Went on a Wednesday around 6:00 for some dinner. There were only a couple people at the bar. We were waited on right away and brought our drinks. Food was made right away and brought out and hot and fresh. Condiments were brought to the table. The homemade ranch is great. Prices are really good for the amount of food you get. Burgers are amazing. Fried mushrooms and onion rings were so good. Fries were nothing special. The place hasn't been updated in decades but thats okay, thats what makes it special. Such a damn good burger EVERYTIME! Sorry no pics to share this time, lol. We stopped in (again) on Saturday Jan 20th and brought my bff. She ordered the jalepeno burger with fries. She ate the whole burger. She loved it. I ordered (my usual) bacon cheeseburger. It has velveeta (squeeze cheese) and bacon bits. (Their burgers have that cheese unless another is requested). I of course added lots of pickles and onions from the table side condiment container). I added some mozzarella sticks to share also. Our other friend ordered the deep fried mushrooms to share. They were sliced portablella mushrooms....delicious with cocktail sauce. The owner is a very personable and friendly man that always checks to see how your food is. Heck's is definitely a classic dive bar. Food and drinks are cheap and about what you expect from a bar in the literal middle of nowhere. It's fine if you're passing through but not something I'd go out of my way to eat. Service was fine. read more

This place is in the tip of Michigan's Thumb near Pinnebog, between Caseville and Port Austin (aka: the middle of nowhere). The bar opened in 1953. The Heckleburger started in 1966. This place has been owned by the Heck family since they opened. Bob 2 (aka: Robert Heck II) currently runs it. WOW their burgers are good. I loved the reviews of this place and I really love a great dive bar. We did like the bar itself. The service was ok - nothing real outstanding. We ordered a burger and a perch dinner. We waited on our food for almost TWO HOURS. Yes. Two. Hours. We ended up requesting our food to go because we had to get back to where we were staying for the night. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that this was hopefully a one-off type of situation, but we did enjoy a few drinks while we waited! Ha! If you are from here it is probably 4 stars, if you are not probably 3 stars. Burger was good. Hand made patty. Double burger is 1/2 lb. Condiment tray is nice, diced onion, pickle chips and relish. It just wasn't super great. I read good things about the onion rings. Thought they would be home made but they are not. Not bad but pretty standard smaller onion rings. This place is so gross. In the summer the mosquitoes and flies are everyone the dump. The grill must never be cleaned. Once was enough.

The Heckleburger was really tasty. The thing with the burger is the taste of the burger itself. Juicy delicious beef. The bun complimented the burger really well as it didn't overwhelm the taste of the burger itself. Accompanied by a great condiment tray of sweet onions, pickles and relish. But wait... there more! Try the onion rings! Bite into them and it's a crispy crunch and the onion doesn't slide out. How do they do it?? Think it has something to do with a well seasoned griddle and fryer. Really interesting place! The menus jest at the fact that it's more than a little off the beaten path which is true but an easy place to stop at if you are on your way north to the beach. The inside is straight 1960s and is usually surprisingly steady with patrons. Pick from the charactered seating options and start pouring over the 8x11 menu print out. If you are here on Friday, get fish. If you are here another day, get a burger. My fav is the olive burger with deep fried cauliflower. The owner has been there every time I have and he has never led us down the wrong path when ordering beer, in fact he is more knowledgeable about it then some tour guides at actual breweries. When the food comes out you get a pretty cool selection of condiments with my fav being the honey mustard. read more

We use to eat there in the late 90's and it was so good! Then when the son took over it was terrible. I recently heard that they had changed so we tried it again. We both ordered their olive burger which was pretty good My only real complaint is that the bottom bun was so soggy that it was finally impossible to hold the burger to finish it. Stopped at Heck's nearly by accident. We were on our way to Port Austin, MI. 1st bar we drove by after leaving I-69 and M-24. Small place but well stocked beer coolers from domestic to micro brews. Fish fry on Friday looked delicious and the staff said burgers their speciality. Will check both of these out next trip up. Finally stopped in this place after driving by for 40 years!!! They have a huge craft beer selection!! Not much in the wine category, but the cocktails are fine... This place was a pleasant surprise. We had just come from Kinde after enjoying a meal at the Pasta House and were rolling by Hecks in the tiny little crossroads of Pinnebog and Kinde. The place was packed with summer locals who where trying to avoid the crowds in Caseville and Port Austin. The beer selection was good with several craft beers on the list. So, after about five years of driving by this place we decided to finally stop in today and check it out. I have to say I'm quite surprised!
