So Hubbers and I decided to give this place another shot. Being it a cold on-and-off cold weekend, it was no trouble finding a parking spot (they were all available, actually) by the school and entry to the dog park. (We figure not a lot of people may come due to the climate.) It is a nice walk going to the park itself. There's a trail that takes you over a small creek and in between large trees which, I thought, was a great "entry way." There were two separate areas (which weren't properly labeled, or at least I didn't see any labels) so I assumed one is for small dogs and the other for bigger dogs. Since we were the only ones there, we got to take our pick. My pup loved it. I loved it. Everything was clean and green. There are some debris (long dried leaves - I'm assuming they were all from the surrounding trees) which were deliberately swept to the side, possibly for pick-up/cleaning later. There are water fountains available for both humans and puppies alike. There are park benches and tables available in case a dog park visit turns into a picnic. We all had a great time. It is now a must-stop for us. Can't wait for the next visit! read more

It's lovely! Our first time visiting. Normally we go to the Pinole Dog Park, but an @sshole driver wouldn't let me exit on Pinole Valle Road, so we continued up I-80 E to Hercules. It's really nice! Large area for the small dogs. Clean with plenty of benches and green grass. I'm actually glad the driver cut me off. We'll be back! One thing to note: the small dog and large dog sections are adjacent, separated by a wire fence. My dog started barking at the dogs in the large dog section, and we had to leave. read more

This place is gross! I'd say the only positive thing about it is there aren't many people or dogs (even on a Sunday afternoon) so it's an OK choice for introducing your fur babies to an uncrowded off-leash area for the first time, but don't expect much more than that. I have 2 mediumish dogs (both under 30lbs) and we were in the small dog area. While there, I met a woman who frequents the park quite often. Based on my visit and conversation with her, this was my experience: The PROs: There are 2 separate fenced areas (small and large dog areas), benches, a BBQ grill, tables, water fountains for both pets and humans, a double-fenced area at the entrance to protect dogs when entering/exiting, and a couple of places to sit inside the fenced parks. The CONs: Inside the small dog area, there are fox tails E V E R Y W H E R E. The grass/grounds don't appear to be maintained. Tall weeds, gopher holes abound, flies and gnats everywhere, etc. Initially, I was a bit apprehensive about entering, but decided to get it a shot if only for a short while. The gopher holes in the ground make it a bit challenging to run with your dogs, so be careful; I almost twisted my ankle. And, make sure you shake down your dogs before putting them back in the car checking for fox tails and bugs. There were a few FTs throughout the coat of my youngest pup that I made sure to remove before we left. And to be honest, I felt really gross by the time we got back in the car because of all the bugs that came flying up from the weeds as you're walking/running/playing. My goodness, we couldn't have left any sooner. P.S. The woman I met said the play areas aren't really determined by the dogs' size. The regulars that utilize the park usually determine which side to used based on the dog's temperament/activity preference (i.e. active dogs that want to run and play use the large dog area, and, the dogs that want to chill and not be bothered with "playing" use the small dog area REGARDLESS OF THE DOG'S size.) I found that a bit odd, but to each their own. read more

Yesterday was the first time Miley's gone to any dog park and had a good ol' time. This is also her after another trip to the park this morning. What I love about this place is that the owners we have met so far are super nice and watch closely over their dogs. My dog isn't fixed yet but has already had two male dogs trying to hump her. Luckily, the owners are SUPER attentive to their boys and pull them right off of my pup. This park may not be the nicest, but Miley enjoys the others dogs and owners there! read more

Great park. Not huge but well kept and very nice and relaxing. Can tell some effort was put into the landscape. We have a 65lb coonhound and he had a blast. Is nice at sunset. Bottom line is it's nice the city puts effort into making any dog park at all so we are happy with it. But the poop bag dispenser was empty in both the large and small sections of the park. STAY AWAY! Came around the corner to a lady and her 3 large dogs, first thing she says is, my dogs don't do well with other dogs. Ummm, why are you at the "dog" park? She could barely control all 3 on leashes. Then another lady with 2 dogs in the large dog park one husky, one mix tan says if your coming in I'm going out, my dogs don't play well with others, but you can go in the small dog area nobody's in there. WTH? Why are these people at the dog park with dogs that don't do well with other's? People go to dog parks so dogs can socialize or learn to socialize. Bad experience, plus no other dogs were there except ones that don't play well with other's. Beware! Go to Pinole Dog Park, much friendlier people there. read more

It was nice before but now there are only weeds. One of my dogs won't leave the gravel path because he gets stuff stuck in his paws. The last few times I was there, there weren't any doggy bags. I live right up the street and it is a shame I have to drive to Pinole. Hercules, please keep up the dog park, get volunteers to help if you need to! So sad. read more

I am updating my review because while the scenary is beautiful, there are never any poop bags available in the poop stations and there are fox tails everywhere! Need better maintenence and stronger fencing, the wire is bending between small and large dog sections and I'm worried someone could get hurt. read more

Awesome park that's not too big and not too small. The big dog side had a bunch of trees so I took my three dogs (sheltie, shih tzu, and my current dog in training, shepherd mix) to the small dog area. Nice open field. Some "grass" but mostly mud and weeds. Not bad for dogs that like to run. Soft on their paws! Water station was nice and all the "furniture" was still in great condition. No poop bags so bring your own. You'll most likely be the only ones at the park. Good for one on one exercise if you don't have a big yard. read more

Been here a few times recently. Since the thumb tack incident this park has seemed neglected. They don't mow the grass enough. Lots of fox-tail barb weeds that get stuck all in my dogs paws and mouth. She's even got a couple ticks from this park. No poop bags and people aren't picking up their dogs poop. It's a shame that this park seems to be going down hill. read more

Spacious, lots of shade, several picnic tables inside and outside of the dog runs, nice landscaping, a decent sized hill for dogs who like to climb, water fountain for you and a lower one for your doggy friend, lots of trash cans around and a pet waste station inside the dog run, there's a training hoop and even a fire hydrant. I've yet to come across any trash or pet waste on the ground, there is a lot of bamboo shedding off of the trees everywhere but it actually helps when it's wet and muddy. Not crowded at all and everyone I've come across has been very nice. My only complaint is that there haven't been any waste pick-up bags in the dispenser when I've come. read more

I am a Hercules resident and was very excited upon hearing of the opening of a dog park in Hercules. I attended the grand opening this summer and yes the big dog and little dog parks are spacious and beautiful. However, there is no grass and plenty of foxtails. My dogs were covered with foxtails (from head to paws). If you go to the park please remember to check for foxtails which can be very painful. Because of the foxtails I haven't been back to the park...I hope the city puts grass instead. read more

Been here several times with my German Shepherd. Very quiet park, too quiet for us unfortunately. Weekends or weekdays, we have been the only ones here. Nice park set up with two sizeable dog areas for small and large dogs. It is behind the trees and quiet though a little too secluded for my comfort if I didn't have a huge dog as a deterrent. Great for training but not great if you have a companionship seeking dog who wants to play. read more

I took my dog here twice in the afternoons but both time there were just a couple of other dogs around. The place is small for a dog park, feels like a size of my backyard,and it is sitting in a gloomy ditch. Good if you live around here and really have nowhere else to take your dog to. Otherwise drive a little further to Point Isabel or Martinez for better experience. The city of Hercules can probably carve some vacated land near the beach for a new dog park instead of have its residents come to this shady one. read more

Perfect for easy training as rarely a lot of dogs here. Good for 'distraction' training your fur baby. Also the regulars that come generally have their dogs under control and are very friendly. It is nice because it is not over run or highly populated. Enough for dogs to run around and have fun, socialize if they can and stretch their legs. I think the dog park is a great idea for those how use them, but for those who choose not too is a shame; these are the same dog lovers who allow their dogs to use neighbors lawns as pee and poop depository's. I loved this park. Yeah there are weeds, but there are worse weeds and not much grass on the street where I live so this was definitely a plus. There are beautiful eucalyptus trees stacked near by and it encloses you in a grassy environment with a hill on the other side that blocks views of traffic. There's two sections and a picnic area, and one downside is some construction going on at a school next door. other than that, I am a fan, and I'm going back again with my two dogs. Three dogs per owner is the limit, fyi. read more

Both my dogs got fleas here and I had to put flea collars and give medical attention because it was so bad and I felt really bad because My dog and I had to stop going and she really loved it there and I liked it to because it was nice and shady and in a nice spot. read more
