Lets talk about this shop--cuz wow. First off the staff, kind, efficient and helpful (kind that makes you feel welcomed and not rushed). Mellow, thoughtful vibes. The items? Literally things I didn't need...until I saw them. Notebooks, pens, rulers, keychains, clipboards, planners, stationery, and every kind of writing tool that was not on the list, yet clearly destined to come home with me. CONFESSION: I'm that friend who gets emotionally attached to pens . I'll walk into a stationery store "to browse" and leave with two FULL bags of pens, paper, and things I didn't know I needed five minutes ago. I own multiples of the same items (pens, pencils, notebooks, and paper accessories) and feel zero shame. Seriously they're kinda like tools for clarity! The shop isn't huge, but I could easily spend three hours there. They even make custom products, which feels sorta dangerous for someone like me. I don't know what else to say except: just go. LOVE this store! Great variety of all things stationery, they have planners, pens, storage items, stickers, and even miscellaneous home items such as candles and more. I've gone a few times and items are frequently updated which is great, a little on the pricier side but items are high quality so that is expected. The store is located at the Row DTLA. Parking is super easy and there's plenty of parking at the lot. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area! read more

The location is small and personally I was slightly disappointed at the fact they didn't carry much Travelers Company merchandise. I was able to purchase 2 passport size notebooks and coffee theme washi tape. Price wise for everything was a bit expensive for me. Couldn't really ask because wasn't sure who was an employee and who was a customer. I'll have to come back on a weekday when it's not so crowded. I do recommended this place for anyone who love stationary. I just wish they carry more of the stuff I actually use for my journaling and planning. read more

Hightide is an awesome store that carries a lot of Japanese stationery, home goods, art, and fashion. They are located at The Row right next to one of the parking garages that offers the first 2 hours of parking for free. It is definitely always fun to walk around and peruse the different products they have. read more

This store is so cute. I loved it and everything they have. They had Hobonichis which are typically difficult to find. Theres a parking structure that gives you a free two hours. Only downside is there is no cell signal in the store whatsoever. I will definitely be back. read more

This store was an absolute joy to explore. With the atmosphere mixed between industrial and Japan (it's a Japanese stationary store so this makes sense) it brought me back to the random outings I had wandering Ginza and spending way too many hours going up and down the 8 floors of Itoya on a summer day. Located just around the corner of the same building that makes up the parking structure Hightide at The Row is separated from the rest of the businesses yet the location with a faux like road in front feels like you walked down the street in a metropolis and found this quaint place. Even if you don't buy anything here you'll likely leave filled with good vibes. From the practical items such as stackable storage containers and pocket notebooks of all sizes to the more uniquely Japanese clothing utilizing aizome, or traditional cyan dying, it's hard not to leave Hightide without a smile. I'm a collector of wallets, with my preference for the every day use wallet being a thin, minimal styling, and I left with a tiny wallet with a pigeon in the front and in Japanese the words "This is a passbook". The price can be on the higher end and even more when you compare it to how much you can get it if you were actually in Japan, but with the owners and workers being Japanese and everything feeling authentic the price is justified. Whether you're coming here on purpose to find something uniquely Japanese and functional or you happened to stumble upon this because Japanese city pop was playing on a vinyl player Hightide is a good time and worth a visit. read more

Came in here last year while I was on my #StationeryStoreday crawl and loved the assortment of pens, markers that they had here. Also this is a store that has a plethora of offerings a great gift shop for sure. Bags, Shoes, Jewelry, letter writing/stationery sets, Clothes, writing pads, journals, and vintage dishes. Honestly, I don't know what to review. A kinda pricey, though authentic Japanese stuffs. I love cottons. Why? It's cool down your body especially Summer. Well, check the price before you buy it. Neat, for sure. Founded in Fukuoka Japan in 1994, which my dad was in Tokyo at that time. I never been to Japan and my Japanese were gone. If you like Row DTLA to grab a bite or wine, it's worth to check out this place. In due course, this place and the RAW DTLA will become Fort Collins, Colorado. This is a premiere stationary store located in The Row in DTLA where there is free garage parking for 2 hours. The map at the Row detailing this location is incorrect; you can find Hightide on the side of the parking lot near where cars enter by Alameda. This store seems to primarily sell imported stationary goods from Japan which means they have a TON of planners w/ a large selection of Hobonichi's and notebooks. They also have some unique stickers (all pictured) as well as keychains, stencils, and other planner accessories. Other stationary goods they have include ink, pens, clips, and more! read more

I could get lost in this store forever. Not a huge selection of stationary but very well curated. High quality stationary that isn't overpriced. I like the array of notebooks, planners, and pens. Always something cute or practical to see in every corner. The owners are often there with tons of knowledge about the products. They have a clothing and home goods side that is on the pricier end. More handmade goods or one of a kinds. Nice that the Row now has free parking for a few hours too. Easy location to get in and out of. read more

Been coming here for years and it's one of my favorite stationary stores in LA! It seems small, but looking through all of it takes time. They have essentials, pens, pencils, notebooks, but they also have sets of storage containers for your desk and many other things that you don't think about. Half of the store is all their paper goods/wares while the other half is apparel. Sometimes there is a pop-up out front that features food or apparel. They're very knowledgeable of their products and where they are in the store so make sure to ask questions if you need to. Some might say it's expensive- but in my opinion their notebooks, pens, ect are all worth whatever price. Parking is free if you validate at the store on the weekends. Tip- If you go on a Sunday then stop by Smorgasborg LA and eat there. Also if you live in the LA area they offer pick-up as a "shipping" option when you check out online. read more

Japanese EDC and stationary destination, love the organization and overall feel of the store. You feel like you need everything you look at. Small area, but it's packed with everything you'd want in storage and stationary. I was able to look at what I wanted and try out different sized cases I was looking at no problem. Bougie hipster vibe meet Japanese stationary walked in to this store randomly to just window shop and was not disappointed. Japanese stationary was all over for you to review and test out. i would steer clear if you are a younger poc as we were not welcomed into the store or offered any help despite witnessing several other patrons receiving kind help and welcomes. despite this we continued to shop and in return we were stared down the entire time as if we were going to steal? (in the end we spent well over 50 dollars) and laughed at blatantly by the staff as they whispered back and forth. over all a very unpleasant experience and seemed racially targeted. read more

I normally don't write reviews, but I have to this time. I walked in and instantly fell in love with the selection, especially the Japanese retro series. I picked two keychains for my kids. Somehow this shop reminded me of my old friend in Japan. I just wanted to let her know that I found something she may like and she told me she already has a T-shirt from this shop. :) She also said she loves the journals from here and physically went to Loft and Tokyu Hands in Tokyo to look for them. It's all because of Tartine that I found myself in Hightide Store DTLA. Their Ice Cream + Coffee window didn't have anything I was interested in so I was on my way back to my car. And then I noticed this intriguing business that I hadn't seen on my way by the first time. It has a curious look about it from the outside. Like you're not really sure what you might find inside and that's how it draws (pun will be more evident later) you in. There you will find an extremely well laid out selection of writing instruments, notebooks (this is where the pun should have been) and so much more. And so much of it is from Japan. I was in heaven. There are bags and backpacks, shoes and beautiful madras goods (real ones from India), ways to organize (who needs Konmari), small art works and brooms and dust pans. But this is only what I saw in a relatively quick pass on my way back to my car trying to preserve my one hour free parking (I hadn't gotten anything at Tartine so I was in severe need of a latte by this point). I will be back soon without any other cravings to attend to. One other point I would like to make is that things are well laid out, organized and inviting. The way things are displayed it's quite obvious that a great deal of thought went into every single detail. But one little tip I can give is to be sure to look up and down and all around you. There are things displayed everywhere. It's not a warehouse (in fact you almost feel like you're walking around in someone's house) and they have made excellent use of every square inch. I love places like this. What fun trying to find all the prizes:) Oh, and don't forget to look at the erasers. Nice selection and I actually found one I had been looking for. I. Love. This. Store. I think the shopkeeper, Yoichi-san, alone makes this the best stationary store experience ever. He is very helpful and sweet, but also allows you to spend as much tome as you need in any section, so you never feel weird for contemplating one paper clip over another for 25 minutes. As for the products, WOW! Way more fun designs than Muji (RIP ) but still remain true to the utilitarian and simple Japanese design philosophy. I'm talking about the Toshiyuki Kita, Naoto Fukusawa, Fumie Shibata type of aesthetic philosophy. You won't find any kawaii stickers, Sanrio toys, or anime merch here. This place is for those who value simplicity, but aren't afraid of bright colors. You can get t-shirts, pens, organizing pouches, wall art, pens, pencils, wallets, rulers, clips, folders, and of course notebooks and planners. Everything is priced fairly (which isn't something I can say about Poketo which is right around the block) and Yoichi always makes sure that you are buying the best version of a product available. He's a lovely and genuine person, which is rare to find among shopkeepers in America. The ROW is a lovely open air shopping square in general, and has a huge parking lot. I think the best establishment is Hightide though. Even the fancy restaurants pale in comparison! read more

This place is a must go. They have rare pens, note books, paper, tape. If you're an organization and storage need like I am, they have hundreds of kitsch and interesting boxes and bins to stare at. The packaging in their products is so beautiful. If I'm not mistaken, it's also AAPI owned! I wondered into this store while exploring the DTLA Arts District. Hightide is an small business that sells high quality notepads/notebooks, stationary, unique shoes, and various retro products inspired by American history. So what sets the store apart? Everything is made in Fukuoka, Japan to HIGH quality standards! I picked up some traditional "masu" Sake cups made from Japanese cypress "hinoki" wood (see picture). One cool aspect of the store, is that part of its interior was designed and built by craftsman from Japan. This gives the store a unique setting and exotic feeling that is the real-McCoy. As a kid, I used to LOVE anything made in Japan or Germany. They were simply better and of higher quality. Most if not all stationary, office supplies, or "unique gifts" are made in China and are generally of poor quality. If you're exploring DTLA, Hightide is a great store to visit, or to take a date (yup, I'd definitely take a date their), or if you're looking for an excellent and unique gift for someone special. read more

For those who love collecting any notebooks, journals, pens, and other writing utensils as a personal hobby, you are going to LOVE this place. It's a small store that sells writing products made from Japan. They sell everything from planners to notebooks, pens, fountain pens, clips, bags and more. The store is laid out well for customers to come in and see, touch, and draw on their sample notebooks if you want to try out their pens. For those worried about covid, the double doors were open to ventilate the air and there was hand sanitizer near the entrance. The owner was also wearing a mask as were all the other customers. Now, let's talk about pricing for a sec. Are the notebooks pricey? Yes, they are pricier than going to Office Depot or Staples. But for those of you who are looking for a better writing experience, the $ is worth it. I bought a range of items here, including a few notebooks and pens. When I went home to write in the notebooks, I was blown away by how buttery soft the pages were. The pen never caught or 'skipped' because the paper is so smooth. I thought I was imagining things, so I went to my Moleskin and Leuchtterm and jotted something down quickly. Nope, the notebooks from Hightide are definitely better. My favorite so far is the Penco brand. Location: Hightide is located in the Row DTLA. If you are lost, just look for the tall vertical parking structure that has ROW written on it. You can't miss it. Parking: I came here on a Saturday afternoon and parking was free for 2hrs. Validation was not needed. Will definitely be back soon! read more

Stopped by this store while exploring the area. I really liked the location and set up of the store. There's plenty of stationary to browse and try out. And I appreciated the careful selection of products. You can tell that each item in the store was wisely chosen, not just some fad or gimmicky toy.
