When it comes to indifferent staff this overpriced joint takes first prize. Their deli department…read morewas absolutely awful. Roast beef, hams and cooked poultry products looked like they were ready for the garbage can ( a while ago ). Obviously no qualified supervision, the two younger staff members completely ignored me while they continued their conversation. I did pass my observations on to a management associate who gave me the distinct impression he wasn't interested. I guess Jimmy Pattison ( the owner ) is quite content to offer dried deli products in this high priced store.

Our search brought us here. It's comfortable , has a good vibe and the people are very friendly and professional here. I almost feel that the service here is better than the ones in Vancouver. Could it be Vancouver has become snobbish? Quite possibly. I understand now why I have so many rally sport friends who like living here. Close to nature. Great roads to drive on. It looks like their cold cuts are more than just German ones (European in general) and actually, I found that they are missing a lot of the favorites I grew up eating from Germany. Maybe it was the day I was there? It was a Saturday in the later part of the morning so they may have already been out. There's a bakery next door that also has a lot of great European rolls/breads and even desserts but also mixed in are North American treats as well so as much as this probably started out as an authentic German bakery and deli, it's now turned into a heavily German influenced bakery and deli. Still, for Kelowna, it's a good find for German products. Like many German delis, prices on packaged goods are obviously high as they are imports but where else are you going to find these products anyhow? The place is busy, kept clean, and the staff was helpful. A bit of confusion with the numbering system when we were there, but it happens.

I regretted tipping. Lesson learned - never tip before completing a meal and having the full experience. We waited about 20 mins for coffee. When we followed up, she said "it's coming"; and went about standing there doing nothing. This is insane. Food wasn't great but at least the bread and veggies were fresh. Coffee sucked. Sadly, we threw it away. It felt like the leftover at the end of a brewing pot when we paid for and expected a luscious latte. Not going back. Not a nice vibe. Sad.
