Where to go on a hot summer day? A great public swimming pool like this one! There is an activity pool for lap swims and diving (or simply splashing around), a pool with waterslides, and a kiddie pool that goes from half an inch to two feet deep with various fountains that squirt water. They also offer swimming lessons and aerobic classes. For detailed info on their hours it's a good idea to check out their website. Here's the cool part: you can rent the pool for private parties! That's how I ended up here - I attended a friend's child's birthday bash. They provide lifeguards, tables, chairs, and easy-ups as part of the rental. The friendly staff make it so easy to throw a swimming party. And they won't make fun of how goofy you look in your swimsuit. The only bad thing was that there seemed to be a lot of ants around. Every time I sat down in a poolside chair it would take all of five minutes before half a dozen ants would find their way onto my legs.

I hope that they can put some budget on the new slides and swings for the kiddos and have proper coverage for the heat so that the kids can actually use it over the summertime . Not happy that a phone number is not listed so if you get 1 star. Over all a 3 star. If there is an upgrade on kids area/ shade then my review will go up. Please post pool time.

One day, my household got a flyer saying we can stake our claim on free air purifiers as part of the battleplan to combat this current struggle. I didn't think much of it at first, that maybe it's just a ploy to make one spend more than necessary. But my housemates insisted there was nothing to lose just by going to check it out. And that's how we ended up in this park. As they got in line to make their claim, pup and I got the chance to walk around and check out the park in general. What a delight to find the entire place we scouted free of ANY clutter. Staff is really good at maintaining the place. It's so much bigger than many parks I have been to. Other than the pools, there are basketball courts and a whole field for pee-wee football (who happened to be scheduled while we were there.) I looked around for signs on whether animals are permitted or not. Didn't see one, and judging by many other pup parents coming through, it may just be allowed. On our drive home, we learned it extended across the street as well. This entire place is humongous! I can't possible call it a hidden gem as big as it is, but so glad of the discovery. Although there are other parks closer to home, I may just come by once in awhile to walk the pup, maybe read a book...

Review #845 2025-017…read more George Mannon Aquatic Center (aka Torrance Aquatic Center) opened on Saturday, 03/03/18 with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony. Enter on the driveway between Honda Service Center & Starbucks, the aquatic center is between Torrance Elementary School & Shery High School. Eric Trujillo, former North HS student & design committee member, designed the facility's logo; the "Shield Marquee" is displayed at the entrance. The $15M project was made possible by Bond Measure U funds (approved in 11/2014), so this state-of-the-art pool has been long awaited by the community; yeah, I voted for this, not knowing my LO will be using the aquatic center 7 years later. She made her high school's JV swim team in her freshman year for the 2024-2025 school year with swim season held between mid-02/2025 - mid-04/2025. It's awe-inspiring to watch her & teammates race in this beautiful facility! The aquatic center has a 60-meter Olympic size competition & warm-up pools (both partially heated by solar panels) with 10 competition & 12 warm-up lanes, 600-seat spectator bleachers, separate lockers for TUSD's 4 high schools (Torrance, North, South, & West HS), & visiting teams changing room. There are showers available, but I'm told they're not working. While designed to allow 2 sports to be played simultaneously, her school competition schedule has not calendared concurrent competitions. The District Aquatic Programs include both water polo & swim, but no diving, in this proper world-class competitive facility. Upon entering, the far left pool is for water polo & swim meets, with middle & right pools are for practices. I thought I saw lessons for the younger set, but I could be wrong? According to USA Swimming, Swim Torrance is a local swim club that uses GMAC for training. Her team's locker room is 1 of 2 schools that's next to the competition pool. Time pads are a bit wonky since it's been 6 years, so H relies on the volunteer timers to record her times/splits. I wished they thought of building a snack shack by the NE corner near the water fountains, instead of using tents & foldable tables to set-up the snack stand. It's extra time needed by the parent volunteers for set-up & tear-down. The parking lot ginormous & is used by the aquatic center & also the adjacent baseball field. No diamond (prime) spaces by the entrance, but the circular driveway makes it easy for drop-offs & pick-ups unless the driver just parks their car, blocking others. \(`0´)/ The spectator bleachers have shade structures, but coverage is limited in the later afternoon/when the sun is setting unless you're sitting in the top/back row. We have to give props to The Plunge for their youth swim lessons to get her where she is today.

There is overhead coverage for the seating, but if it's the wrong time of day, you'll definitely be getting blasted by the sun straight in your face. We were able to get roof access to stream our event which was nice and have plenty of room for large tents, team seating and more. They also have nice meeting rooms where we tend to serve food to our athletes or hold team meetings.

Then I joined the swim team. The coaches at this place are the best I could have had. Very effective. The pool area is... typical urban. Not a place to vacation. During open swim, kids pee, there is grease on the top of the water, and sometimes weird things are found. Like poo, twix bars thrown in to masquerade as poo, and one time a raw squid. No Joke. The locker room is smelly, and I would really avoid showering here. Park bathroom, anyone?
