I've been a longtime customer of this hatter and have had positive experiences here in the past, which is why today's visit was so disappointing. I brought in a Rockin' C wool felt hat to have it shaped. The female hatter who assisted me was dismissive and condescending, stating that the hat "could not be shaped with steam," and adding that "it's unfortunate that some people are just uneducated about hats." This was said in a way that felt unnecessary and unprofessional. While I fully understand that not all hatters choose to work on wool felt hats -- and that results can vary -- there is a respectful way to communicate that. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case here. I was also told I could leave the hat for the weekend "to see," as there were two men ahead of me, which felt dismissive given my prior history with the shop. I've brought higher-end hats here before and was treated very differently, so the inconsistency in service was disappointing. Craftsmanship is important, but so is customer respect. Santa brought my boy a nice Resistol 7X - called Herb's to check if they would shape it for him - the lady on the other end of the phone said yes for $50 - okay - not that far of a drive west of Fredericksburg - made a trip of it - next door is a nice food place - went in after - busy - a guy finally asks if we need help - yes, just to get a hat shaped - he looks at it - rolls it around in his hands - asks if we got it there - no - "can you leave it?" - no - "you can come back next Tuesday if you want"... read more

Service was well below par. My wife and I walked in and they were finishing up with a customer. We waited patiently as they were finishing up. One of the workers started asking questions as to what we were looking for, I gave her an idea. We thought she was going to start pulling some hats out but then a new set of customers walked in and she dropped everything to start providing them service. Amazing service. Came in on a Wednesday and Tatum had a quick turnaround to have it returned back. She went in to every detail on how I would like my hat shaped. Tatum also showed me the huge selection of hats to choose from as well. read more

Was back at Herb's Hat Shop in Blanco, Texas this morning for a fitting with the one and only Trent Johnson of Greeley Hat Works. The crew at Blanco rolled out the red carpet and the vibe was just right on this cool morning. Fun was had, hats were ordered, tall tales were told. A little confused how to get service as the shop was busy but once the crew freed up we were off making our selections and customizations! I love all the questions that were asked about price, color, style, personal preferences.. this was my first hat and I'm so glad I was walked through the process with real care. They had a great selection of colors and whether you wanted felt or straw they could work the style you are looking for. Very happy with my heart shaped hat and my husband loved his black hat! I stopped by here and drove all the way from San Antonio form the other Herbs ajar shop in South East SA to get a hat I wanted. The team here is great, very friendly, helpful and helped get me into the 100x silver belly hat I wanted. They took the time to properly shape the hat and while there, they have free beer and locals hangout and just talked about the local stuff. If you are looking for a hat shop to get your favorite cowboy hat, this is the place! I drove de San Antonio and if you are in the area, make it a point to stop by. Absolutely phenomenal place to get a hat. My wife and I went in yesterday and the staff was very friendly and treated us very well! Bryan, Daniel, Tatum, and another guy (I didn't get the chance to learn his name before he left) were so kind and we enjoyed the conversation! Daniel did a great job of shaping my bean shaped noggin and they found the color perfect for me. They made a hat that I love and will wear time and time again! Such a great price for a custom hat but even more important the time spent there was wonderful. I will recommend anyone to this hat shop because they really know how to treat people right! These folks know hats! The owner was very attentive with us as we looked for a hat for my husband. She gave us different options and explained each one in detail. Katie then shaped his hat to his liking. They had live music when we were there too. It's a nice small shop close to the main square in Blanco so be sure you are comfortable with being close to others before going. Totally worth going though if you are in the area and in the market for a new hat. It's always worth it to go to a shop where they know what they are doing! Thank you Herb's! My friend discovered Herbs during lunch while searching for local western shops to visit, and we made it a point to stop at Herbs before leaving town. The owner is exceptionally friendly and helpful, and the vibe in his shop is upbeat and positive. My friend is a musician, so it was awesome to see the owner playing guitar with a friend when we arrived. Although my friend didn't end up buying a hat, I found a gorgeous assortment of turkey feathers for just $10 each. Normally these feathers retail for quite a bit more, so it was a great find for me. We're so glad we stopped by Herbs. It was well worth our time to do so. read more

First impression was great. Enjoyed looking at the hats and was excited about bringing my son back the next day for his first felt hat and to top it off my friend, who was taking his senior pictures, to meet us there and take some outside the shop minutes after. A great opportunity to capture the moment and a unique senior picture. Sadly, the excitement ended abruptly. This is a long story and I don't wish to drag it out so I will try to make it short. This is a review and in my opinion, as was my friends, the owner made bad choices. His tone was loud, never apologetic and always had a "one up" for whatever we said. My call to him was to state that I was sad, NOT MAD OR UPSET, just sad, that it did not go a different way because I was excited about the experience with my son and all he did was make excuses, never apologizing. Basically we wanted to take a few pictures outside the store after purchasing the hat at around 5pm. He stated had a photo crew coming in at the same time to take pictures for his advertising and we could not do our pictures. WE ARE TALKING 1 or 2 pictures at the store front for all of 5 minutes. He told us we could do any other day, ok, but we live in Houston so this is a trip for us, his response I am paying for a photographer from another state, there is your "one up you" comment. I will close with exactly what I told him, "I am not made, I am not upset, I am saddened by they way it was handled on his end". This was a simple senior picture of a shop and a hat purchased there to promote the business and a boys first hat, but it has turned into a I will take my business elsewhere. That place is Gruene Hat Company. I actually contacted them, told them what we wanted to do, and they were very accommodating. They took down my name and said they thought it was a great idea and looked forward to meeting us tomorrow. NOW THAT IS CUSTOMER SERVICE! read more
