But the people and the vibe that used to make Roundtop a special place for families is nowhere to be seen. A special note to anyone from Vail, who happens to read this. There is is a family of five skiers that grew up at Roundtop because I brought them there. The mothers were able to ski during the week with the babies and toddlers. There was daycare for the babies and toddlers. There were plugs for the crockpot for the lunches downstairs. It's all gone. The only thing left is the purchase price and share value of the corporation. Where do you expect the next generation of skiers to come from?

It was hot and humid but the ride was mostly in shade. The horses were very well behaved, and my daughter absolutely loved it. Her horse was well behaved and gave no issues. My wife's horse kept eating (much like me), but still was gentle and easy going. This place is great for beginners as the horses are well behaved. You take a 15 minute tutorial in how to ride then off you go.

Center the Void…read more Built in 1999, this visitors center was named after the man who generously donated the money to build it so that he could help other nature lovers find a place to learn about and enjoy nature. The Good: *Center is really nice and clean and looks very modern considering it's been open for over twenty years. *Bird feeder in the back was the most nature we saw the entire time at the park. *Great place to bring kids, as they have lots of interactive experiences for them. The Meh: *Staff was not as friendly as they should be, considering it's a nature center. You shouldn't feel like you're bothering them when asking questions. *Not a great place to cool off from the heat, as the inside was almost as warm as being outside. I'm not sure if the AC was on the fritz or if they're trying to save a few bucks? The Ugly: *Doesn't open until 10 a.m. I have no idea why some of these VCs open up so late. Hiking is an early man's game, imo, so the VCs should reflect that, but I'm sure I'm in the minority on this. TLDR: One of those rare times when I like the VC more than the park itself. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

normally I would say this is an amazing place. my kids get excited to go on Saturday mornings and…read morewe typically take them once or twice a month. we even take the in-laws when they are visiting. today was not like that. today, an employee told me to "do better" because I was with my child. my daughter had just run from the stuffed animals to the phones to listen to the stories. now, I will admit that this weekend it was much busier that most weekends we go. today the place was packed with running and screaming children. mine was not one of them. in fact, my youngest was in the back room coloring when the man approached me. As we left, my husband noted that the man also approached another mom and made a comment to her and she quipped back that it is a place for kids. He also noted that no dad was approached yet there were plenty around. I can tell you it will be a long while before I take my kids back and even longer before I consider shopping at the gift shop or making a donation. Maybe your employee should "do better" with how he talks to people.

I run here weekly and just love how nice the paths are kept. Highly recommend coming here for either a leisure walk or a nice little run. In total, I think the path is about 4 miles long which takes you into South Middleton Park and loops back around.

Spring Meadows Park in Boiling Springs, Pennsylvania was the venue for a 12 hour ultra marathon…read morerunning event that I took part in 2023 May. It was that moment when upon a rash of excitement that you wanted to visit central Pennsylvania and do a race. And so, I arrived here on a Saturday morning around 7am via Uber with a friend of mine. The park itself had a walking trail that looped around the park and served as the course for the 12 hour ultra marathon running event. To be honest, I felt like the park was quite beautiful and mesmerizing. It was a very large open space that you could do prophetically anything and everything you wanted to At a moments notice, legally, of course. My time here at Spring meadows park in boiling Springs, Pennsylvania was about 13 hours in total. It was nice to get to know the park itself and doing multiple loops helps facilitate with that. The part boasts a large enough parking lot for about 20 or 25 vehicles and also has a small baseball field next to the parking lot. I'm sure the Spring Meadows Park is well maintained by the county that's local to this area. My favorite part about this part is the fact that there was an American flag that was flying that day and it helps keep my mood up-beat while I was doing my miles around the park. For the most part though, it was enjoyable for me to come here. I saw a few random people take their dogs out while I was here in May 2023. It was a nice place to be in Central Pennsylvania. The overall experience here at Spring Meadows Park in Boiling Springs, Pennsylvania was quite lovely and scenic. I only know of the gravel track that loops around the main area of the park, bit I'm willing to bet that the park itself extends beyond that and into some wilderness area immediately south, west, and maybe east of the park itself bordering some trees and bushes. I loved the outdoors and having this opportunity to enjoy the park for what it's designed to be and do for the local community of Boiling Springs and possibly the city of Carlisle is immeasurably awesome and great. The main part of the park is basically a park. There is restroom facilities there, although thankfully I didn't have to use it while I was there. The entire loop around the park was just under 1.5 miles in length. There was that nice downhill section in the morning was cool and awesome, shielded by the trees, but as the day wore on, after 11am, that shade evaporated and you'd have a downhill stretch with the sun beating down on you. It was tolerable but totally annoying. There are limited amount of things you can and can't do here, that are legal in nature. If you are in the area, passing thru, and want to make a stop here to relax and enjoy, consider coming here to Spring Meadows Park and enjoy the beautiful serenity. It is a really nice area and grateful to be here on May 27, 2023. I'm sure you would be too. Spring Meadows Park in Boiling Springs, Pennsylvania is located along W 1st Street in Boiling Springs. There is a large pavillion #4 with its own parking lot in the middle of the park itself. I wondered if the Uber could have made it there and I didn't have to walk back up to 1st street at the meet up point. Oh well. Like all public parks, there is no admission fee to access it, which is awesome! If you are like me, best bet would be a rental car or even just a car. I ended up here (and departed here) via Uber since my friend couldn't get a rental car with a debit card and had to improvise on the fly. It is what it is. Not sure if there is public transportation here in boiling springs or even in Carlisle / Harrisburg to get here. Might need to Google that and choose the best route to get to boiling springs. Regardless of how you get here, it's all amazing and scenic out here. Wish I took some photos but I was here for a 12 hr running event. If you're in the area, come on by. Returning recently felt less like revisiting an old favorite and more like realizing how much something you care about has changed... and not for the better. The disappointment started as soon as I pulled into the parking lot. Deep potholes, chunks of scraped-up blacktop piled near the stairs, and metal crowd-control barriers scattered throughout the lot gave an immediate sense that things weren't quite right. I fully understand that it's winter in Central PA -- snow, salt, and weather take their toll -- so I wasn't expecting perfection. But this felt like more than seasonal wear and tear. It felt like neglect. Aside from the stadium -- which stands tall, clean, and well-maintained even in the middle of winter -- much of the rest of the island looks forgotten. And this isn't just a "winter off-season" issue. The more I walked, the more signs of long-term neglect became clear: peeling paint, rusting structures, broken or deteriorating features that appear to have been left untouched for years. What started as mild disappointment turned into genuine sadness as I compared what I was seeing to photos I have from visits many years ago, when the island felt welcoming, cared for, and full of pride. As a Central PA native, it's difficult to see such a beautiful and potentially vibrant space in this condition -- especially one that represents our state's capital to visitors. City Island should be a showcase destination, and right now it feels like a missed opportunity. There seem to be so many possibilities for community involvement -- volunteer projects, partnerships with local organizations, youth programs -- to help restore and maintain the island. For whatever reason, it doesn't appear that those efforts are happening, and that's disappointing. The views of the river and the city skyline remain beautiful, as always -- as long as you keep your focus outward rather than on the island itself. I truly hope to see City Island revived and restored to the welcoming, vibrant place I remember.
