Watford

We went here today with my two children aged 6 and 2. It is a holiday at her school so it was a…read morequiet afternoon with hardly any people about. The Watford branch of Gambado is brand new, so everything is sparkling clean and attractive to look at. The whole area is large and well spaced. Taking focal point was a massive playframe. There was a large four-lane slide as well as some of those rotating slides (not sure what it's called). There was a seperate area for under-2s. Tame enough to keep older kids away but still fun for the younger ones. They had large building blocks too, a nice touch. Next to the playframe was a climbing wall. The cafe was okish, nothing too great. Food was well presented but limited in variety. The only hot meal options seemed to be pizza and sandwiches. There were some nice salads too. The cafe had nice seating, transparent rounded chairs in different colours. Very well spaced out tables, not your typical softplay cafe. Prices were a bit on the high side. They had some areas with big chalkboards for the children to scribble on. And another place for musical experimenting, different things to bang on and make sounds. They also had some magnet play. Under some clear glass thingies were magnet shavings, pins etc. that children could pull a magnet over, causing patterns. There was also a fairly large track for dodgem cars. For adults there was a seperate lounge. There were computers with internet access, newspapers etc. It didn't look like children were allowed there, the notice said Adults Only. Strange that, who'd be watching the kids while the parents sat in a seperate area? It cost £15 entrace for me and the kids. By far the most expensive place for this sort of activity. You didn't have to spend any money inside though (unless you want to eat), everything was unlimited. There were plenty of lockers, clean and spacious, to deposit your belongings. It is free to use and you only need a £1 coin cif you want to lock it (it is refunded). Toilets are reasonably clean too, but I don't know if that is because it was a quiet day. Would recommend it if nothing cheaper is close to you. Works out quite expensive for a small family even.

Great place to take the kids. The membership I have works brilliantly as we use it more in the…read morewinter. Love how it caters to the younger ones aswell as the older ones. The party's are fab as they take care of everything especially being heavily pregnant and exhausted over the summer it was one less thing to worry about!

££

Canonbury

I honor and admire the work here... (cutting kids hair all day, no thanks!)…read more But, £24 for a 2 year old's haircut on a Saturday ---- eeeeeps, methinks too much. Especially because it is £16 during the week. I like them, but yikes. It's a lot for a little haircut and some zooming in the cars.

Terrible experience for my own haircut bringing my little one with me…read more First on the phone the tone of voice wasn't friendly and when I was asking if there's a time they know they're a bit less busy she said we're very popular and always busy. However, I managed to get an appointment the day after around lunch time and when I came there was nobody, just me and my boy. No one offered to take my coat and bags or told me where I could put them. They didn't seem delighted that my little one was running everywhere and wanted to touch everything and go up and down each vehicles. I was getting my hair done and was trying to keep an eye on him in the mirror but would sometimes loose track of him. There was 2 other ladies just chatting at reception point, the hairdresser, my little one and myself in the salon at that time. He managed to open a small very low not locked cupboard where wipes were and started taking off each wipe and the lady at reception saw him cause I was wondering where he was at that time since I couldn't see him and he was quiet. She stood and ran to him, said "NO" to him in an aggressive way and snatched the wipes away from him. Literally she took the liberty to tell him off in front of me although it was just wipes and she was bothered I'm the mum you could always give me a head up and ill go and sort it out. Its clear I'm responsible of him obviously but having my hair done so wasn't thinking cupboard at his level would be open or low things reachable for little one. That's why I chose a salon like that having him in mind and thinking things were safe for them to play around waiting for their mummy to have a hair cut of course still with mummy supervision. I could see straight away it wasn't the scenario they liked although when I called it was clear I was very excited to be able to go somewhere to have my hair done with my toddler. They could have been clear on the phone that it wasn't for this kind of set up! But its clear that they do not put the customer satisfaction first, they want your money and they want no trouble. A second incident happened with my little one, this time I was on the phone so fair enough and he found the clippers! She again ran to him and aggressively said no to him and he came to me saying no no no cause he got told off and I literally stood up from my chair when I saw her running to him, she didn't think about telling me anything I think she even took pleasure and felt so empowered to tell him off it was clear to me and she used the excuse that it was sharp. Clippers are sharp when they're on and it wasn't but still I can understand its unsafe then why is it easily reachable and why you don't tell me? I'm here, in the same room! I can take responsibility of being on the phone not having seen that although I was actually showing him on the phone to my family 2 seconds before and then it happened very quickly. That is what was the most shocking out of my experience but its not all! Not only the person at the reception have power tripping issues but the hairdresser has skills and ego issues. I came with pictures, I was clear in my explanation, wasn't satisfied with the result and just wanted to explain and she actually ended using argumentative tone instead of trying to find a solution and it was obvious she didn't know how to cut the hair how I wanted and its not impossible since I had it done before. It was obvious she got vexed and told its going into my lunch time now and I have to go, that is free of charge and if you want to see another stylist you can stay here. no other stylist was available. I took the gown myself off (had to put it on myself too) took our jacket and left with my little one crying since he could sense something was wrong and we had to go quickly. Forgot his cup there and of course nobody would call to let me know! I had to go and get my boy to sleep for his nap as he was tired and had to process what just happened. There are for sure other details to mention but I will leave it here to warn you if you want to go for your own haircut bear in mind the staff is not understanding and children friendly plus they're not very good at cutting hair! I was going to treat myself and try to have a good time, didn't cut my hair in two years at least and I was advise by another mummy to go there so I just went in with the trust I will have a good experience... olalala worse ever! Also the pic look good on the website but the salon look very poor when you come in you understand it's run down and the worst customer service. DONT GO THERE!!!
