    Hawthorne pool swimming lessons

Wonderful swimming instructor, lots of lesson options, great pool for the family during open swim, they also offer aerobics.

Hawthorne Pool is a great public outdoor swimming pool with areas for babies / toddlers / children / kids as well as adults. We enrolled in the Swimming Class that is like a water acquaintance for toddlers, having done it for our child before he turned 1 last Summer and before he turned 2 this Summer, and the instructors / lifeguards who are supervising this class are mainly I think teenagers, who are ultra responsible, respectful, mature, and professional. I think the staff here are wonderful to interact with and I feel that they have a nurturing mentoring type attitude towards the kids, kind of like a big-sister / big-brother approach. The pool itself is nice, the water is chlorinated of course, for sanitary health purposes. The temperature of the water is good, a tad cold on cooler days, but I'm sure when the sun and heat of Summer is scorching it warms up fast. There's a shower area to rinse down before going into the pool and showing and cleaning after class, for both men and women (separate of course!). The parking lot fills up fast, incredibly fast, but there's lots of spaces, still walking distance, down towards the school. Overall, this venue offers swimming to all at an affordable price. The neighborhood is on the outskirts of the South Bay Beach Cities, so has a tad bit of inner-city urban aesthetic and demographic make-up, but everyone who has attended that we've encountered has been friendly.

Kids took a summer tiny tots class here. Absolutely loved it. The instructors truly made it fun and entertaining. 30 min course that goes by pretty fast. But for a 4 or 5 yr old its just enough time since thier attention span is short. The instructors test the kids on the first day to determine the level they will be in. Like floating unsupported front and back as well as basic skills such as freestyle swimming. Both of my girls don't have that. So they started at the bottem. oh my did this course help them big time. After two weeks they both float front and back and kind of do a freestyle which they still need to work on that. They will dive to retrieve things under water in 3 feet. Not deep diving and They aren't afraid of jumping into the pool with out assistance. They also tried to do a diving board jump with everyone in line and lots of lifeguards in the water to catch them. Sadly my girls were scared so they got dangled in. LOL it was a fun show for the parents to watch and give support. Very clean bathroom/showers and clean water. Lots and lots of life guard and instructors around. The class groups had about 7 kids max to 2 instructors. And a main life guard who paced the kids pool always watching for thier protection. Love this place. I wish we could do more. But my daughter has surgery in a few days and will have a cast for 2 months. Sadly this will prevent her from swimming anymore this summer. But will deff get back in it early next year and do it all. Enjoy and Stay Wild!

Great outdoor pool! I'm so grateful for this space where we can swim daily. It's both an excellent exercise for the body and a therapy for the mind and the emotions. The water is healing on many levels. It's a friendly place. I really enjoy it!

Large pool, tentative lifeguards, and it only cost $1 for children, $2 for adults. My only complaint is they only stay open from 1pm-3pm

Been here a couple times for SCUBA practice. Heated, but not hot. Nice pool for practicing, never crowded (except with SCUBA divers).

Hawthorne pool is great, old school family fun! Costs a dollar or two. Don't be too good to take the kids out and hop on in the pool!

It has shaded area in front on Grand w/picnic tables, grills in between tables & trash cans, although in one of my pics, you'll see that they aren't being used like they're suppose be. Playground area w/slide & swings and a nice community pool on the other side on Maryland. If I had small kids, I'd would've brought them here, simply for the area it's in, nice, safe family community, parks serenity, shaded areas w/a cool breeze and I always see the Police patrolling by. But there's Recreation park for more activities for the wee ones, of course you've also got ES beach and nearby Polliwog Park (Ok not nearby, but worth the drive) to venture off to with the family. But I must say this town offers a lot of activities for the kiddies, I don't know all of them because my kids are grown up now :(. Anyhow, you can see Rancho Palos Verdes from one side and if you walk around other side of water tower, you can see LAX planes (that's pretty much the whole city) & West LA from there.

Review #845 2025-017…read more George Mannon Aquatic Center (aka Torrance Aquatic Center) opened on Saturday, 03/03/18 with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony. Enter on the driveway between Honda Service Center & Starbucks, the aquatic center is between Torrance Elementary School & Shery High School. Eric Trujillo, former North HS student & design committee member, designed the facility's logo; the "Shield Marquee" is displayed at the entrance. The $15M project was made possible by Bond Measure U funds (approved in 11/2014), so this state-of-the-art pool has been long awaited by the community; yeah, I voted for this, not knowing my LO will be using the aquatic center 7 years later. She made her high school's JV swim team in her freshman year for the 2024-2025 school year with swim season held between mid-02/2025 - mid-04/2025. It's awe-inspiring to watch her & teammates race in this beautiful facility! The aquatic center has a 60-meter Olympic size competition & warm-up pools (both partially heated by solar panels) with 10 competition & 12 warm-up lanes, 600-seat spectator bleachers, separate lockers for TUSD's 4 high schools (Torrance, North, South, & West HS), & visiting teams changing room. There are showers available, but I'm told they're not working. While designed to allow 2 sports to be played simultaneously, her school competition schedule has not calendared concurrent competitions. The District Aquatic Programs include both water polo & swim, but no diving, in this proper world-class competitive facility. Upon entering, the far left pool is for water polo & swim meets, with middle & right pools are for practices. I thought I saw lessons for the younger set, but I could be wrong? According to USA Swimming, Swim Torrance is a local swim club that uses GMAC for training. Her team's locker room is 1 of 2 schools that's next to the competition pool. Time pads are a bit wonky since it's been 6 years, so H relies on the volunteer timers to record her times/splits. I wished they thought of building a snack shack by the NE corner near the water fountains, instead of using tents & foldable tables to set-up the snack stand. It's extra time needed by the parent volunteers for set-up & tear-down. The parking lot ginormous & is used by the aquatic center & also the adjacent baseball field. No diamond (prime) spaces by the entrance, but the circular driveway makes it easy for drop-offs & pick-ups unless the driver just parks their car, blocking others. \(`0´)/ The spectator bleachers have shade structures, but coverage is limited in the later afternoon/when the sun is setting unless you're sitting in the top/back row. We have to give props to The Plunge for their youth swim lessons to get her where she is today.

There is overhead coverage for the seating, but if it's the wrong time of day, you'll definitely be getting blasted by the sun straight in your face. We were able to get roof access to stream our event which was nice and have plenty of room for large tents, team seating and more. They also have nice meeting rooms where we tend to serve food to our athletes or hold team meetings.
