Such a mix of good and bad!…read more The good: Beautiful old historic building with elegant lobby, beautifully appointed restaurant and views to die for. They have a museum of 10 huge, historic cars from 1918 to the mid 1930's. They have a wonderful outside pool, overlooking the Fjord. All of the public spaces are 10 out of 10. The bad: I get it; it's an old historic hotel, but that doesn't excuse these blunders when it comes to the hotel room. They have NO backup roll of toilet paper. This is an issue when you run out! Also, we ran out of tissues. No back up. There were no drinking glasses in the bathroom, or in the room (only a coffee cup). The one window swing open from the bottom, but won't stay open. I had to use a coffee stirrer to prop it open. The only USB port in the room were wobbly wall mounts and I found didn't charge my phone overnight. There are NO live outlets that aren't switched off will wall switches, which mean no charging from then unless you leave the wall switch on and turn the lamps off manually. Also, all power is lost when remove your key card, so no charging when you leave the room. No paper or open to make notes. Most if these oversights have nothing to do with being an old hotel. They obviously have pride for the hotel and public spaces, nut put little effort into room usability.

The restaurants are good, a little pricey, but very good. There is a car museum in the basement that is free to check out, and I recommend if you're in the area you should definitely take a peek.

Additionally, the food is absolutely incredible. I have been to the Gloppen many times and the food never disappoints. They serve a a lot of traditional Norwegian cuisine which is fun to experience the culture. One of my favorite meals here is the white fish. It is so fresh and always cooked to perfection. Last night I had the scallops with a tomato compote for an appetizer, steak served with potatoes and a raspberry sorbet with a molten chocolate cake for dessert. I was in heaven. See the attached pictures. I will absolutely be back and recommend everyone travel to experience Sandane and the Gloppen Hotell!

Gloppen Hotel has served as a wonderful base for exploring the fjords, mountains and wonderful countryside. We spent yesterday in Lovatnet and today hiking in the mountains. It was perfect to come back to the hotel and relax on the front lawn and look out at the fjord. The food is amazing and will not disappoint. The menu is all local ingredients prepared on site. Even the beer is made here! The decor is tasteful and reminds you of the fishing history and strong people who have lived in this village for generations. Thank you to the wonderful staff, we will be back!

To me…read moreit's more like a bed and breakfast because there are only 16 rooms and a wonderful breakfast is included (see photos) with homemade bread, homemade preserves, eggs with chives, camembert with nuts and honey, salmon, proscuitto, and (my daughter's favorite!): reindeer sausage! The new owners and staff provided service as excellent as the facility, room, and food! In fact, the food was so good that a Russian billionaire came for lunch one of the days we were there (but we were hiking so we didn't see him). We felt truly cared for by all the staff. Even the cleaning ladies were smiling and helpful, giving our kids a few extra pieces of candy. The view is fantastic, and we loved the fire pit outside with the picnic tables and the stream running in the back yard (you can take a dip if you're brave!) Hosts are warm, friendly and helpful. Location is not in town so you probably need a car or can take a bus that stops at the hotel. Very convenient to the Trollstigen. Definitely recommend this place for hotel or dinner.

A wonderful dinner was prepared by a young and cute chef! Great indian pale ale, and lovely red wine to go with the dinner! Simple but practical rooms. Good beds and a great shower! Breakfast was gourgeous! Home made bread and individual servings of scrambled eggs/salmon/preserves/etc. Truly a gem in Norway!

It is a small sized room. The beds are European sized (small) and a fold out couch bed for the third person ( not the greatest bed option). The mattresses are very soft and without support for your back. The room is not air conditioned. In May- June and beyond, it may require you to open your balcony door as we did. Warning: little flying insects may want to hang out with you if you keep your balcony door open. ; ) However, the cooling fjord air is delightful. The bathroom is very small and the walk in shower cube measures @ 3 1/2 feet by 3 1/2 feet. Good water pressure and hot and cold temperatures. The shower cube is a fold out door system. Be prepared to have water sprayed and leaked everywhere after your shower. It was a mess to put it mildly. Watch out for slipping! The lighting system is interesting here. There are box shaped switches that you press to turn on and off the various lights in your room. Lights will turn off automatically at times. Closet has enough space for jackets and robes. Robes and room slippers are provided for your use by the hotel. Window views from the third floor are gorgeous and you can see the fjords and mountains. This alone was worth the stars. Overall, the room doesn't have much space to walk around in room. It's nice that there is a balcony with chairs and a table to sit outside and enjoy the view. There is a desk which is helpful for computer use. There is also a small refrigerator that holds drinks, which you may purchase. Service: Friendly and accommodating. Family run hotel. A 14 year old brought up our luggage. You may ask the front desk to freeze your ice packs and store medicine if needed. Nice lobby, library, and artwork around hotel. Walking distance to a convenience store market named the Joker Leon. Restrooms located throughout the hotel. There is a children's playground also located in the hotel. I would've rated this hotel a 4 star rating if there wasn't a fold out bed and a larger bathroom and shower.

Dinner had more meat options. A la carte was good. The rooms are cute, but don't justify for the price. We found a tick in the room. The sales manager said maybe it came with us. No "we will investigate", no "this is a surprise for us", no reaction, no mortification... nothing that let me know that this was a rate, unusual, isolated situation. Just got told that it would be good for me to check because it might have come with us. The huge extra Large tick as nasty as can be. On my kids and I. I am so upset. It surprises me that a hotel has absolutely no customer service "face" to deal with complications. Really bad. Not coming back. It was a first and last.
