A cozy little eatery on a quaint town street made for the perfect late lunch early dinner for the two of us while road tripping on a Sunday afternoon. The place was clean the staff friendly and it was far more than a simple "sub shop" a technicality that would have easily had me overlook this gem had other yelpers swayed me to check it out The choices were plentiful and the personalization of those items were limitless. Kiosk or person to person ordering but the full menu lives on the kiosks so if you're a newbie take the time to peruse all your options. The prices are reasonable and we both ate way more than we should have on the cheap. Would I call the food spectacular or extraordinary- no, but it was tasty, served hot and more than satisfying. Were in town shopping, and asked a shop owner where to eat; he highly recommended Hecky's, and we had a wonderful lunch. Huge portions and tasty food! We usually go here a few times a year. I get the fresh cut fries every time. My go to sandwich is the Beef Cheesesteak Hoagie( California Style) the portion of meat on the sandwich is very generous. My husband tried homemade soup this time as was not disappointed. Awful service tried to get just a "hamburger" on the screen in the hamburger section. Instead got served a hamburger sub which should be in the "hot sub" section which where that item should be located in the system. Tried to get them to remake it I didn't care about the money to begin with all I wanted was a hamburger ....well that was pretty much impossible they refused every way to make a simple burger instead. I have liked your posts. I have told friends how good your food is (and it is really good). I have spent $226.86 at your business so far this year alone. I live so close to you, it's so convenient. So many good things until tonight. Look... I get that you're tired, you're understaffed, probably overworked. I can sympathize with all of those things. But you cannot get upset with customers for bringing you business an hour before closing time just because you are already cleaning up for the day. But, if you choose to still complain about a customer, maybe don't do it so loud that they can hear you. Tonight wasn't the only time. I have heard you say things about other customers in the past as well. I would have wiped off the table and put the chairs back on top of it myself when I was finished. Tonight we went to heckys and this is the third time they forgot something on our order. Their resolve can you stop back and get it.... No, you idiots shouldn't have forgot it in the first place, you paying my time and gas to stop back..no of course you won't.They also charge to put tomato's from a sandwich on the side like it was extra toppings. With Kramer's, pizza como, Louee's and so many other good sandwich places that get it right, we won't be using heckys again since they are also over priced on top of it. read more

It's no secret how much I love Hecky's. I grew up coming here, the place has been a Hamburg institution as long as I can remember. 100% the best hoagies in town, at least to me anyway. Be careful with what size you're ordering, because the large is HUGE. My go-to is the Hecky's Special, but they also have great sides and my picky girlfriend loves their cheesesteaks. Cool place to sit down and grab a lunch, owner plays great music (must be a Radiohead fan), and they've kept up with the times by offering an online order option as well as touchpoint order screens inside. I stopped in Hecky's and ordered a cheeseburger and fries to go. When I took out my burger it was dry, over cooked, and only had cheese on it. It was tasteless and upsetting that I spent $9 on it. We found the place from the iExit app as were were on 78. It's only half mile from exit. We had hot and cold subs, both were very fresh and delicious. The staff were friendly and answered any questions. We did not have any soups but it looks like they have daily homemade soup specials. read more

I had a chicken cheese steak mini and small curly fries. The mini is a decent size but I was hungry. So the next size up might have been better. I loved the sandwich! I added "Cali style" - lettuce, tomato, onion, peppers - except without the peppers. This was an extra cost. The tomato on top of the sandwich was weird and not easy to eat. Plus the tomato was a bit mushy texture. Curly fries were good and as expected. The small was enough. Hubby had the chicken parm and it had mozzarella sticks in it. He was happy but he has had better. He had the large curly fries which was a whole lot! Loved the atmosphere even though it was a tad cold inside. Customer service was meh. Not rude but not really that pleasant. I really liked their dishes. They look heavy but they are actually plastic. read more

I lived in Hamburg for 6 years now. I ate here enough for the woman inside to refer to me as "the soup guy" every time I walked in the door because I ordered the soup a lot. It was the best soup in town. The price was a little high for small sandwich shop, but I'm willing to pay good money for good food and the quality matched the price. About 2 maybe three months ago it all changed. Seen signs for new management, and new hours and half the menu board was blacked out.... then two weeks after that another hours change, then another hours change. Now they are open 10am-3pm. Whoever the new owners/managers are, have drastically decreased the quality of food and service. The quality of the food here has plummeted to a very poor standard. I bought a turkey club that had (and this is no exagerration) one slice of turkey on it. I bought a crab bisque soup that was filled with long strands of surimi. My third and last visit I bought lobster bisque. Was my all time favorite soup they made there. My disappointment was paramount. It seemed like nothing more than cream of potato out of a cambells can with some old bay seasoning and a drop of food coloring to make it pink. I took two bites and threw three soups away. I'll never go back there again. This used to be a main staple of the community, a place I could take visitors to, or recomment visitors go to. Quite frankly I'm disgusted because I watched my favorite place to eat in town turn into a place I would not go to if invited, basically overnight. Bottom line, if you came through hamburg before and remember this place having good food, or someone you know once told you they had good food and your thinking of stopping in, don't. The food is terrible and quite frankly they close at 3pm now anyway so chances are you'll walk up to an empty building. Such a shame. read more

I and three friends had lunch here today and it was really good. Three of us had different kinds of cheese-steaks, and the fourth had a turkey hoagie. We split an order of fries. All of it was tasty and quick, and we'd all go again. Hecky's also honored the Yelp free drink and soda on our order, which I much appreciated. A comment on other reviews. The reviews are pretty old, and the most recent review (12 months ago) seems to mostly complain about the soup. I can't comment on the soup, but if you're going to a place called "Hecky's Sub Shop" maybe you should order a sub. They're good. read more

I haven passed this wonderful sandwich shop for over 20 years and finally drove here as they had a special offer for Yelpers. Buy a small 11 inch sandwich...get a free small drink and fries. The fries were very tasty and needed no ketchup. The soda here is Pepsi products. My turkey and provolone sandwich was presented on a huge soft roll, which held up well. The turkey and cheese blended well and the fresh lettuce , tomatoes and mayo gave my sandwich the "finishing touch". I had to take half if it home as I was stuffed...and this will be a routine stop for me when I am hungry in Hamburg. read more

Hecky's special was really good (their Italian). Not a complaint or praise, just an observation. The place has rolls that are super soft and chewey. Not crusty at all. I really liked them. This is not a bad thing. Just as people are Sitting here looking and thinking about getting a sub, know it is more like really soft, really good bread inside and out, not crusty on the outside, soft on the inside. Soup, salad, 2 sandwiches and a soda about $24. The French Onion Soup was croutons and onions little broth and unmelted shredded mozzarella on top; tasty for a sub shop. The decor was modern and pleasant. Their version on ranch dressing is dill and sour cream with maybe a little mayo, not ranch. The hamburger sub was reported as delicious, my deluxe club sandwich was inedible as a sandwich. Unless like a serpent, you can unlock your jaw and extend it about 3 inches, it's impossible to eat the sandwich. All and all not a bad spot, but I'd prefer a sandwich you don't have to eat with a knife and fork. read more

First time here. Found about this establishment when using yelp to find local eateries to patronize on our planned trip to cabelas. This place is a needle in a haystack. If you didn't know it was there you'd probably never look for it. This isn't your normal sub shop. VERY clean, nice decor, and friendly service. Loved the fans and track lighting throughout the place. I had the half cheesesteak. Comes in mini, half and full if I remember correctly. The half was more than enough for 1 person.
