Front room of the motel entrance

Not bad if it's 2am and you need to get some sleep. The room was clean, bed comfortable and shower pressure was good. The AC wouldn't stay on and was very noisy. The free breakfast would have been ok except they didn't provide any non-stick spray for the waffle so it stuck to the waffle iron and I couldn't get it out. They had an assortment of cereal, OJ, apple juice, toast, muffins and then the waffles. The overall feel they are going for really is trying to stick true to this old heritage feel. The one guy we saw when checking in at 2am and checking out at 9am was friendly enough. Cost for 2 people in a room with 2 queen beds was $80. Not bad for a comfy night sleep. Just your average roadside motel.

This is the dirty cover from the bed, sheets are the same, the bed is almost made and same sheets

Valley Motel - Your towel rack... with two tiny, threadbare, rough towels, and two similarly threadbare washcloths... Good luck getting dry with just one.

So, I understand that stopping in a small burg along the road isn't liable to get you the fanciest…read moreaccommodations, but YIKES. It's pretty clear the owners aren't bothering to take care of this place or even properly clean it between guests. Which is extra gross and disturbing with COVID-19. Where to even begin? The room smelled like cigarette smoke when we entered. I immediately noticed the rough carpet was dirty... especially near the edges along the wall. I found several dead flies on the carpet and in the window sill, which was coated with grime. The sheets... might have been clean. I pulled them open to find a stain of some kind... They were thin. The mattress was hard. It took me a long time to get to sleep and I felt very stiff in the morning. The towels were threadbare and rough and very small. Good luck getting dry with just one. They only supplied two of each (towel, hand towel, and washcloth) in a double queen room, so I guess you better be down to share. The bathroom was serviceable; I was able to get warm water for a shower, but the shower head was very low. I mean VERY LOW. I am 5'3" and I was looking it dead in the eye. Crazy. I've heard about tall people having this problem; never expected to encounter it myself, LOL. Also had to fix the chain in the toilet tank to prevent the dreaded "eternal flush." The sink... was not in the bathroom. It's in the main room, with the carpeting. Flow was terrible from it, obviously deposits had formed. Only two lightbulbs were screwed in... the other socket was just left empty. Frighteningly, a clothes rack/shelf was mounted above the table and two chairs, very poorly. I do not believe it would have supported weight over ten pounds and I wouldn't even try that much because it was practically dangling from the wall. You could see the screws unthreading from the side. Did I mention it also had some random nails sticking out? We did not try the TV or microwave, but the mini fridge worked okay. Most of the electrical sockets are too loose to use. I was able to find only one that would charge my phone overnight. :( Honestly, the only thing this place had going for it at all was the free Wi-Fi. That and being nearby a McDonald's so I could get breakfast (they did not provide any, but even if they did, I hella would not trust that).

For a regular 2 star hotel this place was emaculate. The bathroom was clean, sheets were fresh, and…read morethe bedspread choice was beautiful. Have stayed in small roadside motels a lot while traveling and this was the best I have stayed in for some time. The location is quiet and the family owners are very friendly. Sorry I didn't take pics, was tired when I rolled in.

There aren't too many hotels in Portales, but I would say that Super 8 is one of the better ones…read more The hotels Holiday Inn and Super 8 are located close to one another on 2nd St. Since many out-of-town students were arriving during the same time frame as us, my friend booked a room with two queens fairly early on before our actual stay. We arrived pretty late in the evening, but were able to check in and head up to the room without any problems. There's parking all along the outside of the hotel. Super 8 isn't as fancy as Holiday Inn, but it gets the job down and feels pretty secure and safe. There are stairs inside that lead to the rooms. For the room: -Clean and spacious -Bedsheets are a bit old-fashion -Lighting is quite yellow -Microwave and mini fridge inside the room -Lots of outlets to allow for charging of devices -Wi-Fi was pretty fast as well -Bed was on the stiffer side, but pillows had good fluffiness to them -AC/heater worked well Bathroom: -Bathroom definitely showed wear and tear; could see cracks on the hardwood floor -Toilet and sink area were clean -Towels were soft enough and clean -Some cracks in the tub area, but shower area was clean As for the breakfast - they serve continental breakfast every morning. I thought the assortment was pretty decent! They have bread and pastries, cereal, and fruit. I was most impressed by the waffle machine - fluffy waffles that weren't too sweet. I also thought the coffee had good flavor and kept us awake while we went back to campus for presentations. I did get to check out my friend's room at the Holiday Inn, and if prices are pretty similar - I'd go with Holiday Inn; however, Super 8 is not bad at all and if you're needing a decent room for a good night's rest, I'd definitely recommend it. The workers that helped us were friendly and nice - and they had Starbursts at the front desk! Good stay for several nights in Portales.

I was a little hesitant about our stay but was really blown away by the customer service. The gentleman at the front desk when we checked in was awesome. He called to make sure we were still coming as it was almost 7 and we had not checked in. He also called the room after check in to ask if the room was satisfactory. Five stars for the service. We were on the first floor. We could hear everything that was going on in the hall, including the calls the front desk received. We could also hear the people upstairs walking but it wasn't terrible. We were able to fall asleep without any issues. I did hear one call where someone was asking about something they left...they found the person's ring. That's always great when you leave things behind and the hotel actually gets it back to you.
