I've dealt with Mr. Key, the owner of Merrifield Golf, for many years. I have always found his products and services to be first rate. And again today he came through. I took a putter in that had had the grip put on just a little out of line with the putter head. This was done at the golf course where I work part-time. I took the putter in to Mr. Key (should have gone to him in the first place, but it was convenient to have it done where I work). In 5 minutes, he saved the new grip and reinstalled it. FACTS: Merrifield Golf was the first shop in NoVa to carry the Super Stroke fat grips for putters everyone uses these days thanks to the stores friendship with KJ Choi. I know this cus everybody was asking me back in 2013 where the hell I got mine. I find Merrifield to be a comfortable atmosphere w/ knowledgeable staff for fittings or modifications - def more laid back than Golfdom or Golf Galaxy. Sadly....I've lived my entire life in NOVA area, and despite Merrifield Golf being there for 27 years, I never stopped in......until recently I bought a used 60-degree lob wedge that matched my set of irons, but the lob wedge had a steel shaft and my irons are graphite shafts. I could never get the feel of the steel shafted lob wedge so I wanted to have it reshafted with w a graphite shaft. Didn't want to pay a lot for the shaft, since it was a used clubhead, and if I was to go with an expensive shaft, I might as well by a new Cleveland CBX2 lob wedge for the same price, better head, better technology. My lesson pro told me it wasn't possible to change the shaft....but it's the same head used in my graphite shaft irons, so not sure why he said that... So, I checked with Merrifield Golf via phone call, and the owner said he could re-shaft the lob wedge. So I ventured over to Merrifield Golf and met the delightful and most accommodating owner, Mr KIm. He showed me some options, and I went w the least expensive, based on my reasoning above. Two Days Later, I picked up my lob wedge w a new shaft and grip.....PERFECT.....and I now hit it great....SUCCESS!!! After that experience......I needed to have my entire iron set, 10 clubs, re-gripped w Golf Pride Tour Wrap grips.....gave Mr Kim a call and he said he could do them, about a two day turn around. So headed over, Mr Kim checked me for the right grip size, I needed mid-size & the existing grips were standard size.....and TWO DAYS LATER, my clubs were ready AS PROMISED. Talked to Mr KIm about a new set of irons down the road, next year maybe, and he said he would take care of me, fitting and everything. The new grips are AWESOME and a High Quality job done on the regripping. CUSTOMER SERVICE by Mr Kim was EXCEPTIONAL. As someone else said.....Merrifield Golf/Mr Kim is a Diamond in the Rough.....so much better than the big box golf stores, w their less than helpful customer service, always seem to act like they are doing me a favor waiting/helping me... Merrifield Golf is a diamond in the golf rough of the DMV area. We have a few super stores (service is generally terrible) and some high-end golf fitters (that charge way too much for a golf beginner). Merrifield is the Goldilocks of the area. I met with George for a fitting and he worked with me for well over an hour. Dissecting my swing and determining the type of club, lie, shaft, and length that works for me. He even made recommendations on clubs but never pressed me to buy from Merrifield (as a beginner I was looking for a used set). On George is recommendation I've recently purchased a great used set of irons and a driver. I'm heading back to Merrifield to have the clubs fit and gripped. I'd recommend any golfer in the area to go see George and the folks at Merrifield. They literally restored my faith in good customer service. read more

I went in yesterday to get my irons' lie angles changed and immediately was assisted by the store manager/club fitter George Huff. We talked about some of the options I had and it was great to hear some suggestions from a knowledgeable staff member. We quickly did a static fit for lie angle change (not a replacement for dynamic fitting or impact tape). Dropped the clubs off for the bending and a wedge for regroup around lunch time and they ready to be picked up later that day. The lie angles look much better now. Prices are very reasonable and the customer service was great. I'll be back here for any more club services. Support your local businesses! read more

I wanted to see if my current irons could be improved upon and also wanted to see if my driver was setup properly and if any of the tech was worth an upgrade. Background : I am about a 10 handicap and know my distances and launch numbers pretty well. I know 80% of how to do a proper club fitting. I met with George who was great. He understood what I was looking to do and started off by measuring my current irons and watching me hit some shots. (Props to MG because their launch monitor isn't juiced up like a lot of the big box stores. Always bring your current bag to compare.) we found that my numbers overall were good, spin was a little low. He found that my irons were weighted to E0. He said that is extremely heavy and he wasn't sure how I was able to swing with decent speed. (I had the clubs fitted at Golfsmith). He said the shaft was rated a little less stiff then it normally runs so it was probably stepped down which was good for my swing. He said we could basically get the proper shafts and weighting and it would seem like a whole new set. I told him I was interested in hitting some different irons because I wanted to move into a player iron vs the game improvement ones that I had. We hit a few and I came away with a new set of Mizuno Mp25 +3/4" 2* upright and 2* stronger loft since I was hitting it slightly higher than I wanted. I had much better dispersion and a little more distance. The feel was so smooth. We then moved on to my driver which I hit pretty efficiently. We tried the new TM M2 and was getting worse numbers. We then tried one of the new Titleists and I hit it very well. Slightly more consistent than my new driver, a few more yards but nothing earth shattering. George told me to keep mine in my bag. Not too much I can do to get better numbers. I then checked out the putters and walked away with a new TM Spyder with the super stroke pistol grip. I hit this so straight it isn't even funny. Overall great experience. George knows his stuff and is not a sales person. He will tell you what you need and give you different combos to fit your budget or even just test out your current irons My only suggestion would be that they include the fitting cost into your new irons if you buy from them. George helped me out a bit on the fitting cost but I think that would be a better customer experience. This way if someone is going to buy the irons elsewhere, they pay the fitting fee, if they buy from MG then the cost can go into the club cost. Just my two cents but I have no idea if George is paid on fitting fees or what so I'm sure there is a reason why they don't do that. Come here. Get what you want. read more

Went in there this morning, a customer was being fitted for a driver. After watching the customer hook every driver given to him , I had enough a walked out. Just fix the hook and save the guy some money. Only outcome I saw was he could hook it further. read more

Well, I might as well echo all the others. Went in to buy a set of clubs for my wife and met with George. He is everything others have noted. Extremely knowledgeable and very helpful. My wife is a beginner but he treated her like she was getting fitted for a pro tour. For over an hour we hit balls on their digital range to find the perfect clubs. I was impressed that before we even started looking at clubs George asked about our budget, and even when we noted no budget constraints, his focus was still about the best clubs, not the most expensive. No pressure, just expert advice and some on the spot advice to improve my wife's swing. Thier prices are very competitive, and when you take into consideration the service are downright cheap.
