There are laws in place about noise, property damage, and risk to someone's health and life. All which get ignored in favor of money. Which they are losing money because neighbors wanna drop bowling balls, move furniture, break pipes, get into screaming matches in 3-4 in the morning, on going through out the day for 15+ hours day and night, for more than three years. Upstairs avoid the cops, landowners and management. When those groups get called on them for causing noise complaints. Avoid this and Hekemian & Co. They'll block you when you got valid complaints over your neighbors breaking the law. read more

I have been a tenant at the Stueben Arms in River Edge for 14yrs, and I am so disappointed how off the mark Hekemain has become when it comes to doing right by their tenants and property standards. Ever since Covid they have adopted a money hungry mindset that truly is over the top . I occupy one of the older units that has not had any remodeling or upgrades done in decades, but Every year my rent is raised 4%. Hekemian refuses to cap rent increases for these older units which I feel is predatory. We as tenants are getting less and less service, but the rent keeps going up. Management has begun to nickel and dime all of its residents by taking away almost all visitor parking and turning them into paid spots that tenants could rent. When the last two on sight property managers quit, they only filled one of the spots and this has created a lack in up keep all over the complex. Trash is all over the property and left for days, the laundry rooms are filthy and are not cleaned regularly, as are the washing machines which are also filthy and filled with dog /cat hair from previous washes so clothes are not being fully cleaned, yet they have increased the prices on all laundry machines. It's a blatant money grab, and when property management is approached about all of the above they wait weeks to respond to ultimately give the oh well sorry this is what we have to do to make money spiel.... My lease is coming up for renewal and it kills me to think that I may have to stay one more year and bear the $800 more I have to pay a year. I love my neighbors but the blatant greed is just too much for me to accept. If you can find another management company to rent from, do it. read more

This building 215 Clinton place Hackensack is a wonderful space with awesome neighbors however the heat barely comes on. It's 9:00 am Saturday morning and the temperature say 9 degrees outside.and the heating system hasn't come on one time this am. I've tried to resolution and yes management definitely replies every time on time but they say the temperature setting are within building guidelines sooooo basically whatever. Makes me sad and I feel defeated. read more

The management and maintenance guy at Boulders of Rockaway are unprofessional. They allow tenants to harass other tenants and make you feel uncomfortable living here. I have spoken to the manager on several occasions and he keeps getting mad at me because his job is so stressful. I don't understand why he is a manager if he can not handle the complaints. Unfortunately, some people have no choice but to stay. I do not recommend living here and don't trust the maintenance guy. I still have problems being harassed on a daily basis from another tenant, but no one can do anything about it. She always tells a different story that is not true. It's a shame that this management company allows this to happen. :( I have to put cameras up and I have to keep my lights off at night so they don't see me. The tenant still comes close to my windows pretending she is walking her dog but still looks in my windows. She also hides behind the storage building so no one can see her looking in my apartment so she can see what I am doing. I came home last Saturday night and I was coming out of my car and the tenant was walking out of the building, and she screamed at me and said not to look at her. I try at all costs not to be anywhere she is, but sometimes it's hard not to. I do not deserve to be bullied and harassed everyday all because I had to put in a complaint about her loud banging noises. Now, she does not leave me alone. I am an educated professional, mother and grandmother, and I never seen such low class people in my life. It's appalling!!! On January 18th had to put in a harassment complaint to the police about everything that has been going on. Recently, I saw a man walking around my windows. He had dark sunglasses and had a beats headset on. He was wearing white pants and and white t-shirt with a black long sleeve shirt under the t-shirt. Normally, I wouldn't care but he kept staring at my windows and then sat inside the go-cart that the maintenance guy had outside then he walked away. It was very suspicious. I never saw this guy anywhere on the premises before. I reported this as well. This morning, January 29th, my camera caught a suspicious man going behind the storage unit this morning at 6:00am. He covered his head with a hoodie. It was hard to see his face. read more

I rent at Boulders of Rockaway. The worst place to live. Management ignores your emails. They never get back to you. I am having problems with the loud noise and banging with a tenant above me. They have a dog and they bang day and night. The dog barks constantly. They are now doing it on purpose. The management does nothing about it. They think putting padding under the areal rugs will work, but it doesn't. The management gives tenants with dogs more leniency and people like me who pay a lot of rent no respect. The management needs to put a tougher policy for people with dogs from Boulders of Rockaway. I banged on the walls so they would stop and the guy came down and banged on my door aggressively. I had to put a harassment complaint against him, and he still bangs and runs with the dog upstairs. Apparently, he can make noise but I can't bang on the walls. I don't understand. Don't come here. Rent increases every year no matter what. Had to move because I got priced out. Before leaving, I called to ask questions to someone at Hekemian and verbally told them my intent to vacate. I was NOT reminded that this needed to be submitted in written form when I spoke to the person with Hekemian. I'm being charged 2k rent for an extra month even though I don't live in the apartment anymore. Very disappointed in the ruthlessness and the lack of empathy with Hekemian. This practice of theirs is extremely predatory. How am I supposed to remember the fine print on a lease I signed more than 3 years ago? A reminder would have been nice when I gave my verbal notice to vacate. read more

This company is solely concerned about making money. Their Pineview Apartments in Bogota has been an extremely stressful, unsatisfying living experience. The building is not insulated so prepare to hear everything that your neighbors are doing. When Hekemian is contacted about these issues, they will do an entire run around without any solution. Multiple requests were put in to fix small issues in the apartment that took weeks for a response. This company doesn't care about its tenants. read more

I have been living in this beautiful community for almost 10 years. At that time there was only 1 building manager named Bill. He ran this place alone with no complaints on my part. After he retired we now have a wonderful manager named Smiley and his crew. As I see it, we "tenants" want things done in the "now" and are very needy. Many complain about the most silly things that should not waste anyone's valuable time. Most are and can be rude, and disrespectful. In my opinion, I think the buildings need some upgrades such as vents in the bathroom. The one-bedroom apartment is a girl's dream come true. It is spacious and has lots of closets. If you choose to have a garage - you can have that too, the cost of it is very reasonable compared to the newer buildings at Main Street. The rent is still reasonable considering that we are located in Bergen County, Hackensack. It's not cheap to live in decent, beautiful, and attentive management. Smiley goes beyond his duties to get everything done. I can afford to move somewhere else. However, I choose to stay right here, where it is safe, the maintenance of upkeeping the outside and outside with the exception of having a vent in the bathroom. Yes, the walls are thin, you can have loud neighbors. But you can do something about it nowadays. They sell sound- boards nowadays for apartments that are inexpensive. You can't control someone being loud - maybe they are hard of hearing. Talk to your neighbor and ask politely if they can lower the music or whatever the case may be. read more

Someone I knew told everyone at one of their properties they were moving out at the end of their lease with over a months notice. The renter spoke to the super, the landlord, everyone, and the building told them it was good to go. The building demanded the person vacate the storage unit and the renter handed the keys over on the day of their move out. The property then charged the renter another month for not relaying this through the mail. During the coronavirus pandemic and with full knowledge the renter was unemployed. They also charged them another month for the storage unit despite demanding they leave. They threatened to send this bill to collections. Here's a side story that I think the city will love to hear. Some crazy person literally spread human feces all over a hallway wall of the building. Though the building claimed they cleaned it up, the stains of the human feces strung out through fingers remained on the walls for FIVE. MONTHS. They didn't paint over it. They didn't clean it up. Do not rent from these vultures. read more

If you have any common sense, do not move into any property managed by this company. They are only good for collecting rent and responding to bad reviews with " oh we are so sorry, I'm confident we can turn this around," but that's about as far as they go to make anything right. We have lived under some of the noisiest neighbors known to mankind and they have done absolutely NOTHING. The supers are the only reputable people who earn their pay and benefits, these people do not care about the people that keep them in business. Throughout this long tumultuous we have received no empathy, no action, and no retribution. Learn from my mistake and rent elsewhere. Once they lock you into a contract you're done, no one SHOULD EVEN look at apartment number 7 at the Pineview Apartments in Bogota unless you want to hang out and hear the noise. The freight train is obsolete compared to the noise above this apartment and the people who make noise in the laundry room. They have known about the neighbors in apartment 13 for quite sometime, they only act surprised because well only God and they know why. Terrible experience, but hopefully someone reads this and this apartment is available forever because No one should have to suffer what my sister and I did over this long year. The neighbors deny every claim although we have video evidence, you come here and you won't find integrity, only frustration and anger. read more

The carriage community is beautiful where I actually wanna to raise my son and for my wife and i to feel comfortable coming home to a peaceful quite place, BUT we felt used by a company called Hekemain. When i had a good credit score, a nice bank account and great income, charged me $100 for application fee 1 day later i had to be on top of them asking for update 8 hrs later they tell me i need a co-signer i get my sister who makes well over $85k a 700+ score i paid another $100 for application fee & 3 day later 5 calls to Marissa a email to get a call back saying my sister and i are DENIED! So we felt used and robbed then 2 minutes later apartment is back up on the site. Don't go there if you are a miniorty or if you coming from the city they will steal your money!! read more
