Totally fun!!! Taking a dance class is something that I never thought I would ever do again - last time I was in dance I was in 7th grade, about 200 lbs, and cried when I had to dance in front of other people. My great friend Taylor decided that she wanted to give this class a shot (they had a $15 groupon) and talked me into it. I'll do anything for the promise of Margaritas. We were laughing and joking all the way there. Then when we got there and saw all the perfectly skinny b****es we began to feel a little bit nervous. We were joking about sticking to the back, our bellys jiggling, and not being able to get up off the floor. Lets just say compared to some of the women here we did not feel too sexy at the beginning (especially the blonde that was helping out with the class. She was like the definition of perfect). The instructors really put us at ease though. They let us know that this was not so much the "traditional" burlesque but moreso a CONTEMPORARY burlesque class - it was something different than I was expecting, but still amazingly fun! The class was compiled of a small group of all women. There were bachelorette parties, small groups of friends, and some women who were really serious and you could tell that they were going to put their $15 to use and seriously get their freak on after that class. It was revitalizing to see that 95% of the class showed up in sweatpants and tank tops - except for the few women that showed up in booty shorts. I'll say it once and I'll say it again. Skinny b****es ! We started off with some stretches and leg lifts. I had just gotten off an 8 hour shift of carrying around 30 lbs of gear and a kevlar vest so at times I felt like I couldn't lift my legs off the floor. There were stretches and moves that I hadn't done since high school cheer. Yet the instructors made sure to reiterate that everything was okay, and that everyone has their own level of what they are able to do and not feel bad. We learned some awesomely sexy moves such as the "sexy hair shake" (which I suppose only works if you've brushed your hair that day...), "sexy leg kicks" (think Bettie Page taking off her stockings), and the "sexy way to get off the floor" (arch your back and smile - always smile - scowling your face does not look sexy even though if you're out of shape like me your core will hurt!). We also did the sexy catwalk in groups of 3/4 across the room. Despite our best efforts Taylor and I were trying to stay together but we always ended up apart. It was fun to give ourselves kudos and complements as we strutted to some old school Britney. The fun part of the class came when we learned the burlesque dance. It had several 8 counts to it and was to a very, very, very sexy TLC song. There was booty shaking - hair flipping, leg spreading, tata shaking, and sexy strutting! It was super fun to learn and the instructors broke it down to nice simple combinations and went at the speed of the slowest person in the class (which was mostly me!). Although I am not very refined, and my version of "sexy" also included my knees cracking so loudly and me grunting when I was trying to get up that everyone erupted in laughter (even me!) I still had such an amazing time in this class. By the time the class had finished I had mastered (well in my mind....which is what counts!) a good portion of the dance and I felt a lot sexier than when I went in. I really recommend it to any lady that would love to try it and trust me bring a friend, take some shots before hand, and you will have a seriously great time! read more

OMG! did this a few months ago and it was way awesome fun! I forget the girls name who taught our class of about 20 or so girls but we had an amazing time. Although I felt a bit clumsy, at the end of the class I felt I might be able to pull off a routine! So my galpal Beth and I took our so's to have some fun at this class. I highly recommend it. We did a private class for 7 people for a bachelorette party this weekend and I don't think I can say enough amazing things about it! I will start off by saying that I have not been feeling my sexiest lately (grad school means no gym), and I have no dance capabilities, so I was all together feeling a bit apprehensive about shaking my stuff, even though it was going to be only in front of friends. Cut to half way through class and we were laughing, giving the mirror bedroom eyes, and having the time of our lives. I don't think a single one of us was uncomfortable once we got started. Jaime is an incredible teacher who instantly makes you feel at ease. She's encouraging, funny, and adorable as all get out. Plus, her playlist was rockin' it the whole time (I appreciated that it had a lot of variety and some more rock songs than I anticipated). She gave so many cute little tips throughout class about how to feel sexy at home-- it's not just about pulling out the sexy dance moves! With the private class you start with the basic moves, you learn a short dance with a feather boa, one with elbow gloves, another with an oversized men's shirt, and finally one on the chair. I have no memory for dance steps, but you learn the moves individually, then just follow Jaime along in the mirror as she puts the simple steps together. If I can do it, you can do it! As a sweet parting gift, we got to *keep* the feather boas (yes, I rocked it back down Hollywood towards the parking lot) and the bride was given a gift bag with a white feather boa, a garter and other items plus a bottle of champagne. Like I said, we had such a blast. It's so hard to feel self-conscious and uncomfortable when the moves are so easy and the teacher is so encouraging and fun. Now I'll have to go find them to see an official Hell's Belles show! Final word: if you are looking for a fun bachelorette (birthday, whatever) party idea, look no further, because this was awesome and ask for Jaime! ---- Only things to note: park at Hollywood and Highland, but the class was held at IDA, which is east on Hollywood-- cross Highland to the next block over and then it's a sort of hidden door with a doorbell. Go upstairs through a mildly creepy staircase and hallway and the lobby will be on your left. read more

Had a blast this Sunday for the intro Burlesque class. The ladies were so friendly, and broke everything down for us beginners. We learned how to get on the floor while looking sexy and making it look flawless. A few leg kicks, definitely some head rolls, hair flips a must! We were put into groups of 3 and sashayed across the floor (legs, hips, eyes, hair). While sashaying we learned how to caress the body, neck and head. We even learned a routine which was awesome and exciting. Very, very sexy and all confidence! This class re-awoke some of my muscles I haven't been using, lol. So sore today!! Am glad I found you and will continue until I'm considered a pro. They offer weekly evening classes for beginners (Thursday) and intermediate (Tuesday) and workshop packages. My only issue was finding parking (I wasn't aware of IDA parking validation on Highland/Hollywood so paid $20 for public parking) and the entrance is a little hard to find (black door next to Fredericks of Hollywood - Buzz for entrance). We went to their intro class because we got a Living Social deal. Be aware that if you get a deal, to sign up early they are slow to respond. You want to make sure you have ample time for their response. In addition, sometimes they will change their classes if they do not have enough people signed up. My sign up experience with them was a bit rough, but they were kind enough to give us a complimentary class because of it. When we took the actual class, it was a lot of fun. I actually really enjoyed the class and the teacher. She was very good and attentive, and it was just a lot of fun. An easy work out. If only the process to sign up for a class were easier, I would've been totally in love with this. Either way though, I did enjoy the class, and I think it's worth a try. read more

I've been taking Burlesque workshops with Alikat Rose of the Hell's Belles for about 8 months, and I LOVE it! As a teacher she is energetic, playful, and encouraging, and as a performer she sizzles. Through her classes I've learned how to do sexy isolations, gained strength and tone, and learned super hot choreography. I've also met an incredible community of vivacious, beautiful, inspiring women: the other ladies who take the classes, and the other Belles (who have done guest teaching, and whose performances I've seen). Ali creates a welcoming environment in her workshops. After she carefully breaks down any technicalities in the moves, she helps you forget them by infusing ATTITUDE into each movement. Wether your inner Burlesque Goddess is flirty, aggressive, cutesy, vintage, glamorous and/or combinations/variations of the above, she helps to pull that character out of you. Like other Yelpers, I was drawn in by their Groupon for an intro class. Overall I enjoyed the experience! But the class was a little crowded and the room a bit small for all of us to strut our stuff. For those looking to learn Burlesque, this would be a wonderful place; the instructors are sweet and there's also group sessions during the week. PS- Park at H&H (they validate) and leave a little time before the class to find your way to the right room, and to chat with your classmates. Recently I purchased the groupon for the three workshop series with Hells Belles Burlesque. I had never taken a Burlesque class before so I didn't really know what exactly I was getting into, but I wanted to give it a shot. I have to say that I had tons of fun and I would highly recommend to anyone curious about burlesque to either take this workshop series or attend their open level Thursday night classes. My instructor was Natasha V, and she was great. She was really good at explaining the mechanics of the burlesque moves, and a great teacher overall, warming us up, teaching basics, answering questions, and helping us learn a short choreographed sequence. She was also super knowledgeable about the genre of burlesque and gave us a little bit of a historical overview as well as an understanding of the current landscape of burlesque. I also really liked that she did some improvisation and had us follow her. Honestly, I've been looking into taking burlesque classes anywhere and whenever I can fit it into my schedule after this class. I know I'll definitely be stopping by soon on Tuesday and Thursday nights to take class with the Hells Belles. read more

Our teacher (whose name I apologize for not being able to remember, I took the class a little while ago) was amazing. This group is full of 5 of the most sweetest, most accomodating girls. I came here with 2 friends for a class one friday night. It was super fun, and they go over the steps as many times as you need till you get the moves just right. It was a great place to meet other peeps, and def a great experience to try right before drinks out on the town. You dont get too sweaty which is good, and these girls can keep the dancing going as long as you want. Only negative, was that the hollywood dance facility was a bit hard to find while walking down hollywood in my sweats. give this place a try at least once though! read more

Love Hells Belles! The weekly classes are great workouts. I just wish we could continue learning a dance the next week. Usually it's a different dance if it's a different instructor. All the instructors are great, but I have my favorites. The introductory class is fun, but I suggest just going to a weekly one. You'll learn just as much. Parking is validated. Hells Belles Burlesque is really an exceptional group. I produced a short film where we needed a burlesque dancer, so my job was to go to burlesque shows to find a dancer who would be the right fit. (Why can't all jobs be this fun??) After seeing a number of burlesque shows in NYC and L.A., I went to see Hells Belles at Rainbow Bar and Grill in West Hollywood. They were great. They were polished, sexy and classy, and had the right blend of intensity and fun. I asked Jaime to be in our short and she was amazing. Incredibly dedicated and great to work with. Hells Belles stands out because they are trained dancers who clearly love burlesque and are committed to putting on a great show. The shows at the Del Monte Speakeasy at Townhouse Bar in Venice on Wednesday nights are great because they have room to move and the setting really suits them. Definitely check them out! read more

I took a Burlesque Intro through Living Social, and I LOVED it. We warmed up, went over a few moves, and then learned choreography. We added in feather boas at the end for a little extra sass and playfulness. They were super flexible and accommodating (I had to switch my class several times on them) and they always got back to me promptly. There was no hard sell at the end of the intro class, but they did inform us of other classes/shows they have going. As a result, I'm definitely going to look into taking more classes with them. - Parking: I parked at the Hollywood/Highland structure and walked to IDA (the Dance Studio - they validate). Highly recommend their classes! I can't speak to their shows, as I haven't seen one. But I plan to rectify that soon! read more

I love Hells Belles Burlesque! Their shows are classy, sexy and totally rock and roll so it's right up my alley. I've been taking Alikat Rose's class for few years now and I love her style and the way she teaches. I have also taken a class here and there with the other girls and they are all fabulous in different ways. They really all do have their own style so you get a little something different from each of them. Ali's definitely played a big part in my progress as a dancer/performer! Heart her and all of the Belles. I take Ali's class at Luscious Maven in Studio City, but they also have a few other classes offering different levels at IDA in Hollywood. I purchased a Groupon for the 3 Week Burlesque Workshop in July. The night before the first class I received an e-mail from Ali saying: " I apologize for the late notice, but I was just informed that our studio will be unavailable the next two Saturdays due to a last minute filming rental. Unfortunately, this means that we will need to reschedule our rockstar workshop which was supposed to start tomorrow. I sincerely apologize if this causes any inconvenience, and please feel free to email me if you have any questions. I will send out a schedule of upcoming workshops tomorrow afternoon so that we can get you all rescheduled for your workshop series." Fine, stuff happens. I'm reasonable. A few days pass and there still is no e-mail from them with the new schedule. I send them 2 e-mails basically saying I just want a head's up for when they think the new classes might be so I don't overbook my Saturdays. No response. Time passes and I call them. No one picked up. I combed through my deleted e-mails/spam folder. Nothing from them that I may have missed. Plus if that 3rd class happened, I did not hear about it. I messaged Groupon asking for a refund. I heard this place is great from a friend, but this is beyond bad costumer service. read more

Great experience overall. My friends and I were trying to throw an affordable bachelorette party, so we opted for a 13 dollar public class rather than the bachelorette only class, which would have made all of our bachelorette expenses a bit much. Please know that the beginner class is taught out of the international dance school in Hollywood. There are many other classes taught there, including the ghetto stiletto. Check that one out if you can, it looked fabulous. We showed up about 10 minutes early and the check in process was easy- plenty of time to change and get on the dance floor. We wanted to dress sexy to get in the mood for burlesque so we brought a bunch of lingerie with us and got the go ahead to put it on. There was about 12-15 people in class with us, even a couple! The guy was non threatening and tried just as hard as any of us to get his groove on. I loved the instructor; she was friendly, fun and made us all comfortable getting in touch with our inner vixens. The class consisted of a warm up- great core work! Then we did some sexy warm up moves and walked across the dance floor- this was fun and we got to take our girls on a walk if you know what I mean. The routine we learned was accessible and fun to perform. I would definitely recommend this class to anyone looking to bust out of their shell. read more
