Last August, I made a deal with Ivan Hernandez to do repairs on our pergola. I had the replacement beams delivered and i had primed and painted them On the agreed to day that he was going to start work, he came with 2 of his workmen. He then proceeded to tell me that he wanted more money for the job. He had his guys look at the top of the pergola again, and told me that he found more areas that needed work. He then told me that there might be some more areas needing work that were not yet visible, and he wanted me to commit to paying extra for every spot they found. I told him that I wanted him to stick to what had been agreed, and he told me I could take it or he and his crew would leave. I've encountered this kind of ploy before, and just wanting the job done, it's easy to just say yes. I told, to his dismay, ''no,' and he promptly left. We had agreed to about $2,000 for the job. After he left, I did what I probably should have done in the first place: got out a ladder and inspected the beams. Areas that he said needed a lot of work were either fine, or the areas needing work were far smaller than he told me. I had another contractor look at the job. For $600, he did all the work needed (I inspected it as he did it and when he was done). It was a great job. It is my opinion that Hernandez acted in an unethical and shoddy way, attempted to be exploitive and I'm willing to wager the work he would have done would not have been too good, since he - correctly - figured that I would have trusted him and not inspected it. This is, of course, a guess on my part. I would be highly reluctant to hire Hernandez Roofing, even if there is a written agreement, based on my experience. read more

Hernandez Roofing installed a full re-lay of our entire roof (after the initial contractor did not inspect his roofing company's work, leaving 15 years of poor workmanship to become a major failure impacting other parts of our home.) I called on Friday because we had a leak in our master closet. Angel came to our house, gave us an estimate on the spot. To my astonishment, he said we could be out to your house to repair your roof on Monday. Punctuality is high on my list of requirements for a positive review. Angel and his crew were at our house ready to go to work at 7am Monday. It was discovered, that the roof on that side, had wood with dry rot that entirely had to be removed. Angel had the flashing and wood changed and doubled the paper to make sure the new roof would last a long time. The work was completed and finished @7pm. Angel said, because of the coming rain, we will work until the new roof is finished perfectly. We bought our house earlier this year and we knew we needed a new roof. We had 6 roofers come out to give an estimate, 2 never actually sent an estimate, of the remaining Hernandez wasn't the cheapest or the most expensive but in the middle of the pack but they made the best impression. They showed up on time for the estimate appointment. They weren't pushy and gave a detailed break down of the scope of work. We did know the roof was in rough shape and that there would most likely be unknowns once the old roof came off. Once we signed them to do the work, they actually asked if they could start a couple days earlier since one of their other jobs had finished quicker. Not going to say no to work starting early. Every day they sent us update pictures (we weren't moved in yet) and let us know the status of the work. In the end there was substantial replacement of ply and joists that needed to be done and they took detailed pictures to show us what was needed where. Outstanding in Every Way We got a number of quotes on re-doing our roof and then heard about Hernandez from a painter we had working on our kitchen. The company is run by the two sons who've taken over the work from their dad. The two boys could not have been more friendly or communicative, keeping us informed all the way through the process. I sent Raul a home inspection report which included drone photographs of my roof and he responded saying that he would need to look in person, but that he suspected that the underlayment was probably not the cause of the three leaks we had found. Raul was able to repair my tile roof for way less than the other estimates that I received ( only $1850). He got the job done in two visits. When this company left my home on the first day, it looked like a bomb blew up in my house. The entire house was filled with roofing debris. When they were removing the roof, they could see inside. That is when they should have put a tarp down. It is now six days later and I am still cleaning. I have never seen such poor demonstration of customer service. They said they would help me clean up.
