one key and we had to purchase the additional key for $200. I felt this was a terrible custome service, it came across to me like you were shorting us a key and trying to save a few bucks in the process. I almost walked out then but after 4 hours in a dealership and a hungry 2 year old that was fed up I just decided to bite the bullet and move on. I did however stress I would like the key just sent to me since my wife and I work crazy hours and driving an hour to pick up a key was not something we wanted to do. Both the salesman and the sales manager emphatically stated that would not be a problem and they would just send us the key. A few days go by and Derek calls me stating that not only can they not send me the key but I would have to go into New Castle and get the key myself or drive to Dover have them drive my car to New Castle and then drive back to me in Dover, both options take up about 2 hours in and 2 hours back...4 hours of my time that I just don't have to give. I work up to 70 hours + in an emergency department and an infirmary/pcu area. I don't have the time to interrupt the 6 hours I get to try to sleep or the 2 hours I maybe get to see my family to go get a key that was promised to be sent to me...a key that really should have been given to us when we purchased the car. I told Derek this was unacceptable and that he promised the key could be sent to me. Derek stated he would contact the sales manager and call me back. 20 minutes later Derek called me back and in a "take it or leave it tone" restated the options along with a 3rd option of just sending us $200 and we do it ourselves. I was infuriated so I asked for the $200 and I also wanted a number to the corporate office to complain. Derek said "That's fine you want your $200 sent to you right?" I stated yes and restated I wanted the corporate number again. Instead of providing the number Derek hung up on me and has not called back since. It is extremely disappointing that after the sales was through I was treated like I don't matter and lied to, the words "used car salesman" have a negative underhanded connotation to them and this exprerience proves it to be true. I can honestly say this was the worst car buying experience that I have had to endure and would never reccommend any of your establishments to any of my colleagues at the hosptial or infirmary/pcu. This really emphasis how after a car dealership treats you after you sign the dotted line. When you buy a new car, you should leave feeling excited and ecstatic about your big purchase. When I left this dealership, I felt anxious, overwhelmed, and as if I had made a very bad mistake. I'm not even from this state and I chose to come to this dealership based on a family member's recommendation. Next time, I'll stay in-state...for 2 reasons: 1. My overall experience at the actual dealership. I understand when you buy a new car, you should assume your whole entire day will be spent there. I spent basically 2 full afternoons there (for a total of at least 8 hours). Not only was my car not ready when it was supposed to be, when it finally was ready, it turns out my salesperson had incorrectly ordered a different car from the one I was expecting, further inconveniencing me. Fortunately, the general sales manager (Matt Milligan) worked very, very hard to compensate for her error and was able to provide me with the exact car I wanted to buy. This key aspect should not be overlooked because it helped to make my experience a lot better. I am incredibly grateful for Matt's efforts to make me happy and have withheld the name of his salesperson for this very reason. 2. My license plates were then lost in the mail. No big deal when you think about it, but based on my past experience, it was just one more inconvenience. Luckily, I had the foresight to call and ask where they were when it had been over a week and half since they were supposedly delivered. Good thing I did because my temporary plates were set to expire in 2 days. Fortunately, a nice woman named Maria overnighted me new temporary plates while she worked to get the new official plates sent to me. I have since received my plates and all is well. If it wasn't for Matt Milligan, the manager I dealt with on the second day and Nate Hoffman (finance), this dealership would have gotten a 1 star review. In the end, there is a silver lining....and that's that I have an awesome new car and ya really can't be too mad about that, now can you? read more

He listened and took everything we needed into consideration. He understood we were in a tight bind with moving into an apartment a week later. I went to the dealership (on July 30, 2016) to test drive a Mazda-3 hatchback, and wound up driving a CX-3, which I liked better. I had purchased a CX-5 from Hertrich in 2015 and basically felt I had been treated fairly. The sales lady (Tina) knew me and told me to take the car home so my wife could drive it. My wife (who is 4 feet, 8 inches) could not see to drive it, even when the seat was raised as far as possible. I called Tina to tell her this but got her voicemail. She called the next day (Sunday) to ask if my wife would try to use a cushion to raise the seat higher, which I stated was unsafe and unsatisfactory. She advised me to bring the car back to get my old car (a 2007 Jeep Liberty) back. On Monday, she called to say she was working to find another car, which might be suitable...and to keep the CX-3 until Tuesday. On Tuesday, Tina called both of us separately (I was out of town on business) to tell us the dealership had sold my Jeep on Saturday afternoon, although I had not agreed to any purchase or trade-in. When my wife went to the dealership on Tuesday, the Sales Manager (Paul) showed her a Mazda-3 with an electric seat, which allowed my wife to see to drive. When my wife asked how they could sell our Jeep without permission or without the signed-over title, Paul told her the dealership could get the title without our signature. Furthermore, because the Mazda-3 cost more money than the CX-3, we would have to agree to take short-term (3-month) financing so they could recover some of the cost difference between the two cars. My wife had said she would only agree to the Mazda-3 if the price was the same as the CX-3. My wife was left with no choice but to take the car, since our Jeep had been "sold" and could not be returned. On August 5, I went to the dealership and spoke with the financing manager, Art. I told him we would only take the car as a lease, without taking the short-term financing. That was agreeable and I took the Mazda-3 for 3 years, 30,000 miles. The dealership agreed to pay the first of the 36 payments. When I told Art that I was very unhappy with how we had been treated, his response was "sorry about that". We did receive the same trade-in price for the Jeep as had been discussed originally when I had planned to pay cash for our new car. He also mentioned that the "low mileage Jeep" was considered to be a very desirable used car. On August 12, I filed a complaint with the Delaware Better Business Bureau. Hertrich has not contacted me about this complaint. On August 22, Tina (the original sales person) called me to ask me when I was going to bring the Jeep's title in to the dealership. No-one ever asked me to return the title, neither the sales or financing manager. As of this date (August 24), I still have the title. Also on August 22, I I do not believe Hertrich can sell the Jeep without the title, so we have been lied to repeatedly by the sales person, sales manager and financing manager. I will never buy another car from Hertrich and would advise everyone to stay away from this untrustworthy and unethical dealer. read more

Service was incredibly poor, and when I asked basic questions about the specifics of a model I was looking at, both the salesperson AND manager had no answer for me; they were completely uneducated about their product. The work was done poorly and I had the misfortune to work with two of the most incompetent service managers that I have met in my 60 years. These people are a sad mix of dishonesty and incompetence. I bought a car from here November 2017. My sales person was absolutely amazing. I even recommended 2 people to this dealership because of the amazing service I received from my sales rep. That however was before I EVER had to deal with their service desk. My first encounter with them, my car was brought up due to power locks not working. I left that day after being refused service because my side mirror had been broke, also with more problems then when I arrived. After leaving I was having issues with my turn signals, windshield wipers, and a few other things. Come to find out the man that worked on my car just decided he was going to remove a bunch of fuses and not put them back or replace them. Then they gave me a hard time about a rental, a rental is covered under my warranty. Currently sitting here with my second encounter with them, my car is still under warranty, they're trying to tell me they had no record of my warranty in their system. After pulling out my warranty information, they miraculously found it in their system. Then proceeded to tell me that my cars issues are not covered under warranty, despite being covered in the warranty in 2 different ways. I stepped into the Mazda dealership about 4 years ago. I had been researching a CX-7 for a few years and knew what I wanted and how much they were worth. I test drove the car I wanted and made a fair offer that day... Capitol declined. I called a dealership in Newark, told them what I wanted and how much I would pay.... Same model, same color, better options, and I ended up paying $400 dollars less than I offered Capitol Mazda. 3 weeks later I heard from Capitol Mazda accepting my original offer, obviously declined. On to this year... 9 Months ago the fuel pump in my CX-7 fails, Capitol Mazda decides that since it is 2000 miles past the warranty mileage that my car is not covered... After repair at another facility it is discovered that my turbo is also shot. I pay out of pocket for both repairs. Several months after repair I hear a strange noise and decide to go back to capitol mazda to check it out. Capitol says that the turbo repair wasn't done with mazda oem parts and that the bolts have broken off causing a seal leak noise. I have them replace the seals and bolts. When I approach the place that replaced the turbo, they show me all the replacement information including the fact that they actually ordered the OEM parts from Capital mazda. They listen to the car with a stethoscope and believe the wrist pin on a piston is going bad... Likely from oil starvation when the turbo went. So here we are 9 months later and I have a blown motor in a car with just over 60,000 miles on it. I went and bought myself a Lincoln today. I saved myself thousands of dollars by going 25 miles north to New Castle and buying from a dealership that cares about its customers. read more
