What I got was all of that plus a biological weapons incident in the men's restroom. The hike up the wooded hill was lovely. Trees? Beautiful. Scenery? Gorgeous. Birds? Probably having a fantastic day. I made my way inside the facilities, and within approximately three seconds my eyes began watering and my nose started filing a formal complaint. The combination of B.O. and B.M. was so powerful that I'm fairly certain the air itself had become a solid. Thankfully, the bathroom was actually pretty decent once I got past the atmospheric conditions. The stall was mostly clean. There was plenty of toilet paper. The toilet itself performed admirably. The real problem is that there appears to be zero ventilation whatsoever. Whatever smells previous visitors leave behind simply remain there, marinating beneath the fluorescent lights like some kind of Appalachian sourdough starter. And here's the kicker, I walked back outside, inhaled deeply, and thought I was finally safe. Then the wind changed direction. The exact same smell came floating through the trees and followed me back down the trail. Despite this, I still love the park. It's beautiful, nostalgic, and a great place for families. The kids were playing, the scenery was peaceful, and the whole place reminded me of childhood weekends spent outdoors. I just have one modest suggestion for park management: Please install a plug-in air freshener or two.

Negatives were all of the litter as well as the teens (after the high school across the street let out, they flicked to the park in large numbers) that were loudly fighting and swearing at each other at the restrooms next to the playground. I support and applaud them using a public space instead of getting into trouble elsewhere, but wish they would go to the other side of the park away from the playground swarming with young kids if they are going to fight and cuss. The women's restroom was out of order, which was also a bummer. We will definitely be back here whenever we visit Ellijay . We will just go well before school dismissal. :-)

The layout is unique and challenging without ever becoming frustrating, and I genuinely loved playing it. Unfortunately, there were some major operational issues. The biggest was the complete lack of water or refreshments on a day when the heat index reached 109 degrees. There was no water available anywhere on the course, no cart service, the snack bar was closed, and all three bathhouses had their water turned off. In that kind of heat, having absolutely no access to water on the course is unacceptable and potentially dangerous. The other major issue was the lack of starters and rangers. We discovered that a group with a tee time after ours had simply gone out ahead of us. There didn't seem to be anyone controlling the order, so people essentially went whenever they wanted. The round ended up taking almost five hours, and despite one group noticeably holding everyone up, there wasn't a single ranger on the course to address the pace of play. It's frustrating because the golf course itself is outstanding. I loved the layout and would absolutely play it again, especially considering the price. But a course this good deserves much better management. With basic amenities, a starter, and someone monitoring pace of play, this could easily be one of the best golf experiences in Georgia.

I had the pleasure of visiting Paradise Gardens when The Reverend was still alive and even got to sign his casket he hand painted which was on display at the time for all to see. An "outsider artist" not to be confused with folk artists he is completely untrained. Yes his REM album cover shot him to a lot of fame and he did another album cover maybe the B 52s? I believe it was an Athens GA based band. And his famous coca cola art and has others have referenced he has a permanent display at the High Museum in ATL. So not too shabby! The gardens are stunning in their down to home feel and do with what you have mentality which strikes a very stark contrast with his signage all done in capital print about how specifically stole what piece of art or to look out for (insert children's names) who will copy his art and claim it at their own. This place is a must see. I didn't have the pleasure of actually meeting Howard. The time there was wonderful and his home (not open to the public at that time) was humble. I bought a piece of his art which I still treasure and delight in his simplified messages of good and evil in his outsider art. God put it on his heart to do a certain number of pieces before dying and I think he suppasssed the number producing something like 20+ thousand works. All signed and with his personal icon of a dove with a branch in it's mouth. I saw a YouTube of him dancing and singing on a late night show in the 80s or 90s. Howard was full of life, full of the Lord and full of himself. A larger than life figure.
