Paid $400 to have a bag cleaned and I was able to wipe off brown stuff with a wet paper towel after picking it up.. .. They had the bag 4 months and didn't bother to let me know it was ready. The bag doesn't look any different.. I highly doubt that it was even cleaned.. read more

When stitching had become undone in a boot, I brought it to Henry's to have it re-stitched. After pre-paying $45, the "repaired" seam is not aligned with the original stitching, the leather is stained, and the boot does not fit properly. Very disappointed. read more

I've always had a thing for cobblers. There is something comforting to me about shoe repair shops, usually small overflowing spaces with shoes, boots, heels, laces, tools and smelling of leather, glue, and polish with the hum of machinery in the background. Then you will almost always find, as you do in this place, a grandfatherly man in a leather apron...(I think I've just described Geppetto but I loved him too.) I've been coming to Henry's Shoe Repair for years now and I live in fear that some day this lovely and talented man will retire and close up shop. He does a great job repairing shoes/boots and leather goods and charges fair and reasonable prices. When you pick up your shoes or boots they are also nicely shined for you. He is a man of few words but clearly takes pride in his work which is always of high quality. I have never been disappointed . read more

I brought in a pair of black boots which needed two decorative buckles on one boot replaced. I was told that they would not be able to match it so ended up having to pay for four buckles for both boots and given a two week time frame. When I went to pick up my boots, the buckles were gold tone instead of silver despite my stating they had to be silver to match the zipper and zipper pull. I had to prepay the total repair cost when I brought them in which I thought was unusual. The boots/shoes are sent to their Weymouth store (LaRossa Shoe Repair) so they will have to be brought back over there and repaired yet again. Very disappointed - read more

I came in with a pair of boots. The toe of the sole was coming unglued. The guy blew it off, saying to take it back to the store. I informed him they were 30 year olds on their second set of soles. Then the old Italian guy blows off my plea to just reglue and put some nails or screws in like Herman Survivors, Red Wings, Chippewas, and Justin boots have. It's normal stuff and not hard with the machines and material. Old Italian guy tells me I could do all that at home. What a lazy bones dick. Obviously, he doesn't worry about rent or overhead cost and meeting them by actually transacting business. Hey. I took the man's advice. Krazy glue, six screws, and a power drill. But wtf? I brought my favorite black loafers here to be cleaned and the guy did a phenomenal job. I didn't expect much since the shoes were badly damaged from salt stains and everyday wear. When I picked them I noticed a significant difference. They fully restored the color and polished the leather for me. Really impressed with the craftsmanship and recommend anyone that needs shoes fixed to come here. The young man told me Henry's has been under new ownership for 3 years now and the repair shop that took over was nearly a 100 year old shoe business! I love this guy..People told me before I went that he was overpriced. That was not my experience. I don't know if you have noticed a sharp decline in cobblers in the last decade. This guy has been there forever and he is really good. Right in toney, downtown Hingham, MA. We need to support these dying craftsmen and do a little reducing by shaping up last seasons shoes and boots. The quick review: The work they actually completed was good, but they did not make all the repairs I paid for. They had my shoes for 2 weeks, and I would have had to re-send my shoes to complete the work they should have done initially. Full review: My fiance and I recently moved to Cohasset and needed a cobbler. Henry's had good reviews online and they're established, so we decided to test out their work by taking in a couple of well-made but lower price point shoes that wouldn't devastate us if they were ruined (ex, M. Gemi). The two guys who helped us were mostly friendly and recommended repairs for us. One thing that didn't sit right with me was, at one point, I noticed a lovely pair of Valentino boots (from FW 17) and casually mentioned that I liked them. I was admiring them because I almost bought them a few months ago and seeing those boots made me regret that I didn't. One of the gentlemen assisting us stated that they were $1,300 boots in a tone that suggested he expected us to be shocked by that, as though we couldn't have possibly been exposed to such expensive shoes before. I didn't like that but I brushed it off. Maybe HE was shocked by how much people are willing to pay for shoes? Anyway, he rang us up, and for 3 soles, 2 heels, and 1 insole it came to $325. A bit pricey. M. Gemi had offered to refund me the cost of repairs for their shoes since they stand by the quality of their craftsmanship. When I sent them the receipt, they stated that the repairs we did typically cost half what Henry's charged, even in an expensive city like Boston or NYC (where they are based). That was strike 2 against Henry's. It took 2 weeks to complete the repairs, which was fine with me. When I picked them up, I inspected the work they did. The new soles and heels were done well, and the work was clean. Sometimes cobblers can be messy with glues or paints, but this was not the case with Henry's. It looked good as new. Only problem is that they did not complete my order. They had not replaced the insoles for the one pair that needed them, even though I was charged and they had plenty of time to do it. I ran back into the store to point out their oversight. They guy was apologetic and told me that I would need to leave the shoes there to be sent off again. I told him that I had already waited 2 weeks and didn't want to send them off again. He asked if I wanted to bring them back. I most definitely did not want to bring them back, and for the premium prices Henry's charges, I should not need to do so. He was quick to refund the charge for the insoles and was verbally polite, but his demeanor was rather standoffish as though he were happy to send me off ASAP and was not really interested in my repeat business. Based on my experience, I don't yet know if I'll return to Henry's with my nicer shoes. I trust that whatever work they would do to them would be fine, but I have no idea whether they would complete the work the first time. I also wasn't impressed by their passive aggressiveness. M. Gemi recommended a few alternative cobblers in the city, all of which have great reviews online and are near my place of work. I will most likely try those out before I consider returning to Henry's. read more

Terrible, off-putting customer service. Threw shoes on counter when we asked why a certain aspect of the repair was not completed. We always like to repair something the old fashioned way, but this guy! He told us to send the shoes back to the manufacturer. We had really hoped we would be satisfied with his work, forgiving the attitude, but his efforts were shoddy at best. We like to support the local little hometown shop. I had the heel of one of my favorite boots come off so I brought them to Henry's. The young man who greeted me was professional and friendly. He was very helpful and said I should get both heels replaced and have the boots oiled. The price was $35 which I thought was very reasonable and they were done in one week. I went to Henry's to get my MCM Backpack zipper replaced. The manager Ezechiel was such a tremendous help! He gave me a great price and the few days that it took beat the weeks it would have taken to ship out for repair. The craftsmanship is bar none. Absolutely thrilled with the result! I ended up bringing in my girlfriends Louis Vuitton hand bag to remove some scuffing and the handy work is amazing! Looks brand new! I strongly reccomend going to Henry's! Henry has sold this business to another company and it's too bad because he would be ashamed of the way they do business under his name. I came to them about a small spot on my BRAND NEW shoes . The counter guy did not know if they could fix it ,but recommended I purchase their weather-proofing spray to protect the shoes.He repeatedly insisted the spray was safe and would not damage the shoes. The spray left the shoes streaked,stained and ruined . When I returned he said to leave them and he would ask the cobbler if they could be fixed . When I came back again the next day I was told the damage was there before I used their product ,It was INVISIBLE and the spray only exposed it. I was told they might be able to fix this for an additional cost of $25. When I said " that's ridiculous , I'm not paying you to fix damage you caused" the kid rolled his eyes,stared at the floor and said nothing. I am now out a brand new pair of $90 shoes and the cost of the spray ($12). Also when I got home I found a note in the shoes that read : "can we fix these, CUSTOMER CLAIMS they did not look like this before weather-proofing ." This little weasel saw the shoes in their original state and knows they did not look like that . I was just going to never go back,but now I am furious and will be complaining to the Hingham Business Association and Better Business Bureau. Henry is a nice old guy who took pride in his work and did a good job. These guys destroyed my shoes and then lied through their teeth to avoid responsibility for it. (at my expense.)
