I would say the term "bull in a china shop" seems about right. Kevin sent me a mailer for an inspection ($325) as my newly purchased home was coming up on the end of its one-year warranty. He was very responsive to scheduling by email and flexible with dates when I needed to reschedule. He did help me to identify some things that might be covered under the warranty, which I can now ask the builder to fix. But when he arrived it felt like he barreled through my home without respect for the fact that we are currently living here. And he ended up causing moderate damage to the paint on my bathroom door. If the builder fixes things he found on the inspection for free, maybe it will all have been worth it... read more

I recently had a home inspected by Hergert Inspection. My agent said that most people don't do inspections on new homes from reputable builders, but still recommended that I do one. I'm so glad I did. The house received its occupancy from the county and was very well built, but Kevin still observed numerous issues that I would never have discovered on my own. It was a small investment compared to the headache we avoided. My agent and I were present during the inspection. Both of us, especially my agent, were very impressed with his thoroughness. Kevin was amazing and very flexible. I need him on a Friday, called him on a Wednesday, and he made room in his schedule for me. The home is a fixer-upper and was built in 1925 so it needed some real expertise. Kevin has previous construction experience which drew me to him. I needed some help estimating what things may cost since the seller was selling the house 'as is' and I would have to bear all repair costs. I couldn't have asked for a better inspection. He was a tad more expensive at $525 than others, but I think it was worth it. He was also very "human" and easy to talk to. He had practical experience and didn't just recite things "out of a book". If I could give him zero stars, I would. At first when Kevin came over, I was very happy with him. He seemed to be very thorough, and answered all of my questions. 5 months after I bought my home, I had electrical, appliance, and roof problems. All of the contractors who came out and looked at the problems on my house said an inspector should have easily seen all of these problems, and should have told me not to buy this house. All of the roofing contractors had me come up on the roof just to see how evident the replacement of the entire roof was, as their feet were sinking into the roof because it was so damaged. I called several attorneys, but unfortunately home inspectors are completely protected under Washington State law. Although he seemed thorough at the time, he was EXTREMELY NEGLIGENT, and I would warn people to STAY far far far far far far far far AWAY from him. read more

I regret to leave this review, but I hope that by doing so, I might save another homeowner some grief. Like another reviewer here, I have cause to doubt the thoroughness of the job this inspector did on our home purchase. We bought our home in 2014. Since then, we have spent upwards of $60,000 in repairs on this house, and would have spent more if we hadn't been extremely lucky in our contractor, who felt sorry for us. We've lost count of the people who have told us, "wow, your inspector should have caught that." It's been a learning experience, at least, but a very, very expensive one. read more

We contacted Kevin off of an agent referral and were incredibly glad we did. We are trying to close on a fairly tight timeline and he was able to fit us in on short notice around his other appointments. He spent a solid two hours investigating everything in, on, around and under the house. His report was very thorough, included pictures that showed everything he was commenting on, including thermal imaging that tested both the heating and cooling functions of the house. His comments helped us prepare a list of high-priority items we want the seller to fix and identify other issues we are content to fix or improve ourselves given our plans for the home. Most important, given how much issue we have in the NW with water and mold, his inspection of proper venting, leakage and drainage was very thorough and once a single item is fixed we will be very confident that the home will be a safe and healthy place to live (with proper maintenance of course). Kevin left us feeling like we wrote a check for someone to come out to our potential new home and lie to us. We knew there was a mold abatement to be done and water damage to the roof and walls, but got no information about the cross-wired electrical panels, the lack of water pressure, the incorrectly connected and reverse sloped drain pipes, the detached HVAC runs, or the huge issue with the foundation perimeter not being sealed up against rodent intrusion. Kevin did a home inspection for us a couple months ago. He performed a thorough inspection, and was sure to answer any questions we had. Being that we are first-time home buyers, Kevin was sure to inform us of any maintenance information regarding the furnace, the air conditioner, and even the hardwood floors! He often told us information, prior to us prompting him with questions. Since the home did not have many problems, the inspection report was emailed to us later that day. The report was comprehensive, and easy to understand. Kevin utilizes thermal imaging, which told us that one of the windows of the home had possibly failed.
