Hightide Store DTLA - If you love Japan and crafts/knick-knacks you'll love this place. Makes me miss Japan so much.

This place is perfect to visit on Sundays after Smorgasbord. I love visiting this shop for their aesthetics and different art mediums. I have bought quite a few items from here just for its uniqueness and creative uses such as a calligraphy pen, their mini metal containers, pencil holders, paper clips, patches, and more. They have a wide selection of high end pens and pencils. Some items are cheaper than most other stores and vice versa. The workers here also keep their items well stocked, especially during peak hours. I love this store and appreciate its beauty! Perfect little shop to find a gift for your artsy friends.

Their selection of products is great for stationary enthusiasts. I purchased some pens from Penco, which is a flagship brand of High Tide. The store is located at the Row DTLA, which is a recently renovated shopping area. I'm generally not a big fan of downtown, but this place was really nice. It felt safe and there was plenty of parking. Overall I would definitely recommend Hightide for stationary shopping. Pros: -Great section of unique products. -The store has a fun vibe -Plenty of parking. 2 hours free. -Located in a nice shopping area. Cons -some of their products like the pen cases are a bit too expensive in my opinion. -it is a small space so it can get crowded during peak shopping hours.

What a find. Not…read morethat I need any more stationery in my life, but any time I am traveling, I ALWAYS seek it out. Shorthand did not let me down at all. The store was packed full of colorful items and had me ready to spend all of my money. What I really enjoyed is how everything is essentially the same or similar- the pen and notebook selection specifically, but it's all broken out by color. It was visually beautiful. Easy testing locations to try out all of the pens. I could have spend hours here, truly. But alas, I knew my wallet didn't need the stress so I picked up a few pens and notebooks. The associate was very friendly and I was more than happy to find this place. I will be adding this to my, "when in LA" list.

You will be pleasantly surprised by all that you can learn in such a short time. If you're passionate about ink, calligraphy, anything that has to do with writing, specialized, stationary, cards made by local artists may be even by one of the employees for a variety of occasions. This is the place to come. My description is only a brief list of the Services and products that they offer. Fernanda it's not only knowledgeable, but definitely the pen expert in the building. She kindly and patiently explained to me the differences between length, width, color and materials when it comes to penmanship. I had the pleasure of also utilizing their gift wrapping services, which is also something I highly recommend. They have some wonderful choices in the store, but you can also bring your own, which I definitely did. I love how all the prices are clearly labeled for every item even the smallest of attachments. This let someone immediately know the value of an item and what is required to obtain the goals for a project that someone is pursuing.

It's definitely one of the bigger ones and it's an interesting mix of items here since the back and side areas also have miscellaneous home goods and kitchen goods too. I think, unfortunately, this shop is horribly targeted by gargantuan amount of theft so they got staff posted everywhere and warning signs as well, so it is what it is. There's a lot of plushies here including those soft mochi mochi sitting animal plushies and anime goods too, including some $5 affordable unique, official Poke'mon magnets. I think, if anything, Tokyo Japanese Lifestyle has the higher ratio of legit items than bootlegs than any of the other similar competitors out there aside from maybe like Neko Stop. I do recall wanting a lizard plush keychain here and asking staff if they had a bearded dragon one. Staff had no idea what I was talking about but they were nice enough to take out the entire shipment from storage, let me point out the one I wanted and I was able to get one. I have been searching for that size bearded dragon plushie keychain for awhile. It's from the Tsuburana Hitomi (round eyed) animals zoo collection, reptiles line! So that's a W in my book at least.

Whoever does the buying deserves a huge shout-out; every item is cute, classy, or interesting (or a combination thereof). Many of the greeting cards may have literary references, there are scarves and jewelry and knick-knacks and toys for the kids. I tend to give away a lot of journals; there's usually a lovely selection of super expensive diaries, as well as discounted notebooks to jot down your thoughts or start that food diary. I believe that the profits support the library; your shopping may not be a charitable donation but your purchase supports a good cause. Retail therapy and a win-win for the public good. I loved seeing their pocket-sized collection from their genre-specific books to celebrity finds. I spotted a Chappel Roan book among other favorites. Additionally, they had a selection of Heated Rivalry novels and other fan-favorites. I definitely see myself coming here more often, too bad my booklist is currently full. My Mom and I got a few items (a small version of Macbeth, socks, mug, etc.). Staff were pretty polite but a little awkward, I think they're on high-alert for shoplifters. The store was neat and tidy. Lighting was dim and the store wasn't packed. As this is a gift shop in LA, library-specific merch is slightly pricy. However, the quality of the goods are great. If you're entering through the backside of the library go straight down the entrance hallway a bit and turn to your right. The Library Store is hard to miss!
