I have tried to like this course, but the management just doesn't care if you like it or not, if they did, they would have consider the reviews. The rough needs to be mowed 5 inches is a bit much and it would certainly speed up play, because most average golfers can't find their balls in the rough. Secondly while I understand this is a municipal course golf etiquette is a must anywhere you play, if they had a ranger managing the course the pace of play would be suitable. This was not the case since the foursome in front of us had at least 3 open holes in front of them and would not let the faster players (a twosome) to play through. This held up the entire course, making it 4.5-hour round for two people to play. I just can't do it again for the price they charge!!! read more

After paying premium weekend rates, I was greeted with extremely rude rangers, unnecessary cart path only rules, and wasp infested bunkers on every hole. This is unfortunate because the course has so much potential, but due to a clear lack of management skills and poor hiring decisions, I in good faith could not recommend this course to any golfer of any level. I left my range finder and divot tool unattended for 20 minutes just to find them stolen from my cart. This again attests to the type of clientele and workers this establishment hosts. read more

We were as part of the Lambdalinks golf league. The course layout looked good. Unfortunately, most of the tee boxes were under maintenance. Really surprised to see maintenance going on during the peak season. We had to play from uneven areas. They have a small pro shop. Lockers are small as well. Driving range does not have tees. You have to bring your own rubber tees if you want to swing driver. read more

Such a shame this course is ran by some old assholes. I came here a while ago on St. Patrick's day with 2 of my buddies and was immediately thrown off by the guy at the pro shop. He had some attitude about him like he hated his job or the people that golf there or something The starter was no better, he let 2 groups ahead of us who had tee times after us, preferential treatment maybe? I don't know. If any pro's ever came to this course they would likely leave because of the attitude of the guys running this place alone. I also have no idea how they get away with charging almost $90 for a mediocre golf course. If I were you i'd save your money and not play here or play any of the tens of better courses in the area. I'll never play here again, or at least until these guys are no longer working there. read more

A nice 18 hole public course off the Dulles Toll Road. I've played here a couple of times. Nice course that is fun to play for all levels of player. Not many water hazards, sand traps are firm and the greens are fast and challenging. It has a small pro shop, nice snack bar and outdoor seating when it's nice. $30 for 9 and $45 for 18 walking. They have practice greens for putting and chipping plus an outdoor driving range. They do rent clubs if you need them to play a round. You play 9 in about 2.5 hours if walking. They do have golf leagues during the week. read more

Upon arriving, the starter yelled at me "what's your name?" I asked how he was doing, and he ignored my friendly greeting. Immediately, I was thrown off. He asked if was planning on walking to which I said my group was planning on riding. He responded "well that's not going to happen." I understand that COVID has made an issue for everyone riding, but that seemed like a super aggressive and unnecessary stance to take. I called earlier that day and the pro shop said it should be feasible for everyone to ride. Despite his opinion, my group and the previous 5 groups were all able to get carts. Immediately after the group ahead of us teed off, while we were waiting 30 feet behind the tee box, he screamed at us to get on the tee. This guy, who was working the afternoon of 8/8, is the worst starter I've ever encountered during my 10 years of playing golf. My friends and I unanimously agreed to not come back to this course because of this man's unwarranted demeanor. read more

I have always wanted to golf this course, and had an opportunity this past weekend. We opted for 9 holes instead of the treacherous 18 holes. With a tee time of 11:00AM, the weather had already gotten 'unbearable', but we were looking forward to playing this course. It's easy to find and they offer plenty of parking. Check-in was easy at the small pro shop. The course is just next to the WO&D trail, in fact you have a special bridge to cross if you want to play the remaining 9 holes. The 9 hole course is quite a bit longer than some of the courses I normally play. I went a full 3 hours with my 4 person group. Overall a nice course for walking. read more

This was a beautiful course with a nice club-house and driving range/practice green. There aren't many water hazards, so play is kind of strait forward, great for people learning! They were hosting a junior championship and did not do a very good job of marshaling the pace and should have never offered play to normal customers on such a horrifically busy day for the course. We got through 18 holes in about 6.5 hours with most people along the way just giving up on the wait... To be fair when we arrived they noted a slight delay in play time due to the junior tourney but not a staggering halt...They were kind enough to give us a free ticket to come back without us even saying anything, but honestly, they should never have sold t-times knowing how bad it could be. read more

Absolutely smashing golf course bang in the middle of Herndon - really good value, really lovely layout, comes with a drving range and a putting green. Rates are $26 during the week. If you work in the area it's a lovely spot to come and bang some balls at lunch time. The grill is world famous and deserves a review of its own as it has been written up in the Washington Post. This course is underrated in my opinion. It's not Pebble Beach, but it's fair and the greens fees are reasonable. I'd have to say it's usually in good shape too. There's a decent range and putting green to practice on. The snack bar has pretty good food too. They have good hotdogs, sausages, and pulled pork sandwiches. Those are the only things I've tried so far. My friends and I play here a lot since it's more affordable. That means we get to play more often as well. The backup here is more severe later in the day due to it being more affordable though. read more

This was the first golf course I ever played at when I first moved down to the area. This is actually a good golf course in my opinion. Prices are very reasonable, and they have a driving range and putting green. Last time I played here, the conditions were just fine - tee boxes and greens were in decent shape, and the fairways were what I expected from a municipal course. One time I came, there were serious bugs flying around. Perhaps it's just me, but having that many bugs on the course is quite off-putting. Needless to say, I now carry Off! whenever I play golf here (or anywhere. Need to be safe). Overall, this isn't Augusta, but this isn't your backyard course as well. Staff is friendly, and the course is easy enough to get to. Fun place to play on. read more

This course plays pretty well when there hasn't been much rain in the foreacast. They have some drainage issues on a few holes (17 for sure) but I'd like to see what its like on a good day. The rates are ridiculous for the conditions but other than that, pretty good. Bonus for the full grill inside the clubhouse. Everything in there is priced pretty well. read more

This is the slowest course I've ever played in my life. Every time I play here the round of golf is consistently over 6 hours which is absolutely insane. My group had a tee-time set up one day and we were delayed by an hour. The course is littered with old guys who place bets on every putt, making their green time exorbitantly long. The course marshals are practically non-existent and won't ask anyone to speed up play. You're better off going off to a Fairfax County owned course like Twin Lakes. read more

Google showed that they opened at 7:30 so I showed up shortly after that and had to wait until 8ish until they dropped the chains. I was there to hit the range before work but couldn't because their reason was that walking on the frosted grass would damage it, one would think that they would have thought about that when making their $2m in renovations and put a walkway out to the range. read more

I was playing at this course with my friends today. The course is decent, however the course marshal constantly driving by while we were teeing off was a bit annoying. I am writing this review not solely to discuss the course which is average but the customer experience. Upon completion of our 18 holes my friends and I went to the clubhouse to cool down, we had a group of 8. The tables inside the clubhouse are situated to seat four to a table therefore we just pulled some chairs from the neighboring table (which was not occupied) to sit together. I stood up for a split second and an employee there took my chair and said she was cleaning up. I told her that I was using that chair and she became belligerent and began to scream at me. The owner of the course then came from the kitchen area and instead of inquiring as to what happened took an aggressive tone with me. Another patron saw me explaining the situation to him and even said "Jeff, she was wrong" (Jeff is the owner)... However neither of them felt the need to apologize... To add further insult the belligerent employee than says "you know how these people are!" I am not sure what she meant by that, we had a diverse group of guys playing with us. Non the less it is a bit displeasing to spend over $500 to get a group of 8 guys on the course and then be stereotyped as " these people". The average age in our group was 35, I would not recommend this course to younger golfers as they are rude, belligerent and prejudice. This is a nicely maintained little muni out near Dulles. The price is decent, ~$50 on a weekday afternoon, versus ~$75 at the daily fee tracks. They have a decent grill in the no frills clubhouse. The putting green is pretty big, although it could use more undulations to better mimic that conditions on the course. The range is mostly mats (about 15 stalls), other than a small area used for lessons. The is some what in play on the first and 18th holes. The course itself is short, about 6200 from he tips. There are 4 different tee boxes on most holes. I found that the front 9 par 3s were about the same length (160/170) as one another and again on the back side (130/140). The par 5s were tougher to judge, since they were working on the tee boxes on 2 of them so they were playing way short. I found the fairways to be spongy and not conducive to getting much roll. The greens were modestly receptive. However the areas around the greens were sometimes in rough shape. Its kind a pet peeve for me, if my ball is between the bunker and the green, I expect to be sitting on grass, not in a hardpan hole. The traps were a little inconsistant. In two cases, the sand was deep and fluffy, in another, there was barely an inch of sand to play off of. On the high side, they appear to be working to improve the course. There were a number of tee boxes and fairway bunkers being re/build when I played there last week. I thought the rangers did a good job of patrolling the course and keeping play moving. We played as a three some in under 3 hrs 30 min. They could stand to send out a nicer cart girl with more than just chips to eat. read more

This course is one of the best kept secrets. This is an older, very solid municipal course. Its not a high end course, but very solid with enough challenges. $48 to ride and $32 to walk, Monday thru Friday. One of the rare courses where Friday rates are not weekend rates. Very solid value to play here. I have played other places paying up to $90 and left feeling ripped off. Not here, this place you will get your money's worth. read more

Course itself was great. In good shape with well tended greens and nice, thick rough. The gentleman playing the role of "starter" while I was there, however, was the most obnoxious golf course employee I've ever had the misfortune of meeting. Old white guy with a white beard. He started telling us one minute after our tee time that the other two players in our foursome, who were strapping their bags onto their cart, would have to meet us in the fairway. I laughed it off as a joke but he kept harping even after the other two came up and hit their drives within a minute. Later on, I'd had a rough hole and had a long putt for 6 on a par 4. We had waited just a minute or two for the group in front of us, no big deal at all, pace was good. The starter had the nerve to drive by and tell me to pick up my putt, because I "didn't need it anyway." Again, I ignored him until he yelled "C'MON!" at us. We told him we'd already waited for the group in front of us and we would finish out. I 2-putted for a 7 and moved on, at which point he followed us from well behind to the next hole, where again, we waited for the group in front of us. I had to flag him down to show him, at which point he gave a dismissive wave and drove off. That jerk really put a damper on what was otherwise a great experience. read more

One of the very best municipal golf courses in the Washington metropolitan area. Top of the line grounds keeper always has the course in great shape within the context of the area's weather. With the high volume of golfers that regularly play the course it is nothing short of amazing it is in such superb condition. The greens are cut a bit long and therefore are a bit slow. My guess is this is due to the high volume of foot traffic. Played today as a twosome in 3.5 hours. The pace of play will not be that quick on the weekends. Rough was longer than usual today. Very likely due to the recent wet weather impacting the mowing schedule. Highly recommend you give this fine facility a try. read more

First off this review is for management only bc the course was in pretty good condition and its a fun course to play. I played there this past Saturday June 22nd. The pace of play was awful and on such a short course a 5 hour 45 minute round is terrible and and it would have been longer if two groups in front of us didn't leave after 9 holes. Apparently they decided it was a good idea to lump tee times directly behind a youth golf tournament or outing. I have no problem with them having a tournament for kids and I actually think its great but if I tee off at 130 I shouldn't even know there was a tournament going on. Also I would have appreciated a heads up about this event when making my tee time several days in advance so I could have played elsewhere. read more

This review is the tale of two extremes for one round of golf. I lived next to this course for 3 1/2 years and never played there once, even though it always looked in excellent shape. I moved about 14 months ago and at the last minute, I decided to play on the Sunday over Memorial Day weekend. I arrived at 2:45 and as a single was able to sneak in with a two-some and one other single. everyone was walking with a pull cart so I decided to walk and carry my bag. The pro shop said they were crowded and playing at 3pm on a holiday weekend for only $30 for 18 holes, I didn't expect it to be a speedy round. It took 4:45 to play and I waited to hit nearly every shot. The course itself was in extremely good shape, especially for a heavily played muni. The greens were all consistent, free of any weeds, a little on the slow side but very tricky and challenging to putt. There were a little more ball marks then I like to see but considering there were about 70 high school golf team players in a tournament in front of us, didn't surprise me. The course has a nice layout and it's far from long. Now the worst part-there were at least a BILLION little gnats flying everywhere disrupting every shot I took and biting me at least 100 times. I have bites all over my ears, neck, back of head, forearms, shins, back of legs, and just about everywhere. It was so unbearable and I still don't know why I didn't walk off the course after 4-5 holes. I once played Raspberry Falls and had a similar bad bug experience and never returned. I have been scratching for 4 days and have welts all over. The people I played with said they play there often over the years and never saw anything that extreme with the bugs. Will I return-maybe in the fall after the bugs die off but never in the summer. Even bug spray didn't work. Other wise it would have gotten a higher rating. read more

Since I am a member of this club and play there quite often - I can tell you that there are parts of the course that needs serious help. For example, hole 3 (par 5 hole) is always water logged -even during summer. I have told them pro shop that they need to go easy on the water and look to provide some good drainage mechanism many times - not much has happened there. The fairways are alright -greens are ok. They have been at work redoing tee boxes -so I hope they get better soon. They have also removed from Squalls (especially around 18th) so you can look and see where you are going. Since it is a links style course, during busy times you are going to see other golfers come to the hole that you are playing (because they sliced or hooked!). read more

A quirky little course. Twice when I've played, there have been random golfers practicing short game or approach shots on the course holes. I guess the course allows this; I think it's annoying and weird and I've never played a round on any other course where this has happened. I also think it's more difficult than the slope/rating would indicate. The course isn't long but it is tight. read more

Frost delay, 8:15 am, wouldn't even let us hit at the driving range. Very poor customer service. Not accommodating at all.

If you want a reasonably priced course to play that is in GREAT condition 95% of the time, just take the time and pleasure to play this layout. One of he Best in the N. Viginia area. New bunckers, cart paths, great putting green and the Deli serves very good food, including fresh smoked BBQ. I would play it every day if I could. While it may be a little short from the tips for a (very) few people, it remains a challenging track. It is generally is such good condition each year the course have been selected to hold regional junior and qualifying events. That tells you something. read more
