It was very buggy when we arrived (late July) but the weather turned cooler and we had beautiful weather for our four night stay. There was no sewer or water hookup at our site but the bathhouse was close. We walked some of the trails and everything was beautiful. We brought kayaks but the water we paddled in by the dam was just ok. Lots of vegetation close to the surface, etc. We stayed to visit friends nearby. Dogs are welcome but they don't want you walking them by the no-pet sites, which is a little awkward.

There are a lot of activities available in Little Pine State Park! There is a lake, Little Pine,…read morelocated near the park office. It's a very nice area with picnic tables, a playground, and a beach available along the water, which can be used for swimming and boating. The dam above the lake provides a great place to get a good overlook of the area to enjoy. There are several trails that run through the park. Camping, including yurts and cottages, are also available. The staff in the park office were friendly and helpful.

Elk State Forest is a beautiful area in the Pennsylvania Wilds region. While we, unfortunately, missed the elk at this visit, we still very much enjoyed relaxing and looking at the great overlooks and the forest itself. We received a recommendation to check out the vistas along Ridge Road drive, which were great. We hope to visit again - and maybe see an elk next time!

Colton Point State Park is located on the west side of Pine Creek Gorge/Grand Canyon of PA and…read moreacross from the Leonard Harrison State Park on the east side. Colton Point has fewer amenities than Leonard Harrison, but still offers the dramatic views of the gorge. There are several different overlooks to check out, and plenty of picnic pavilions to enjoy. At the time of our visit, one of the overlooks and its parking lot were blocked by a wedding, but we were fortunately able to access some of the others. There are a couple of trails available, including an easier one mile one that links the overlooks, and a more challenging one that lets you get down to the floor of the gorge.

We are all moderately experienced riders but found the lesson in the beginning to be helpful and much appreciated. The property is beautiful, horses are clearly well cared for, and the ride was a wonderful way to spend the afternoon. Do note that you likely won't have cell phone service out there but there is wi-fi if you need GPS directions to leave. Prices were very reasonable too! Would definitely recommend for a nice way to spend an afternoon while you're in the area.

Also cell service is a hit or miss but they do have wifi on location. Our guide was wonderful and very passionate for riding. Going through the trails was great this time of the year when leaves are turned. It was slippery which made it slightly more challenging for them. One of the horses was being silly but the initial instructions are very helpful and their solutions work. You will definitely enjoy your ride and you'll be in good hands here.

I was impressed by the inclusion of park staff for educational programming and talks about the the galaxy stars and more. They had telescopes for people to use as well which was pretty cool. Neat place well worth the visit on a beautiful starry night! If I had one complaint and it isn't park related, people really need to abide by the red light rules. We were absolutely blinded on several occasions by people with cell phones and other white light sources and it definitely takes you out of the experience. It really is that dark and it matters!
