I came to Michigan unexpectedly due to a family emergency. I arrived late at the hotel, past…read more9:30pm, and had hoped to just get to my room and go to sleep. The first room I was given had hairs everywhere on the sheets, dirt smudges on the covers, and disgusting skin flakes everywhere. The second room I was moved to had hairs everywhere and little spiders in the sheets (see attached picture for one of the spiders I saw). I went down to the front desk and asked if house cleaning could change the sheets, or if I could be moved to another clean room. The front desk lady told me they had no house cleaning on staff at that time, and that she did not want to go up to the rooms and make sure the next one I got was clean. She then recommended I go somewhere else to spend the night. Management has refused to provide a refund, even though I did not spend the night and was essentially told to go somewhere else by their own staff. I will be disputing the charge but wanted to warn people of the service they may receive while they are here. I had an absolutely awful experience, am still trying to get my money back, and will never visit this location again.

I was told it's fine to cancel. Don't worry about it. Cancel my reservation at 12 o'clock. Now on January 29 I receive a charge on my credit card for my room stay and late cancellation. Called the hotel and the representative I spoke to was very nice. She said that she was given orders to tell everyone that's company policy and no cancellations are allowed before 24 hours.

It is my very safe place where everything is delicious and pleasant and evenings on the little porches with a glass of bourbon are the best for evening meditations. However, when recently I called to make a reservation, Joann kept telling me over and over again that every room was the same. When I tried to reply that I didn't feel that way as the decor, the view, the sound, being handicappable, etc. made each cottage unique. She consistently interrupted me to tell me all the rooms were the same even though I mentioned I had been there several times and have seen that they are not, delightful in their own way but she was not to be dissuaded. She couldn't tell me what the two rooms available even looked like. It's a shame that such a beautiful place has this kind of representation of its rooms and grounds when calling to book a room for a period of time. If I wanted a room that looked the same as all the others I could have called a chain hotel company at a considerably lower price point. Please don't sell this place short. The food is fabulous (I believe I have tried everything on the menu), the martinis are fabulous, the service was friendly, professional and yes, fabulous. Despite the attitude, I look forward to my next visit. I'm giving this a five star based on all my prior experiences NOT on the latest conversation when I booked my most recent stay. That was less than 1.

I just went there for our annual Sorority Christmas Dinner Party. The Holiday decor was very…read moreBeautiful. The Room that they put us 8 in again was sweet.., but they didn't light the Fireplace this Year & the Dinner table was set with a stark white Linen tablecloth - with nothing Festive on our table ... just flatware & napkin & water glasses. We all entertain a lot & noticed they didn't bother to make our table look inviting or Festive. The Staff is polite & friendly. However sadly... for the last 4 years I've not been served a decently cooked meal there. I tried their Duck this time hoping it would be good. It was not good. They served it with about 3 bites of some kinda veggie & a wee few bites of potato & what they called a serving of their Duck - which comprised of 2 tiny pieces. One inedible piece was the "dried up end" of what looked like part of the wing & the other piece was a very small 4x2 inch slice of Duck - which when cut was 3 small bites. Really? It was also the worst Dinner ever. I've tried a couple other items in their Menu & the 1 piece of my Chicken Breast Dinner was so dry I couldn't cut it - so I ate the sparsely served potatoes & dinner roll & side salad. Another time I ordered a medium cooked Prime Rib & was served a medium "bloody" rare - she took it back to the kitchen & they microwaved it. After everyone else was done eating - it was then served to me barely warm & it was an unappetizing grey colored - rubber piece of meat that also was so tough even the Waitress couldn't cut it. So I sent it back. Again... I had no Dinner - just a cup of French Onion soup & dinner roll & side salad... they still charged me for the Dinner even though I was not served any Prime Rib- weird. They are still being cheap & not placing a bread basket on the table - there's usually at least 8 of us & other years we've had 10 or 12 attend our Holiday Dinner. A Waitstaff person walks around the table & places 1 small dinner roll on each of our plates. We've all ordered Cocktails & always have had a long wait for our Dinners to be served - so a nicely filled Bread Basket or tray of complimentary relishes - would be nice while we enjoy our drinks & visit. It wouldn't be that expensive to offer considering the meals are over-priced. The Desserts were ordered by all of us & were tasty but very tiny servings for the price. The bathrooms were clean this year so that was nice. I really do wish the food was better cooked & had more substance because it looks like we're going to be there next Year... as traditionally the majority of the Sorority Chapter chooses to go there for the ambiance - which is lovely. The pretty Bar area downstairs is cozy but small & I heard the Bar food in there is good. The English Inn is sadly still NOT handicapped accessible & the food is usually not hot as they have to walk down a flight & a half of stairs to get to the room we're dining in downstairs . An Elevator would be a perfect addition & such a nice Amenity for the Guests to have to use while staying & dining at the English Inn.

My husband and I recently stayed the night here after attending a wedding near by. The check in…read morearea is updated, bright, and clean. The rooms are also updated and clean. We stayed in the very first room, closest to the road. Everything was fine until the middle of the night when I heard someone talking and it sounded like they were actually in our room. It was the room next door. We could hear them talking, and could hear every word they were saying. Luckily we had a noise maker to turn on so we could drown out the noise. In the morning, it was also very loud and we could hear all the cars driving by on the main road. The bed was large and spacious, but when we woke up, we were pretty sore from sleeping on it all night. Its not a typical hotel, as it doesn't have a pool, breakfast, etc. but it was very clean, which is hard to find in a hotel sometimes so I will give them that.

This was cleaner than a lot of the hotels I've been in. The woman at the reception desk was very friendly and helpful. We didn't check in until about 7pm and she let us know right away that if we needed anything, the office was closing at 9pm (which was helpful for the second night). Our room was across the parking lot from the reception area and on the first floor. The motel was booked, as we stayed during a holiday weekend and there was a large family staying there for a wedding. Everyone was friendly and respectful. It was quiet at night, so no problems with noise. The room was impeccably clean and well-stocked. The pillows were quite comfy, which is saying something as I've been unable to find a pillow that both supports and is comfortable since my spinal fusion. The bathroom was very spacious and we had room to have one of us in the shower, another using the facilities, and another using the sink. Our only complaint was that the motel placed a $100 hold on the card for incidentals on top of the room charges, which caused issues with our credit union. Other than that, highly recommended!

The only good parts were the comfortable beds, soft linens and the craft area was big enough for our group to have plenty of room. The house is beautiful if you don't look too closely. However ... They need to hire a cleaning company. Dust, cobwebs, dead ladybugs everywhere. Hair in the shower, dirty dishes in the sink, bathroom garbage almost full (when we checked in). Our group has been to dozens of bed and breakfasts and have never had to go through a budget line to eat. That's the beauty of going to a bed and breakfast - being served your food. For dinner she had 2 liters of warm pop on the counter (to serve yourself). We even had to ask for ice. The same 2 liters were there at lunch the next day. The food was mediocre at best. We ordered dinner from the nearby golf course the next day (which was frustrating because we had paid for our meals for the weekend). We'll be taking our business elsewhere!

In my 30+ years of travel, I have never had this happen to me. Normally, it's not a problem, or if the room is not ready, the front desk offers to contact me when it is. I kindly declined and decided to wait until I was done with my meeting at 5pm. Immediately after I checked in, I noticed a smell in the hallway, which I thought was from cigarettes. The smell continued into my room, which had me concerned. I did not say anything and went to dinner. Eventually, I returned and turned out the lights at 10:30 pm. At 1:30 am, I woke up to a much intensified smell that I could not get past. It was awful, and was now keeping me awake. I called the front desk to see if smoking was allowed, and she said it was not. I had no choice other than to ask for a different room in a different wing. The person on the phone was annoyed and told me I had to pack my bags, exit the room, and go to the front desk, at which time a new room could be issued. There was no apology, no offer for help to move my bags, and certainly, no sense of understanding of how disruptive this was. A new key was issued, and I was now on the second floor, further away from where I had come from. I had three bags with me, and there was no offer for assistance or apology. I made it to the second-floor room, and the key did not work. I returned to the front desk with all three bags. No apology, no concern for all the walking around with three bags, just a reprogram of the key. She said it should work. I don't understand how/why a customer satisfaction issue like this did not prompt any concern on her part. I eventually got into my room and tried to wind down from everything that had just taken place. The room did not have the same smell, but I could still smell whatever it was on my clothes. Eventually, I fell asleep but woke up again at 4:30 with the same smell, just as bad as before. I was furious. This was a complete waste of a night of sleep. I dealt with it until 6:00am, where I then packed my bags and left in frustration. A new representative was at the front desk and asked if I was checking out. I said yes, gave her the keycard, and politely asked if they had ever had complaints of a smell in the rooms. She would not look up and kept her head down. She said not that she was aware of. I asked that she let management know of my experience, which she said she would. She did not offer any kind of apology on behalf of the hotel. I will be back in the area for future meetings; however, I will not return to this hotel. There are so many hotel options in this area, and I'm shocked that they can get away with this.
