It also features a nice large classroom space with activities and short films - on the day we visited, it was alternating between videos on elk and eagles. The restrooms were exceptionally clean and in good condition. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming. The park has a lot of things to explore - and keep your eyes peeled for elk as you go! There was a sighting of a large bull while we were there. There is a reservoir created by a dam that offers opportunities for boating and fishing, and the dam is a great place to get a good overlook of the area. They offer pontoon boat tours on Sundays during parts of the year, but unfortunately, ours got cancelled due to the boat needing a repair. Camping, hiking, and wildlife viewing areas are also available in the park. We really enjoyed our visit here!

I was impressed by the inclusion of park staff for educational programming and talks about the the galaxy stars and more. They had telescopes for people to use as well which was pretty cool. Neat place well worth the visit on a beautiful starry night! If I had one complaint and it isn't park related, people really need to abide by the red light rules. We were absolutely blinded on several occasions by people with cell phones and other white light sources and it definitely takes you out of the experience. It really is that dark and it matters!

I went for the night sky programs and it was fantastic. The people running all seem like long time pros and ran a fantastic educational evening. The program on bats was very well researched and had good information to take home. The star tour was enjoyable and focused. They had very fancy telescopes for people to check spots out in. I was a bit worried about that but they repeatedly reminded people to keep hands in pockets. Bonus points- they even had safety goggles to use if you wanted! The grounds looked very well kept and there were plenty of camp spots open. However be warned- the true campfire spots are further away and book a year ahead. There are special programs you can pay extra for as well to give a deeper dive into star gazing. They had people come in from all over the country and lots of people brought blankets and a night time picnic. It was a truly glorious view and a wonderful treasure to escape from city life. Parking is plentiful but I recommend arriving by sunset. Bathrooms are constructed latrines but were very clean and stocked with sanitizer.

One of the cabins is is overlooking the pond and very private. The owners are friendly and provided us with a small map to explore the area. Elk were all over as we drove to the Elk Visitor Center. So, one night turned into 3 nights and we have plans to stop here on our way back the first of October. Highly recommend you put Woodland Campground on your list of great campgrounds. UPDATE: just left the campground this morning! Another great 3 nights here. The color around the pond this morning was gorgeous.

Black Moshannon State Park is the place for people like me, and I reckon I'll return if I ever get the chance to meet Phillips Burg and decide to live in his town one day. The campsites, while basic, did the job with ease. I've never had a better s'more in my life in those fire pits. The falling acorns, however, made me have several Sir Isaac Newton moments and even gave my camping tent a concussion. It was nuts, but I slept like a dead dog every night. The 20 miles of hiking trails are excellent, and the bathhouse was suprisingly clean. I'll be back once I figure out what I'm doing with my life. The end.
