I've spent the past four years since I moved to Memphis bouncing around from salon to salon, and…read moreI've inevitavly left each one feeling somewhere on the "meh" to "just don't cry" spectrum. I've tried friends' recommendations, accosted women with great hair in the street, pored over Insta and Yelp reviews, even done zip code searches for salons in ritzy areas (there's a Lulu AND an Apple store there? It must be good, right? Wrong. So wrong.). Go figure, the place--and stylist--I'd been searching for was right in my backyard. I picked Pavo on a whim, literally sitting in my car in a parking lot and dejectedly picking at my split ends, telling myself that I had to get a damn haircut before my vacation, and sincerely considering Googling Great Clips rather than suffer the anticipation of trying a new stylist. I picked Pavo because I kind of wanted to try their shampoo. Truth. I called and they had an opening for the next day. Great sign, right? Actually - YES. In fact, hell to the yes. When I tell you that the universe aligned and the heavens opened up when Merideth walked into the waiting area, I am not kidding. She was fun and bright and bouyant and laser-focused on my hair--how did I wear it most often, how did it react in humidity, how did it like its eggs in the morning--and gave recommendations and tips and honest feedback with the ease and grace of a physician ballerina who also happens to be your best friend. The products she chose were magic, her tips invaluable, and the cut stellar. I'm obviously a huge fan, and can't recommend this place highly enough.

I wanna start off by saying I've never really been dissatisfied with the results of the haircuts…read moreI've had there. Quite the opposite. However, four times in the last year I have been called within an hour of my appointment only to be told at the stylist wouldn't be able to make it in, and they would need to reschedule, and they would not be able to accommodate for a cut that day. I understand that people have personal lives, and once or twice if someone can't make it in, I certainly understand. But four times is a trend that I just can no longer ignore. Again, the service is fine, but if you rely, like I do, on being able to count on a haircut at a certain time, then I'm afraid that they may fall short. If you can afford to be a little more flexible with your time this might not be an issue, but just take it under consideration. Now I'm off to Sport Clips. Wish me luck.

After my first visit, my hair did not turn out quite the way I thought. She explained it would look better with each trim. I went about four times. The style never turned out right. Something came up which prevented me from going back and I just stopped. Upon further research, she is only an apprentice hairstylist and the styled I wanted was not her specialty. I blame myself for not doing the research before hand. However, the environment was pleasant and she was nice as well. I loved the shampoo and conditioning treatment.

I was able to watch the techniques she uses when washing hair and applying the products. I loved how it turned out and she even gave me a tip sheet and 2 scrunchies when she was finished. I bought the deva curl products she used and did my version of wash n go. I didn't section my hair as much as she did and I only hit my hair with the diffuser for 10 minutes then let it air dry the rest of the way. I'm excited to keep using her tips and getting hair healthy again after a couple years of damage. I highly recommend Dominique about I plan you go back in the spring!
