Hair in food
Chee C.

Came here based on a friend's recommendation. Was it worth the drive to Waterdown? No, unfortunately. The restaurant doesn't have a good smell and the cashier wasn't rude but far from nice. The chicken itself is juicy but greasy and flacid, not crispy at all. Wasn't appreciative of the hair in my food either. Pic included. I wanted to post an amazing review but my experience was less than average, sadly.

Incredible chicken sandwich and impossibly nice staff. Hello Iris is a true gem in the heart of Waterdown.

Check out this cool and funky diner in the downtown core in Hamilton. I went with 2 gal pals and we…read morehad a bit of a wait for a table on Sunday, but not too bad! I think it was about 15 min. Fun vibe & good energy inside with neat art work! Staff is friendly. Menu has something for everyone! Mini pancakes, benny, French toast, chicken & waffles and several different toasts (think avocado or cacio e Pepe!) and smoothies. If you like specialty coffees, you are in for a treat since they have a fun option for a mini coffee flight! They also have a kids menu!

Entry is a single door with a ramp on the inside. Servers were quick to seat my friend and I. Service was polite and timely. We both ordered our own "Teenage Feast" which included Two eggs prepared to your taste, thick cut bacon, sausage, choice of toast, served with dutch mini pancakes, butter parsley home fries / salad or half & half. I opted for scrambled eggs, home fries, and rye (they also had sourdough as an option!) The meal was very filling, could definitely be shared between two peckish people or saved as left overs for later. Meal has a blend of sweet and savoury, leaning more on the sweet side. The sausage is sweeter than others (I enjoy this but I know it's not for everyone. The Dutch pancakes are so cute and little, coated in icing sugar, and served with maple syrup on the side to dip. For drinks I ordered the Maple Foam Cold Brew. Make sure to stir/not put your straw at the bottom of the drink or you'll get a hit of maple! Once it's stirred it tastes great. I'll definitely be back to try more of the menu (I'm eyeing the coffee flights)!

The servings are hearty and the food is really good, but nothing fancy. On our first visit, we ordered a veggie omelette and a 3-cheese omelette and shared them. Both were delicious and piping hot, with a large serving of home fries on the side and an orange slice. They're also served with toast, but we didn't bother as there was no gluten-free option (which we prefer). Regardless, it was TONS of food and I wasn't even able to finish it despite having no toast. On our second visit, I had the omelette special, with a little bit of everything in it and again it was a HUGE serving which I couldn't finish and it was delicious. My husband had steak and eggs and his was a hearty serving too. He couldn't even look at food until around 8pm that night, which shows you what a huge amount of protein he had. The servers are very friendly and efficient and the restaurant is clean, as are the washrooms. As diners go, I'd say this is definitely one of the better ones and if we're in the Waterdown area again, looking for breakfast we'll most likely return.

The food is really good however, both in presentation and taste. Service wise, the staff was very friendly and polite, although there was a 20 ish minute wait for a seat for 2 and another 25 minute wait to get the food. Granted we did go on a Sunday at 11 am so it was probably the busiest time of the week and the kitchen is perhaps on the smaller side. The ambiance itself is pretty homey, street parking isn't too hard to find. They sell some near merch and also source bread locally from a bakery nearby. Their patio was closed in the winter but definitely seems like a great spot in the summer. Overall, I enjoyed the place. The lack of non pork protein options keeps me away, but should that change, I'd like to revisit the patio in the summer. Should the protein options expand and wait times be reduced on my next visit, I'll be sure to update my review!

We loved the salad and scarfed it down - super crisp, awesome textures, tangy yum. I love their pasta so much and it's fun to see how they prepare and serve it. The shrimp were super small which made eating the dish easier. The flavors were delicious and I was left with lots of extra sauce. I should have asked for a side of bread to soak it up. I had a delicious highball with root beer and fernet. Service was excellent as usual. Love the vibes and tunes. The patio is gorgeous as well. Looking forward to more. Bonus points for serving the surrounding neighborhood - very convenient, needed, reliably fresh and delicious.

You enter in to see clean, modern aesthetic cafe vibes and a rack of freshly baked sourdough from Dear Grain. The cafe connects to its outdoor seating area and feels a bit like a secret garden. There's a variety of baked goods, food, and drinks to choose from. Their espresso tends to be on the mellower side - I think it's a medium body, mild & balanced, and pairs well with milk. If you're into pour overs, Detour has an incredible selection of their own coffee bean roasts. Not a coffee fan? No problem. I also recommend this spot to pick up the best artisan style sourdough I've had in this area (if you're not close to Dear Grain Commissary in downtown Hamilton). Crunchy crust and the softest sourdough inside. Perfect for a fancy sandwich or to add to a charcuterie board! You won't regret it.
