The water main into my house was leaking and needed to be replaced. It's an expensive job that no homeowner wants to deal with or pay for but you don't really have a choice unless you want to keep getting $600 water bills. I called 4 companies and received 3 quotes. 1 quote was significantly higher than the other 2 so I had it narrowed down to Heil and one other company. Heil was $25 higher than the lowest bid which is not significant when your talking about a $3k+ job. I went with Heil based on my conversation with their salesman. I had asked about 2 other plumbing items that I was considering having done while they were at my home. He gave me a rough estimate on changing the knob in my shower and also I needed a special gasket for the toilet in my basement. Its an unfinished floor and I wanted to turn it 90 degrees. He said they could quote the shower knob change and could get the type of gasket I needed for the downstairs toilet. Based on this I emailed the salesman and said I would like to do the job. I never heard from the salesman again and when the crew came out they had no idea I wanted any other work done or that the salesman said he could get the gasket I needed for my toilet. This is the reason this is only a 4 start review. The company and work is otherwise 5 star quality in my view, its all to common today once a sale is done they disappear and anything else you've discussed or requested is forgotten. As for the crew that came to my home to replace the underground line they were fantastic! They put down tarps, wore covers on their boots and explained everything they needed to do. They had to dig one pit in my yard and repaired it nicely. They said if it settled or didn't grow grass in the spring to simply call them back and they would take care of it. I really was pleased with the quality and cleanliness of the work this crew did inside and outside of my home. Would I use this company again? Absolutely. The office called me promptly to schedule the job, they called when they were on their way, the communication in general from this company was great. This was a big job and these guys made it look easy, they were on-site first thing Monday morning and completed the job inside and out by lunch. read more

An old flexible connector on the water supply of our upstairs bathroom sink literally exploded in the middle of the night, water gushed out at full speed, flooded the bathroom in minutes, poured through the ceiling in the kitchen downstairs, and it too was totally flooded. Got the water shut off at the main valve, began cleanup with a wet vac, and called Heil's emergency line at 4:00 am. Their representative Gary answered right away, talked through the options, and told me to call back after 7:00 am since the situation was stable. I did that, got an appointment immediately, and Gary himself was here one hour later. He fixed the problem in short order, put on several new replacement parts, and gave us lots of insight and advice on how to detect and prevent future problems. Then, since he was already here, we asked Gary if he could possibly give us some options for replacing our old leaky kitchen faucet downstairs. He did that and it just so happened he had exactly what we wanted on his truck. He went the extra mile and installed the whole new faucet assembly, and everything is absolutely perfect. Gary is by far the most impressive plumber I've ever encountered. His knowledge, skills, attitude, patience and attention to detail all first rate. I had a difficult installation of a new main valve in my furnace closet which is a tight space. Ike arrived with mask and clean booties. He listened to what I wanted to do, why I wanted to do it, and my suggestions on how it might be done. He took all that into consideration and gave his thoughts as well. We came to a conclusion and he figured up a price with and without a new pressure valve (which was about 15 yrs old). We authorized the job and he went straight to work but not before laying down a nice thick quilted pad around the work space. He did the job in under 1 1/2 hrs. I figured it would take around 2 with the challenging space restrictions. All I can say is the new setup is museum quality work. I'm considering putting a glass door on my furnace room just so I can display it. Oh yeah, it works too. Now I'm pretty good at sweating pipes and have even installed a new line to the outside of the house for a new hose bib, so when someone does something I'm easily disappointed. In this case I can honestly say I could not have done a better job than this and in fact it well exceeded what I am capable of doing. The cost may not be dirt cheap, but it is more than reasonable given the quality, workmanship; and, that is true value. From the very first meeting with Ed Heil to the last moment your crew left, my experience was nothing short of fantastic. Not only did Ed review all of the issues that would be encountered but he didn't leave until he had given me a price for the requested work. In comparison, I waited 10 days and had to call four times to get another plumber to send me a quote for the work I needed to have completed. The crew, headed by Joseph Heil, was efficient, hard working and professional in all respects. Each crew member knew their task and proceeded to work diligently throughout the all day job. Joe's professional and approachable manner made it easy for the crew, and myself, to ask questions when appropriate and get well thought out answers. The entire crew was mindful of our home and took great care to avoid any excess dirt or damage. In fact, they even asked for the outside water spigot to be turned on (it was January) so they could hose down the driveway of the mud from the digging that was done. Chris and Will from Heil Plumbing did an outstanding job. Professional from the moment they walked in the door - and came RIGHT ON TIME - early even. Offered solid, honest advice and performed impeccable service with regard to installing my Lowboy 40G water heater. Chis and Will came prepared to take my old ruptured unit, bringing a mini-shop vac to clean up any extraneous water. Despite it being a tight space, they had no problem putting in the water tray (Fail safe if your water heater leaks water - raises it by est. 3 inches) and maneuvering the unit into place. They had to re-route some copper piping/fittings to make it all work, but the price never increased from the quoted proposal. Their workmanship and attention detail can be readily seen just looking at that short stubby bundle of joy they installed. Great job guys! Kept the workspace clean and even dried off my floor with some trailing water from the old beast. - Office staff were great too - very helpful. Experiencing a water heater failure on a Sunday is hardly a painful experience. However, as they have in the past, Heil plumbing was there when we needed them. Tommy came out Sunday and temporarily repiped our system to use our second water heater while taking the first one out of service (stopping the leaking water, etc). I called first thing Monday morning and 24 hours later Daniel (and an associate) came out and not only installed a new gas water heater but repiped much of the system that required many failover valves, a thermosiphon loop, replacing many corroded parts that we won't have to worry about in the future. As usual, the service people are prompt, courteous and take the time to explain what they were going to do, what they did afterward and how to operate and care for things in the future. While our service was not inexpensive, I believe the price was more than fair for the work done and I always have confidence in their work after they leave. Having had "bad plumber" experiences with other individuals and companies in the past, it's quite reassuring to have Heil just a phone call away when needed. read more

All 4 bathrooms in my house in Rockville were clogged and poops came out from bath tubs. The problem started with one bathroom early in the day. It went downward spiral from there. By the end of the day, all 4 toilets and the kitchen sink were not working. It was terrible. I knew I had a water main issue and I knew my problem should be looked at and fixed in the morning. But, I started calling plumbing companies, and hoping to line up someone first thing next morning. Heil plumbing took care of a long standing water supply line issue in my home. They did their best to keep the invasive part minimal, recommended a good ceiling patching company, and overall I felt they did a solid job. Take note, Heil charges fees 'by the job' as opposed to by the hour. The benefit here is that you know the cost up front (parts and labor included). The downside is that, you might pay more than an hourly plumber. But if the hourly plumber takes a long time for some reason, you might pay more, were as Heil plumbing will stay the same cost. I like the up front cost model, because while it might seem to cost a little more than someone else, you know the job will get done at the quoted cost. Technician was professional, kept their shoes covered while in the house, and worked quickly but thoroughly. Ensured there were no leaks present after work after things had cured, so we could be confident to proceed with our ceiling repair. Good work, would recommend. read more

It got better from there as the technician was polite, courteous, and knowledgeable. He successfully diagnosed and fixed my leak. Along the way, he explained what he was doing, why, and what to do to avoid problems in the future. He went beyond fixing the immediate problem to addressing other smaller items that could contribute to the problem. He exceeded my expectations when he left the bathroom cleaner than he found it. While the initial call was to find and repair a leak, I also asked the technician to install a garbage disposal. It was a project I was putting off for too long. A friend recommended Heil Plumbing and they lived up to my expectations. I need quite a few things done and we're 2/3's of the way through the list. My house was built in 1962, so repairs can be tricky. Yesterday Gary and Dakota replaced a utility tub and the copper plumbing in several spots in the basement. He also replaced several leaking turn-off valves and the water lines to my washing machine. The old utility tub was a concrete one, so it had to be busted up--the guys were great about cleaning things up! Both men were friendly and very polite--I'm older so that matters! Two days ago, Gary unclogged a drain under my basement floor, and now my kitchen sink drains well. Also, he tightened the handle and chain on a commode. Heil was great. Had no clue what to do when i needed to replace a water heater. Called them and initially was told they would come out and do estimate, but after emailing pictures of the unit to them, they called me back and said "dont waste you time with an estimate, we can tell you need a new one." Saved me from having extra appointments and bills from multiple visits. Also, they noticed we had a old valve that did not turn easily so they replaced that for just a couple bucks. The unit is commercial grade and works perfect. Also, the install was great, they were quick and polite and answered all my questions. Professional and efficient. Heil Plumbing came highly recommended when we needed an outside water pipe fixed quickly. They did not disappoint. Charlie was very professional and knowledgeable when he arrived to give us an estimate. I could tell he was confident in himself and his team as he explained the options available to us. That really helped put us at ease. We had two other plumbers provide estimates and we did not get the same sense from either of them. Heil's estimate was also about 20% less than the other two companies, both of which suggested digging up part of our driveway to do the repairs. We called Heil plumbing to replaced a 75 gal water heater for us. We initially were thinking about going with a tankless heater when Billy came out for the estimate. As he explained the additional work (up sizing gas pipe ) and time frame (getting Washington Gas to upsize the meter) that would be required we went with a conventional tank instead. We found Billy's advice helpful in making the decision and were happily surprised that he wasn't there to up sell us to the tankless unit. For the installation Jon and Gary arrived on time, were courteous and maintained a neat job site. Even though they had to provide some additional work due to the exiting pvc pipes cracking when tying in they did so without complaint or change. David Lewis from Heil Plumbing replaced our owner furnished toilet this morning. He did an amazing job. He called to ask if he could arrive a few minutes early(Yeah!) and promptly went to work. I couldn't believe how neat he was during the whole process. The toilet works great and there was not one piece of debris or drop of water left behind. He even took the rugs I had removed from the bathroom and replaced them without my having to ask. GREAT SERVICE. My husband and I researched several plumbers through Yelp and other sites.
