Having made ice cream homemade as a small business myself, I always have high standards regarding frozen treats. Was looking forward to trying what Waco has to offer in terms of local creameries. I was looking forward to the dark chocolate but was sad to see it's been sold out for a while so I went with the classic cookies n cream. Upon first bite, there's a lot of tiny ice crystals and the milk fat felt a lot lower than I expected, almost like skim milk is used. There wasn't much "body" in the ice cream. Maybe it wasn't a good batch but there was plenty left in the bucket in the dipping cabinet. Based on the appearance of the dipping cabinet buckets, I could see a lot of air pockets so I knew it wasn't going to be dense and packed. Overall, maybe I'll try it again if they have Cookie Crumble or Dark Chocolate in stock again. read more

I happened to be in Plano over the weekend for a conference so since I came this far, I hopped on a bus and scheduled myself for less than 24 hours in Waco! I didn't realize that the #Magnolia properties are closed on Sunday, so I found other fun ways to get the Waco hospitality from the moment I arrived. I was actually glad that I got to see the town for what it is a few days before people traveled there from all over for #Silobration. I look forward to returning to Waco for a longer visit! I found this gem while on a Waco City Tour. They gave the tour participants the choice of coffee or ice cream and we unanimously chose ice cream. This place is so charming and their ice cream is so delicious, I will always return whenever I come back to Waco. I chose a small scoop and that was the perfect amount. While visiting Texas, I had to choose the Brown Butter TX pecan flavor. Having just said that the small was the perfect size, the next time I go back I will probably double up so that I can try more flavors since I don't get there that often. After we got our ice cream we did walk next door to the coffee shop which instantly made me wish I were in college at Baylor because what a cool yard to sit and gather with friends, study, or catch a show! This is a must stop in Waco. Cute little space close to Baylor, always nice employees and just excellent, creamy, simple ingredients, ice cream. Brown Butter TX Pecan is my favorite, but last time I had Rosemary Honey Ricotta and it was great as well (you have to love rosemary!) Their cones are delicious as well, but if they don't offer you a cup then ask because they always fall apart. Doesn't matter, they are worth it. read more

Great pit stop on my drive from Austin to Dallas. Got the salted caramel and the grapefruit and honey ice creams in a cone. The salted caramel was phenomenal, rich, sweet, and creamy. The grapefruit was a little bitter (especially compared to the caramel) and could've used more honey but still refreshing and good. The cone was delicious but very thin and brittle. I usually get my ice cream in a cup but couldn't resist the fresh homemade cones, and it was worth it. Server was friendly and efficient despite working alone and there being a line. Plenty of tables open to sit down and enjoy the ice cream. I probably won't find myself in Waco anytime soon, but if I do, I would definitely return. Accidentally drove past the parking lot in the back but parked in the Baylor parking structure next door and walked over and didn't get a ticket, so idk if that is allowed or not, but it worked for me. read more

A highlight of our time in Waco. Most things close in Waco on a Sunday, so this was our big activity Sunday after dinner. The employees were all very friendly and warm Baylor students. We felt most welcome and not rushed at all as we tried 5 or 6 samples. My wife noticed the chocolate chip cookies. So she got one on top of her cookie stratiatella ice cream. I returned to the counter and bought three more chocolate chip cookies to go. I had the waffle cone and the rye, and brown butter pecan flavors of ice cream. Just really fresh ingredients. But the waffle cone stood out and was soft and the highlight of my whole cone. Definitely worth a visit if you are stopping in Waco for Magnolia. read more

Talk about a fun college town! Baylor U. houses some really fun places near their campus, and Heritage being one of them. In these COVID-19 days where social distancing is really important, I appreciated that the ice cream shop was clean and spacious compared to some ice cream shops. There were plenty of seating and the staff were all super friendly. Note to those who are sticklers of COVID safety guidelines, I noticed that the staff were not wearing gloves when handling the ice cream and homemade waffle cones! They do make their waffle cones fresh in house!...and several batches at a time!! They are so light and crispy that they often break apart easily, so handle with care! IMO, it was a bit too thin for my liking, but I still really liked it. I will say their ice cream is less creamy, milky based, and more water based. It offered a lighter, more refreshing taste...but weirdly, it left a waxy after taste in your mouth. Nonetheless, it was a refreshing treat after a long day of shopping in Waco! read more

We pulled up to this beautiful little ice cream shop, famous among coworkers and friends for producing delicious and inventive flavors of ice cream. The flavors did not disappoint! And the young man that helped us out was a joy! He gave us some pretty awesome history of the place for a bit before our 6 year old interrupted him, asking whether they had vanilla. :D We sampled nearly every flavor; and with 5 people in our group, we ended up with cones and cups of: brown butter pecan, strawberry balsamic, cowboy coffee, rosemary honey ricotta, mojito, salted caramel, and sweet cream with chocolate chips. All of the flavors were delicious, but I REALLY enjoyed mine: the rosemary honey ricotta and the cowboy coffee. The only thing: the fresh crisp warm cones began to fail before I made it past my top scoop, so I had to quickly glean my husband's empty cup. So I would recommend placing a cone on top of your scoops in a cup. :D read more
