Really happy we got the chance to try out Hector's in person (previously placed a to go order). First things first, they have limited indoor and outdoor seating, so there can be a bit of a wait especially if you check this out at busy meal times on the weekend. We actually placed our order to go, but when we returned to pick it up 20 minutes later, a couple tables opened up, so we were able to dine in. My wife and I went with the following: CARNE ASADA thinly sliced skirt steak with sauté vegetables topped with chimichurri sauce 13.99 (5 out of 5) COCONUT WRAP filled large tortilla with pork, mofongo fresh mango and coconut sauce 13.99 (5 out of 5) Service was phenomenal and prices are very reasonable, especially considering the portion sizes. Hector's was just great. There literally was something there for all of us. We were traveling with my in-laws who are not very adventurous dietary wise. Even they enjoyed their meals. Where do I even start?!?! My husband and I drove over an hour to try Hectors Kitchen for the first time. It's Veterans Day and we are both Veterans. This place did NOT disappoint! We started with chips and salsa and the empanada. I then saw they had jalapeño cheesesticks and got back up to order those. The salsa was chunky and I hate chunky salsa. It looked like it would be bland. Boy was I wrong! I absolutely LOVED it! Full of flavor! The beef empanada came with sauce (as did our other dishes), it was not needed! The empanadas were AH-MAZ-ING! SO glad I got back up to order the jalapeño cheesesticks! They were the best cheesesticks EVER! For our main dishes, I ordered the Carne asada and hubby got the Cuban sandwich. He said the Cuban was "okay", but to be fair, he doesn't care for that kind of food. My Carne Asada was the best ever! NOTHING about that dish was lacking flavor!!! NOTHING! The plantains were sweet and savory but not too sweet. The fried plantains had cilantro and other seasonings. My rice was so full of flavor and the black beans as well! The meat was tender and I just mixed everything together and ate it because I couldn't decide what to eat first lol There was so much food that I made 3 meals out of it! The girls at the front were SO friendly! The bathroom was very clean and so cute! They have outside dining, inside dining and a take-out window. The whole place was clean. Ropa Vieja was very tender served over yellow rice with sides of black beans, yucca fries and plantains. We also had the Mofongo with a fried egg black beans and tostones. Hector is the BEST. THIS JOINT WAS PHENOMENAL. He's from Colombia, and certainly has his stylistic flare for all-time favorites, like the Mofongo! For his clients, he's a little easy on the spicy-ness, but that's nothing a request can't fix! Everything was so rich, and flavorful, well-balanced, and ABSOLUTELY all-natural/fresh! Gadsden was the halfway point between our house and our vacation destination. We asked Yelp for lunch recommendations and, as always, Yelp came through! Quaint little hole in the wall with excellent Latino menu. Great, friendly atmosphere with friendly, attentive staff. Wifey had a Cuban Sandwich with tortilla chips and some excellent queso. I had a marinated pork chop with grilled pineapple, yellow rice, black beans with a fried egg on top. All was delish. We REALLY enjoyed our lunch.
