It took 3 phone calls to finally get him to do a service call. He was not only rude on the phone but even more so in person. I should have paid closer attention to the other reviews. He seemed to think he had previously done a repair on my door (which he hadn't). He also told me I just needed a new battery for the key pad (after I had already told him it wasn't the battery). After going back and forth he then proceeded to tell me that my garage door was a piece of junk that contractors typically install and he doesn't work on those from the big box stores (which mine is not from a big box store). Wow I've never had a business not recommend themselves faster. I called at 4:42pm because of the different businesses in town, this was one of two open till 5. I called, they answered, I said, "hi I'm calling about a broken garage door." The person scoffed, "at 4:42 in the afternoon?" I said, could have sworn you were open till 5 but have a nice day and I hung up. Can't say if they do good work but I can say they're customer service can use an overhaul. read more

He then used very degrogatory language ( i.e., f*** y**) when I told him I was going with another company because he did not follow-up as indicated by him, not even a follow-up phone call. I googled garage door repair near me this company came up I dialed the number a guy named Howard answered the phone. I told him I was from Paris and I needed garage door repair he then said Paris????!!!! How did you get my number I then told him I got it from the internet and I googled it near me he then replied I would not dream of driving to Paris for a garage door repair and hung up on me I think this is very poor customer service that is my opinion and that is my review maybe I caught him in a bad mood. read more

I called the company and Mr. Helmuth answered right away, fairly early on a week day. He came out at the end of that day, and we agreed on the work. He was ready to replace my door on Saturday (two days later), but then I changed the style of door I wanted. He made the special order, and carried out the work as soon as it came in. Incredible and unbelievable service. Called late around 7:30 pm with a stuck door (husband ran into the door while backing out because he hit the button twice on accident), and arrived an hour later (fairly certain he left his dinner at home). FIXED IT IN FIFTEEN MINUTES for an amazing fair price. Did I mention we had a quote for 18x as much from another company earlier in the day for a new door? Courteous, quick, and basically could diagnose and fix the problem expeditiously. Did not try to sell me a new door, and could fix our problem with his technical skills. In addition, when he was driving away, I closed/opened the door in preparation to drive my car inside...he came back and wanted to perfect the seal at the bottom of the door so that it was equal across the entire door. Called him to replace a spring and he broke the metal plate that held my garage door opener in place. So then I had to replace the garage door opener. He left my place before the garage door was reset, I believe because he knew he broke the plate and didn't want to be there. I ended up calling someone else who confirmed he broke it then he was upset that I hadn't called him to replace it. Why would I want to hire him again? He fixed my garage door and touch pad by the door. Wonderful customer service, he even changed the garage door opener light bulb. We live in SW Champaign and had both torsion springs break. We were unable to lift the door and get one of our vehicles out. Torsion springs can be expensive to repair. I was very impressed with the level of service I received. The owner of the company repaired our garage door, was honest with regard to when he could come, and was also very reasonably priced and knew what the heck he was doing!!!! Great service! My door has been extremely loud for some time, and we were under the impression it was the door. We couldn't afford to replace the door, so we let it go and just dealt with the noise. We called Helmuth, and someone was there that day to assess the problem. He said it was not the door, but the motor. He came back the next day and replaced it. Now I'm always questioning whether the door is closing because it's so quiet. The tech was great, and even answered the many questions of a fascinated 4 year old had who wanted to watch. Arrived promptly on a Saturday pm to replace a broken cable. Went right to work and then the cursing, bad-mouthing the original installer, and throwing tools started. Seem to know what he was doing, but was rude, crude, and careless with his tools, words, and sprayed my painted wall with wd 40 as he "lubricated" the spring. He criticized me for watching him work. Repair was made, but I will not use him again. Not worth the stress or drama he causes. read more

I recently bought a home in Champaign. Before we moved in there was a huge electrical storm which caused a power surge in our garage which needed to have the GFI to be reset. Being unfamiliar with the systems, I called Helmuth Garage Door. The owner showed up and told me that I needed an electrician and it would cost me $495 for a new garage door opener. I was suspicious when he told me that he was on-call not for the money, but because he was bored on a Saturday morning. I called another garage door company and they came out and reset the door, my openers and didn't charge me. Helmuth was suggesting that I needed all new outlets in my garage. The man is a fraudster and preys on people. He is as dishonest as they come, don't hire him. Ever. He had the nerve to come back to my house after I didn't call him to ask me when he could do the work. When I told him that it just needed to be reset, he didn't blink an eye, just turned and walked back to his truck. read more

He told me very rudely that "I don't install someone else's garage door opener" and hanged up on me without even letting me say anything!! What a professionalism!! i called a garage door referral service listed on my computer to repair my broken spring on my garage door! a man called me back and said he would be at my home that afternoon! well, so far! so good!...but when the man came, he was very rude to me! he was obnoxious!!!...talked to me like i was an idiot!!!....and told me i wasn't listening to him!!!....in a harsh tone!!!...he did fix my broken spring but i will always remember to never call him or this company ever again!!! i will never be spoken to like this again by someone like that!!!!!.............and after reading other comments here, i can see how they were treated badly, too!!!...we, the public may not be as smart as this guy, but, where i live people treat me kindly.....especially my former students and teachers where i worked in the schools here for the past 15 years before i retired!!!!! read more
