I am very disappointed with the service we received from Herban Feast. In the end, the wedding was beautiful and that is the only reason I am not leaving 1 star. The venue I got married at required us to rent all of the equipment and HF had been to the venue multiple times and said they would take care of the rental contract with the rental company. We got a sample contract and went over it with them and changed things to suit us then HF would make the changes with the rental company. Months later I went to the rental company to see the place settings in person and they pulled our contract and none of the updates had been made and many of our selections were no longer available so we had to make the changes ourselves. Something HF said they would take care of. Among the many things that had to be changed was glassware. We requested 200 small steins to be added on May 19th. On May 29th, HF confirmed the had updated equipment adds. We got the rental order straight from the rental company on June 24th and there was only 125 on the contract and they didn't have anymore available (photo attached). HF said they would charge us the rates they were paying for rentals plus a % service charge. The rental company sent us a copy of the contract created by HF and everything was cheaper than it was on our contract with HF. So we were paying a ~12% markup AND the service charge. Honestly, we wouldn't have cared about the extra cost had HF actually done what we asked with the rental company. Our coordinator was switched twice. When the changes happened, We had to start from square one each time, sending info we'd already sent. Often HF would only acknowledge one part of an email and we'd have to ask again. We were promised an updated quote by Friday, by Monday we didn't have it and followed up and were assured we would have it by the end of this week. Well, 6 weeks later we finally had the updated quote and it was missing changes (photo attached). They said they were busy with other weddings. The time wouldn't have been a big deal if they were clear about when we would have it. I know they were busy but to be frank, I don't care about the other weddings, I just wanted them to do what they said. Our main coordinator, BJ, seemed arrogant. At our tasting the salmon was raw, like totally translucent and cold. Other than that, the salmon was delicious so we requested it to be fully cooked. BJ told us the salmon was 'northwest style' and no one has ever complained about how it was cooked before, but that they could "overcook it" if that's what we wanted. I've had plenty of salmon and me, not the internet have ever heard of NW style. BJ acted as if we were the uninformed/ignorant ones but I think they made up northwest style to justify raw food. When we finally got the updated quote it was a completely different salmon dish. Changing this took way too many emails but we eventually figured it out. On the day of, everyone is waiting for food and my mom goes to check on it and the salmon is raw. Something we reiterated probably 10 times before the wedding. Now dinner is delayed 45 minutes. We also decided to add a 3rd side. Originally we had 2 sides with 200 servings each. When the 3rd was added, 200 servings were added, total 600 servings. I asked BJ if we needed an additional 200 servings for the same amount of people. He explained that when there's more options, people eat more. Feels like they're just trying to get us to spend more, but makes sense I guess. I then said "You can understand why this doesn't really make sense to me though right?" and he replied that he had no idea why it didn't make sense and he didn't know why I couldn't grasp it. It was very arrogant and condescending. We hired HF because we thought it would save us work but in the end it was much harder and more expensive. On the topic of money, HF was never clear how much we owed them. We had an original payment plan but so many changes were made to the contract so it wasn't accurate. After the event, they reached out and said we still owed a huge amount of money. This was super annoying because we had been asking them how much we owed. We were able to reduce this $ due to the issues explained. And now, for the first time, we received an apology. The apology seemed sincere which was greatly appreciated but it didn't come until after. Day of, the only real issue was dinner being late. Everything else was great. HF pulled it together so I'll give them credit for that. Despite the wonderful day, I would never use HF again because of how difficult they were to work with. HF is extremely expensive and I expected service of the same caliber. I am surprised by the lack of poor reviews for HF so hopefully my event was fluke. I hope my extensive review provides insight to both HF and those looking to hire them about their shortcomings. read more

The entire staff at Herban Feast from Mary to BJ and everyone in between could not have been better to work with! The food, oooh the food, IS SO DAMN GOOD! The manchego butter sauce on the beef tenderloin is something dreams are made of. The tasting we did get to do has been a highlight of the year! Chef Suzie was so nice and helped us create a great menu that our guests would have been sure to enjoy. When we started out in the planning process, the food was so important to us (maybe the most important thing at the wedding!). We wanted our guests to be treated to an incredible, memorable meal -- and Herban Feast over delivered. Since the wedding, we have received non-stop compliments on the food and service from our guests and non-guests who have heard others rave about the food. BJ went above and beyond checking in with us the day before when an issue at our venue (not affiliated with Herban Feast) arose and even offered ideas and alternatives to help. We are so thankful our planner Lori Losee from Elegant Affairs recommended Herban Feast and are simply glowing from how perfect this aspect of the wedding was for us. I recently attended a fabulous wedding catered by Herbanfeast. I hate to say this because you are supposed to go to the wedding for joining of two people, blah blah blah. I'm there for the food and the cake! After the beautiful (really, it was!) wedding we enjoyed some passed appetizers of Sweet Potato & Dungeness Crab Cakes with chipotle remoulade & minced chive, Vegetarian Fresh Rolls with mango, papaya, veggies & opal basil with Thai sweet chili dipping sauce, and Bruschetta topped with smoked salmon mousse, olive & thyme tapenade and roasted eggplant caponata - along with a choice of red or white wine. After an hour or so of snacking, drinking, and schmoozing - we were seated for dinner and table by table went up and helped ourselves to a delicious buffet. The buffet included lots of yummyness - Salad of Organic Greens with edible flowers, fresh berries, candied almonds, & goats cheese, Caprese Salad with heirloom tomatoes, fresh mozzarella & sweet basil, Bread & Rolls, Grilled Wild Salmon Fillets with a three herb sauce, Grilled Tender Beef Loin Steaks with pan roasted cippolini onions. The Sparkling berry lavender lemonade - was phenomenal! Granted - I have no idea how much the whole thing cost - but it was delicious and perfectly presented. Next time I have an event for work I'll certainly give them a shot, I suspect that they might be too pricey for non-profit land - but I hope I can use them. So my wife and I used Herban Feast for our wedding in August and I can say that they earned their 5 stars easily on that day as well as during the months prior during planning. My background is in food, catering, and events and for our wedding we had a lot of specifics and particular details we were interested in. Herban Feast took our vision and not only executed it, they helped us to expand and customize it. We had the owner as our event planner and he went above and beyond for our wedding. His consistent eye and attention to detail was exactly what we wanted and it helped to provide everyone there that evening with a truly memorable experience. The food was delicious and all freshly made. We received a lot of "wows" from guests that evening as well as in the weeks following. I had the intent to go around and talk with a lot of our guests during the reception, but I actually made the observation that evening that most of them where too busy eating - literally going back again and again and trying everything that was available. The food presentation was spectacular. BJ, the owner, created finishing touches on all of the displays we had designed and they were gorgeous. Edible art for sure. The pictures look like food photography pictures or displays right out of magazines. Keep in mind that being specific and detailed about what you want is important. We got married at The Foundry by Herban Feast and used them for catering as well. First off, The Foundry is an amazing venue!! The overall flow of the whole space is perfect and if you want everyone on the dance floor all night, this is the place to do it. The bar is right by the dance floor and we put the dessert/late night snack near there as well. Herban Feast also nails it with their food! Everything was delicious and unique. My girlfriend and I attended a wedding in early December here and the event itself was beautiful, the food was pretty good as well. The night was actually pretty amazing until we went to the coat check that the bride and groom paid extra for at the end of the night handed them our claim ticket only to be told that my girlfriends coat was not there. The coat check girl said she may have read the numbers wrong and handed it to the wrong guest. My girlfriend was upset as she'd just received the coat as a gift and let's face it, Seattle winter is barely getting started in December! After being pressed, the coat check girl took my information and said she would contact us. This never happened and after multiple calls to Herban, I asked the groom for the owners information. Initially the owner BJ said that one of the bridesmaids must have taken the coat. After further prodding from me he said he would contact his insurance company. Three months after following up and checking in only to get the run around and no resolution I've turned to Yelp so that at least others will be aware of what poor customer service we received at a luxurious expensive venue. read more

Super tasty, professional, gorgeous presentation....what more could you ask for? Herban Feast Catering has been responsible for my watering mouth at several events recently. The Seattle Chamber Networking event and the Ouch My Eye studio event in SODO just blissed my tastebuds out beyond belief. Seasonal, local, organic...WOW. Just my kinda people. The heirloom tomato bisque and lobster bisque mini bread bowls, the bruschetta, crab cakes, and mushroom puffs, cheese platers with fruits like grapes and red pears are just the beginning of the options at Herban Feast. Everything is so fresh and yummy. They sure please this foodie's palette. Every time I've seen the presentation of the food it is beautiful. Herban Feast was the caterer at a private event I went to last night. I was impressed with the food presentation they had at the event and everything I ate was wonderful! Some of my favorites were the three cheese platter, the individual pot stickers, the crab cakes and the chicken fava bean small plate. Even the pesto style dip for the veggies were delicious! Everything I had was tasty! The food was stationed around the room as well as a few dishes that they passed around as well. The staff was wonderful, very friendly and kept bringing out and around food, which I am always a fan of. I got married in October 2008. We fell in love with the Herban Feast's food at the Seattle Wedding Show in the previous January. We were also intrigued that they were going to open their own venue that they were going to renovate from a patio furnature store. We actually go to view the location before any renovation had started and we fell in love with the feel of it. I noticed that there were a few bad reviews on here so I thought that I should state how much we appreciated all their help at our wedding reception. We had a specialty cocktail that was served by hanging the glasses on this bronze tree - which was a complete hit with the guests. We had three appetizers that were served on trays during the cocktail hour. We arrived fashionably late and I loved that fact that they had saved us some appetizers at our sweetheart table. We opted for a family-style dinner serving which required guests to pass platters around to each other. We loved the concept because it would encourage discussion amongst the tables. For dinner we had beef tenderloins and salmon - which was tasty. We still hear from people who attended the wedding that the food was the best that they had ever had at a wedding. Even though I really didn't eat much at the wedding, I appreciated having a "tasting" dinner a few weeks before and that meal was delicious. I definitely had to add 5 stars because there were a number of guests that had sickness from an earlier event and the staff went over and beyond their duties. Not only did they deliver, there was zero food left over - every bite was eaten! And we didn't skimp on the amount! Really great experience overall. Rosalyn was super on point- easy to get a hold of, had a great grasp of our event and the details that went along with it. She is detail-oriented and organized. The actual delivery and setup seemed smooth. Team showed up on time and everything was displayed nicely. The food was pretty tasty (for being catering) and the team on-site were polite and friendly. The reason for the 3 stars is that post-event, Rosalyn reached out and indicated that her team counted more people than the final numbers I gave her. But this was untrue. Exactly the number I gave her was the number in attendance. We only had ~50 guests, so it was not hard to keep track of. I even double checked my spreadsheet twice to make sure! This was an unpleasant experience to end our time working together. Who likes being accused of something that didn't happen? Make sure to double check your expected guest count to actual guest count so this doesn't happen to you! If it wasn't for that, I would have highly recommended Herban Feast. Super yummy! We were lucky to be able to sample Herban Feast's amazing creations at a tasting event at the Sodo Park location. Everything was delightful and we enjoyed the helpful, friendly staff as well. The presentations were very cool... they served a chicken salad in a little mini waffle cone - neato! I truly believe that super cliche thing everyone says, "you eat with your eyes first" and so beautiful food is something I really appreciate. We ended up requesting a quote from them for our wedding and found their prices to be right in line with other large catering companies in the area... which was surprising to us as after the quality we experienced at the tasting event we really expected it to be much higher. read more

My wedding was last week on the steamship Virginia V, and I have to say that everything about Herban Feast's service was outstanding. The food was beautiful, unique, fresh and so flavorful; and through some unimaginable wizardry, didn't seem at all diminished by the last-minute two-hour delay in the sailing of the ship (and therefore serving timeline). While I am certain the lengthy delay was very stressful for the crew, they didn't show it at all. They were perfectly attentive, gracious, and yet unobtrusive. My glass was never empty with a variety of drinks, and the crew captain was always handy with updates and consultations. I received a TON of compliments from my guests about the food, and heard that many went back for seconds (we had the strawberry brie bites, crab cakes, and a buffet with the market salad, salmon, beef loin, gnocchi, and roasted vegetables). Finally - in addition to composed appetizers and dinner plates - we got two 'composed' boxes of leftovers to take home (which was perfect, because it was hard to relax and focus enough to properly enjoy the meal during the wedding)! I chose Herban Feast because they were so highly rated, and I wanted great food and service that I didn't have to worry about. Their service was not inexpensive, but absolutely worth every penny. Herban Feast rocks!! My husband and I hired them to cater our wedding, as well as using their Design Studio for the decor, and we could not have been more pleased with how things turned out. Mary, who handled the catering end, and Chelsea, who took care of the decor, were both friendly, smart, and professional from day one. They often had answers to questions my husband and I didn't even realize we should be asking, and they made the whole experience fun and as worry-free as possible. We went with their Roving Feast idea, and it was a huge hit. The food was spectacular, and the staff was extraordinarily friendly and professional. They definitely helped make our night a success. I wish my review was based on their food. But alas, we were not even given the chance to try it. We asked for a quote from them, which was outrageously high. When I found a menu that was more in our price range on their website I attempted to email them back to see if this could work for both of us. They said they would get back to me shortly. Unfortunately, they never did. I attempted to contact them by email twice more, to no avail. I had heard good things about the quality of their food and was eager to make it work. I am very disappointed they never contacted us back, even if it was to say that they couldn't help us. So, let me begin by saying that my partner and I had no idea where to begin when we decided to get "married" in front of all of our friends and families. We got engaged in New York City over two years ago now and began planning immediately upon our return. The first place my partner saw as a venue online was this new place called Sodo Park. Although I really wanted to be on the water for our big day, she asked me to please check this place out. We walked in the door that afternoon and immediately fell in LOVE with the space and put down the deposit to reserve our date (TWO years early). During the next couple of years we attended many tastings, never once did they say enough is enough, you have eaten too much of our food! We also watched the prices at Sodo Park sky rocket because of the amount of people wanting the space. And a Bridal Magazine top honor! We were impressed. The only issue I ever had with this venue was its last minute planning. It really took a long time for them to start to want things from us and want information, but once we were about 3 weeks out I almost never checked my email to not find an email from them reminding us or asking us something. There were a few last minute charges and also a few things we should known about from the beginning, but overall it was wonderful! Every person was impressed with the venue! We felt like a million dollars in the space and the people were incredibly gracious to ask us if they could get us a plate of food, something to drink, etc. They really went above and beyond on the day of our event. You feel as though you are being pushed out at the end of the night from weddings sometimes, well these bartenders and staff were wondering why we were leaving! It was awesome. My partner and I will recommend this place to any lesbian or gay couple (or anyone for that matter) who would like to have their day and their celebration here because there was never a moment where we felt like we were being treated any different. I just had a wedding reception in West Seattle which was catered by Herban Feast. They did a great job, and we couldn't be happier with the food and the professionalism of the staff. We had an hour or so of passed appetizers that included their signature crab cakes, kahlua pork canapes, bruschetta, and oysters. We then had a seated dinner with three different entree choices: grilled beef tenderloin, taku-glazed salmon, and torta rustica for the vegetarian guests. The beef was tender, and a perfect medium rare. I also tried some of the salmon, which was also perfectly done. We got a ton of complements on the food (which means a lot to us, as both my husband and I are self-proclaimed foodies!). The staff did a really excellent job. Our site coordinator was very professional and organized, and easy to work with. We had an incredible bartender who, despite being mobbed most of the night with requests for mojitos, was completely charming and never stopped smiling during the course of the evening. I highly recommend their mojitos and the strawberry punch. BJ, the owner, was really easy to work with, and was happy to accommodate requests (such as the oyster bar). Just a final note -- out of the three caterers we were deciding amongst, Herban Feast was the only one that charged for the tasting. Don't let this scare you away! The tasting was amazing, and we got a chance to try a really wide range of the appetizers and were able to specify entrees that we were interested in. The short story: I give them 2 stars for customer service or if you're looking for your own wedding's caterer, 5 stars if you're judging the quality of food/presentation or if you're looking to attend a wedding where they're serving. So 3 stars is the compromise. The long story: Unfortunately, I seem to be the only Yelp-er who has had a relatively negative experience with Herban Feast ("HF"). I only wish my husband and I had had the dreamy interactions so many of you enjoyed! We hired HF for a fall 2013 wedding at Golden Gardens Bathhouse. We are in our mid-twenties, our families and guests were all from out of town and we financed a good portion of the wedding ourselves. We did ALL of the planning and prep ourselves and opted not to hire a day-of coordinator (looking back, we should have spent that extra cash if only to deal with HF). This meant that we were the only points of contact for HF. This, as well as our rather low-budget wedding, seemed to throw them off a little, as though I had to fight to be heard or taken seriously on a number of occasions. Our catering manager was attentive in the beginning and very helpful. Then she seemed to drop off the face of the planet the closer we got to our wedding date. This caused some of the only stress I experienced during wedding planning. In my attempts to relay our catering needs, I would have to send two or three follow up emails just to get any feedback. More frustrating was the fact that in spite of all my clearly defined requests, many of them were incorrectly executed on the day of the wedding, or forgotten all together. In the end, I had to spend an hour on the phone, two weeks before the wedding, to run through everything I had already explained via email over the past six months, but from which I had received little response or confirmation. Once the day arrived, things got the usual wedding day crazy (that weekend where Seattle got the most September rainfall ever recorded in city history? yeah, that was the weekend) and we got a 15 minutes behind the original schedule. Throughout the evening, both at the beginning of the meal and also for the dessert service, I had to actively seek out members of the HF staff in order to initiate action, even though a schedule of the evening's events was provided. The staff though, were friendly and helpful, once they were located. Seemingly because of all the confusion, the first 30 guests, including the wedding party, received freezing cold food, served on equally freezing cold plates. The staff though, were friendly and helpful once they were located. However, the food, despite being cold, was delicious and I have been told numerous times that we had the best (or "in the top two") wedding meal most of our guests had ever experienced. The quality of HF's food cannot be looked over. Simply put, it was incredible. Perfectly cooked salmon, tender beef, and fresh bright greens with tasty dressing. Unfortunately, even though it was delicious, it was also not the meal that had been agreed upon the week before, with sides changing from being all gluten free friendly to only partially so (a discouraging discovery for this gf bride). In the end, while the food was incredible, the experience was more of a headache than it was worth. Add in the cost of food, which comprised almost 50% of our total budget, along with the extra struggle to communicate, and I hesitate to recommend HF to others. Perhaps if parents, or a wedding planner, were the points of contact, and if the venue was their own venue, the experience may be much more positive. Clearly, the reviews show that many people have had it better so don't take my word as gospel. In fact, if I was told someone ELSE was having a party catered by Herban Feast, I'd happily attend. read more

I should probably not be on my phone since I am in Maui, but the beach will still be there in a few minutes. We got married two days ago August 3rd, 2013 and we were fortunate enough to have Herban Feast do our catering . Aside from the fact that the food is delicious and plentiful ( we did buffet style and literally were sending people home with doggy bags.. So much food) the staff are perfect. I have never had better service anywhere. Not even at five star restaurants.. Now I get that I am the groom and so they had to be nice to me haha, however through out the night people kept commenting on how fantastic everyone was. Their drinks never ran dry and they always had someone there if they needed something else. Needless to say everyone loved the food and the wedding . Would highly recommend this company .. I recently moved to Seattle and my job requires that I arrange catering about 3 weeks out of each month. I was given a list of caterers but have to admit that I was underwhelmed by most. After researching caterers in the area, I came across Herban Feast and all I can say is everything was fantastic. Catering is a small, yet important part of my job. It is nice to call a caterer, tell them the date, the time and number of people and trust them to take care of the rest. This is exactly what Herban Feast does. I do not have to search through menu selections and pick out each detail. They create a menu and then give me the opportunity to make any changes as needed. As great as the customer service is, I have to say the food is just as amazing. I have worked with Herban Feast over the last several years for many work events. They have completely spoiled my fellow co-workers, which is well deserved!! They have catered our December Holiday party for the last 5 years with over the top food and fantastic service. The parties have been held in the homes of my co-workers and the staff always treats the home with the utmost of care and respect. They hardly even know a party has occurred by the time they leave. They have also catered our office open houses. Right or not...an open house is judged by the quality of it's food. Herban Feast always hits the spot. And finally....Reese is who makes it all happen for us. She is so much fun to work with. She makes everything so easy. I mostly appreciate her patience. It can't be easy to work within the constraints of business budgets and meeting the needs of all co-workers and clients alike, but she manages to help me pull it all together. I hired Herban Feast to cater a pig roast for my birthday. They made the day extraordinary! I live an hour away from them so all communication was done via e-mail and I never tasted the food in advance, but Mark (contact person) and Justin (chef) arrived prepared and in great spirits. I had a blast hanging out with them for hours as we prepared for the party and Mark helped me decorate. The set-up was perfect and they even discovered a problem with my kegerator before the party so that I was able to get it fixed in time for my guests' arrival. I had a bad cold and I was impressed that they urged me to relax and have some soup while they prepared everything so that I would feel better in time for the party. Such nice guys! The food was amazing and all my guests were impressed with the pig roast and remarked how wonderful everything tasted. The service was outstanding as well. Mark helped with everything and charmed the guests while Justin made sure we had plenty of food to go around. After the party, they transferred the leftovers to my own serveware and provided to-go boxes for guests to bring home some food. They cleaned everything up immaculately so I didn't have to worry about a thing the next morning. I can't say enough good things about Mark and Justin and the entire Herban Feast team that made my birthday party the best ever. I look forward to having them in my home again and checking out their restaurant in West Seattle soon! read more

We loved Herban Feast. We used them for our wedding a month ago. Not only was the food local, seasonal, delicious and beautifully presented, but the service was warm and efficient. The staff understood our desire for a relaxed wedding reception and accommodated wonderfully by cheerily talking with guests as they refilled their glasses. As soon as we finished the wedding there were two awesome servers waiting with a plate of food, ready to bring us whatever we wanted to drink. We were cared for and congratulated by the staff, who skillfully balanced engagement with unobtrusiveness. And to top it all, the food was excellent. We had perfectly tender and moist salmon that impressed all of our Washington friends and opened the eyes of our East Coast guests. We also relished the herb-crusted tenderloin, the roasted fingerling potatoes, roasted asparagus, and Farmer's Market summer salad. They even kept all of our beer and wine cold and flowing smoothly. Overall, Herban Feast was a huge success loved by all our guests and us. We couldn't have been better served and enjoyed better food on that day. read more

We recently used Herban Feast for our wedding catering and could not be happier. The food is by far the best I have had for any larger-sized order and our guests agreed -- I'm not kidding when I say at least 10 people came up to me telling me the food was the best wedding meal they've had -- I know I might be biased, but I promise they said it! Michele was our point person and she was responsive, professional, humorous, and overall really enjoyable to work with - they worked within our budget and our dietary needs and I would not hesitate to hire them again for any events in the future. read more

We recently had our wedding at SoDo Park catered by Herban Feast and decorated by Herban Design Studios. Herban Feast - The food was fabulous! They were so very accommodating as myself and a good portion of my wedding party are Gluten Free and they were great about answering our questions during the planning stages and making sure we had the meal that we wanted. We went with the family style dining and it was a ton of fun. The cider roasted veggies and rosemary beef tenderloin were just perfect. The only thing that was a bit off was the late night snack. We had decided to go with the truffle popcorn as me and my husband are big popcorn fans. However it was rather stale and you really couldn't taste the truffle. Beyond this, we were very pleased with the meal. Matt with Herban Feast was great. Very communicative, and answered all of our questions. He helped get everything sorted out for our event. The venue was beautiful and it's just a great space. Perfect for a ceremony and reception. We could not have asked for a more perfect space. Herban Design Studio - They do beautiful work, but you have to really be on top of things. Even though we met in person and I thought Rebecca had taken detailed notes, her initial proposal was fairly wrong and we had to go back and forth a few times. I'm also not sure if she is just constantly busy, but she is slow to respond and I had to badger them about final payment. The flowers and decor turned out beautifully though. read more

Herban Feast catered our wedding in September. BJ and Dali did an outstanding job. They really worked back and forth with me to create a hybrid southern (groom) and Northwest (me) wedding menu. They really went the extra mile for us the entire process and the food really turned out beyond expectations - even though they had to create the ktichen from scratch to cook at our remote garden wedding. My son and daughter-in-law used Herban Feast Catering for their wedding. I was delighted as I often eat at Fresh Bistro in W. Seattle which is a restaurant owned and operated by the same restaurateur; BJ Duft. All four of us attended the Open House that BJ Duft offered and were amazed at his catering facility and fabulous food. We were not disappointed on the day of the wedding as everything was executed beautifully and with flair. BJ Duft showed up at the event and personally oversaw everything.
