There are televisions everywhere, countless refreshment stalls with no queues, a huge beer tent with reasonable prices and clean toilets. Koně v padocku si jde bez problémů prohlížet z vyvýšeného svahu obestavěného betonovými schody, během závodu obrovské obrazovky s dolní lištou průběžně se měnícího pořadí, všude televize, nespočet stánků s občerstvením bez front, obrovský pivní stan s rozumnými cenami a čisté toalety. We saw the Queen and the Royal Family arrive (the Royal Races last Tuesday), and from out grandstand area we could see all the crazy wealthy folks in their top hats and tails - and dresses with elaborate hats or fascinators - losing their money just as we were losing ours. It was a fun day, everything there ranges from expensive to ridiculous but memorable. Allow plenty of time to get there by car, and consider taking a picnic - but honestly sitting by my car in the huge parking area and drinking champagne, while being cost-effective, didn't seem to "fit" with the ambience there. Although some guys in top hats were doing so! I guess the nouveau riche :) For my American friends, remember that grandstand in Britain means just that - STAND. After decades of softening up in the US I was thinking we would get seats - but no!! Will I go again - quite possibly - it was fun I must say.....

Throughout the day I was betting on various horses and I only lost £2 after all, so got lucky there. Not sure how it compares to the food downstairs, but the food in the private box was quite good, and so was the service. I recommend going to Ascot to have a good time. I got here by taxi from my hotel, but from what I heard there is sufficient parking right across High Street in a large open parking lot. Also a good meeting point.

On the tour we got to see court 1, centre court, the press room, a roofop, and walk the grounds. After the tour we had tickets for the museum. The grass is absolutely breathtaking. I can't believe what great care everything is in. Especially after I toured the Australian Open in Melbroune this past summer. This venue is certainly the granddaddy of them all. I like how they leave the scores of the championship matches on the scoreboard all year. And then, throughout the park they have the entire bracket scores from every single match played during Wimbledon of that year. I liked all of the history and facts that they tell you along the way. The only downside is they need to give more time for photos. You'd get like exactly 1 minute for a photo and then get yelled at about moving onto the next location.

Was fortunate enough to score both Centre Court and No. 1 Court tickets for the same day! I should start with actually getting here. It's pretty straightforward. If you're taking the Tube, you want to take the District Line and the closest station is Southfields. Be prepared to walk though, it is about a 20 min walk to AELTC. You get to also pass by the Queue too...very fortunate I did not have to go through overnight camping at the Queue. I have nothing but amazing things to say about the facilities here. Even though it's a very very old place, you wouldn't be able to tell with all the modernization they have done here. Quite beautiful honestly! Centre Court is obviously where everyone wants to be, I do wish that the corridors were less tight but it is after all a very old structure in the first place. No. 1 Court is much more modern since it was built in 1997 and thus has more concourse space. But both have amazing leg room. Never felt more comfortable! Food options are plentiful. There are quick service options as well as three different sitdown restaurants that you can make reservations for. And of course, you can't come here without having the famous strawberries and cream! Every tennis fan must find a way to come to AELTC one day. It basically is a pilgrimage for tennis fans!

Racism is one of the most f***ed up concepts on the planet, so if you have racial prejudices, trust me, if you ever trust me about one thing, trust me on this, get the f*** over them. We are all the same. You are wrong. Thanks. Speaking of wrong, it's wrong to put this stadium where it's hard to get to, and to put the prices so damn high, and for that reason I have to give it a 4 instead of a 5. First-Hand Experience: More info about my personal experience at this stadium - I couldn't believe how much I had to pay for a ticket. Is this the Premier League? I think not. I paid more here than I paid even at a Fulham game... a home Premier League game in London! I'm not sure why this is the case and believe me it's the only reason it scores a 4 instead of 5. Because this is an absolutely remarkable stadium. State of the art, beautiful, magnificent, with intense and loud support from the rabid Coventry fans. I love it. It's a great place to watch concerts too. It's twice the stadium Highfield Road was. But as long as the prices are this high, I can't give them more than 4. The last game I saw here was 2011, and I'm hoping to go back to another one in 2016... if I can afford it. It reminds me of Manchester City's stadium, believe it or not. I've been inside both - lucky boy. I've been to most UK & US stadiums, due to lifelong obsessions with travel, sport & especially footy (soccer to Americans). Born & raised in England, I followed Oxford United (hometown team) to stadia all over the country at away games, and later Liverpool (fave team) around. Every stadium review - like all my reviews - are from first-hand personal experience, usually from several visits. In 2011, I was on music tour in the UK, and visited most stadiums for fun in my spare time. As recently as Fall 2014, when I was "stuck" in UK for 3 months, I went to hundreds yet again while travelling. I have pictures of me at most, which I'll post later. Also, when back in UK I'll take more pix, and add more stadia! *** return to regular review *** But I still love this place. It's capable of a great atmosphere (the team will need to get back to the Prem for that, they're 2 tiers down), it's held rock concerts like the awesome Bon Jovi an the awful Nickelback and someday hopefully me, and it's a cute sky blue like the team. It looks great inside and out like my gf. It was part of the Olympics and can hold a whopping 32k fans which is fantastic for a new stadium. It cost a whopping 113 million which is crazy. Because the stadium is owned by ACL I'll keep it at 4 stars, they're really mean to the club itself. It's an AMAZING stadium, but CCFC need to own it in order for this to work properly.

Although not as crazy as I would've imagined, the fans are chanting the whole match, and the atmosphere is great. First-Hand Experience: More info about my personal experience at this stadium - I've watched one match at the New Den, in 2011 - it was half full which was a shock, and might be the reason why it only gets 4 stars. I'd heard about the rabid, evil Millwall fans, and seen them so many times away from home, and once in their old stadium as a younger lad. Not the case on the day I was here, but then the opponent was a lowly and unexciting adversary. It's a good stadium though, not as expensive as some of the others in London, by a long shot. I enjoyed my day, I was covered from the rain by the stands, I didn't get stabbed (people used to say that's what happened at Millwall games), and altogether I found it a lot more pleasant and also underwhelming than expected. I'll try it again for a much bigger game, one of these days... to see what the fuss is really about. So when I was doing my first tour of Scotland in 2011, I also hit up every single stadium in the country. My obsession with footy (soccer to Americans) is the reason. Every stadium review - like all my reviews - are based on first-hand personal experience, usually from multiple visits. As recently as Fall 2014, when I was "stuck" in UK for 3 months, I went to most of them yet again while travelling. I have pictures of me at many of them, which I will post later. Also, when back in Scotland I plan to take more pix, and add more stadia! So watch this space! *** return to regular review *** They're one of my least fave teams, and even though this stadium was used in Dream Team as the home of Harchester United, it's still not anything special to me with open-ended sides and such. It creates an intimidating atmosphere of course. It was built in 92 for 16 mil, and is the pride of South East London, with a capacity of around 20k. As you can see from the pictures, it's absolutely fantastic and the atmosphere is intense, but it would be better if it filled in the corners.
