So be prepared to spend 15-20 minutes to apply online and be ready to respond quickly if they reply to your application. We inquired online about adopting our fur baby on June 19, 2021. We got lucky and got a response right away. Within less than 24 hours we got confirmation she was ours if we were willing to pick her up within the next day and a half. The process required an online application (be ready to get personal), several home video submissions, and some follow up questions. We picked her up on Fathers Day, June 20 2021! So it was quite the whirlwind. It was amazing and life changing! DAR is living up to their mission.They're doing the hard work. Don't expect them to bend to you. Remember, you are not the client - serving the animals are their purpose. Please don't write or pay attention reviews that they didn't respond to email. You're only hurting animals that deserve forever homes.

For the past month, I've been exchanging communication with Purebred Plus Cat Rescue over a bonded pair of kitties I had seen on the Adopt a Pet website. It's been nearly 10 years since I had a bonded pair of cats and these two were a perfect match for me. I reached out late June and the foster parent and I had a good exchange. I prepared my home to welcome the boys, including spending several hundred dollars on a chewy order based on recommended items, including getting permission from the homeowner and property management company, including requesting an emotional support animal (ESA) letter for the boys through an online agency, including having my references verified, essentially jumping through all the hoops for the past month, all for the foster parent to move forward with another applicant immediately after I missed my appointment. The foster parent was unwilling to accommodate rescheduling of the meet and greet after making many attempts to communicate with her via email, text and voicemail. I'm writing this as a warning for others considering adoption from this nonprofit based on the cruel and swift decision-making to deny my application after a month of determination on my part for what should have been an easy adoption. I've tried reaching out to other volunteers within the nonprofit for assistance and remedy on this matter but don't know what to do at this point. But if you're considering adopting from this local non-profit, I recommend trying a shelter or another one instead based on my personal experience.

I don't understand the negative reviews for Purebreds Plus, I've adopted two cats (Rocky…read more(originally named Marco) and Gino) from this agency and while the adoption process was lengthy, it was straight forward. The rescue and adoption process is about finding the right match for adopters with the cat's well-being as a priority. Regarding failure to disclose existing health issues like FIV, from what I've seen, the health issues have always been clearly stated on the website, back as far as I can remember dealing with this agency, so about 2009. Some of the reviewers mention not getting the cat they wanted. Honestly, it's about what's best for the animal, and not all cats (like a Savannah or Bengal) are the right fit for everyone. Some exotic breeds of cats are for more experienced owners, preferably those with previous experience with the breed; the vetting process is in place for a reason. Savannah cats, for example, are highly energetic, athletic cats that need mental and physical stimulation, they are also escape artists. So if you have kids who may leave the door open, or you aren't willing to have active play time with the cat, then a Savannah is not the right cat for your family. That said, we adopted Rocky in 2009, as a companion to Smokey. We drove to Santa Cruz and spoke with Harriet. After describing our existing cat (a grumpy Maine Coon who is a bully) and the home situation (multiple generation household), Harriet chose Rocky for us, which was THE absolute best fit. Rocky was an older Rag Doll, who was calm and patient, but also would correct Smokey if he got out of line. (hey, cats need to learn manners just like anyone else). When Rocky passed a few years ago, we adopted Gino, a Maine Coon Mix. And similar to the first experience, the process was much the same. In all, yes, there will be the occasional negative experience, but I would adopt from Purebreds plus rescue again when we are looking for another cat to adopt. Please keep in mind, Purebreds Plus is run by volunteers, it's not cheap to foster, feed, and care for these animals, and they made it through a pandemic. And then they have to weed through applications and interviews, which is time consuming and emotionally draining, even in the best of circumstances.

Their customer service is outstanding. They engage on Facebook & their friends of YCAS website is easy to navigate. I will admit I reached out to other shelters simultaneously for meet and greets, and I will tell you they were all soooo difficult. YCAS made it so easy for us! I filled out an inquiry form and someone got back to me same day. They were flexible with my schedule as my boyfriend couldn't get the time off work and we had to push out our meet & greet to Saturday (called on a Monday). The staff were very helpful there and introduced us to another dog in addition to the one we came to see. They know dog people when they see them, and trusted that our dog would be comfortable/safe meeting our new potential dog. All went well! The checkout/adoption process is easy. The staff at the front desk are knowledgeable and helpful. We couldn't believe the adoption fee was such a great deal, we definitely donated more. We are just about a month out of adopting and it has been such a smooth transition. Thank you YCAS!

You really have to wonder if the people running things here don't actually want dogs to get adopted…read morefor some reason. They are appointment only; bold choice, but I guess I get it if you only have the budget for one person to handle adoptions or something. They require you to bring any dogs you already have to the shelter with you; I can't imagine that the majority of dogs wouldn't be extremely stressed out being brought into a shelter which would make any interaction with another dog at best, less than accurate of how they will interact in a home. They are weird about footwear. I emailed the adoption person and explained that my dog gets extremely carsick but would I still be able to make an appointment to adopt a dog. She replied that it was STRONGLY recommended but exceptions could be made on a case by case basis and which dogs was I interested in? I sent the names of the dogs. She couldn't be bothered to get back to me. Ok then. Normally I would say that at the end of the day, management has the right to do whatever they want. However with this type of thing I think that no, you don't. What you have is an ethical obligation to act in the best interest of the animals in your care. Having extra hoops to jump through and prohibitive protocols is not doing that. We ended up adopting a very sweet dog from the Sac SPCA. And we weren't required to make our other dog violently ill to do so. Or wear special shoes. Just saying.

I have never experienced…read moresuch a wonderful kitten that is already litter box trained and very sociable and very trusting and very easy to work with and love and take care of because she was so well cared for during her developmental stages before I adopted her at three months. I have enjoyed the companionship of many cats over the years. this girl and I were meant to be together and I recognized her the instant I saw her picture on the website but I held back until I got to meet her and hold her, then I knew that this was a good match for me. The adoption process was very straightforward and easy and I appreciated how much paperwork they put me through because it helps me know that they really are screening out people who would not love and care for their pets appropriately, as best they can. it's a relief to me that she's already had all of her shots up until now and she's microchip and she is spayed and she is just so funny and happy and snuggly. if I could I would give Front Street 10 out of five stars!!! and the staff at the PetSmart and the facilities are very good. Thank you for delivering my new pet so carefully and kindly. The people who foster the animals before they are adopted have done an expert job of acclimatizing the cat to human socialization and how they get along with other cats too. Sorry I am not comfortable sharing her picture and name publicly on this platform but if anyone is interested in adopting a pet from Front Street Animal Shelter, I highly recommend it. It was a great way for our 11 year old to prove she was responsible and ready to have her own kitten. The kittens needed some extra care in the beginning, but the shelter provided everything and summer break allowed extra time to care and cuddle the 4 sisters. It also brought our family closer together as we all happily chipped in to help. The shelter was very busy (lots of kitties needing care) so we had them a little longer than expected, but we were in tears when we had to say goodbye. Except, we did end up keeping not one, but 2 of them! It was great being able to pick the 2 that were the best fit for our family- fostering allowed us lots of time to learn their personalities. The other 2 adorable kittens were quickly adopted at the shelter's well-organized pet adoption event by the same family. We are so happy the kittens all have a sister to play with. 2 was the way to go! If you are thinking of fostering, do it! It is an awesome experience you should do at least once if your life to give back. Such an amazing feeling to save their lives- because that is what you are doing!

They were also were responsive via email when I asked a few questions prior to our adoption appointment. The shelter is kept very clean - the dogs really have a great place to stay there while they wait to find their forever homes! The staff are also very knowledgeable, and answered all of my questions about animal behavior and introducing a puppy to an adult dog. I also called back a few days later with a question, and my call was returned by the wonderful woman who coordinated our adoption within a couple of hours. Overall, I highly recommend this shelter - they know what they are doing, their adoption fee is reasonable (we paid $300 for our first dog at a different shelter, CASF only asks for $200), they are clearly excellent at what they do, and they do it because they love to do it, and that shows. We are confident that if any issues arose with our new puppy we could reach out to them and they would be of assistance. Please adopt, don't shop, and consider adopting from CASF!

This place operates way more like a puppy-mill resale business than a real rescue. They pushed a…read moredog on us that they claimed was a sweet, easy companion, but what we actually got was a high-drive, reactive dog that needed hours of structure and training every single day. None of that was disclosed. And we have a cat who's lived here peacefully for years, the dog they gave us immediately showed unsafe behaviour toward him biting his neck and ears and not releasing all this as a 9 week old puppy supposedly. When we brought the dog back, the woman there was rude, dismissive, and tried to blame us for not "introducing them right," even though we followed their instructions. The attitude was the exact same as a backyard breeder, take the money, dump the dog on you, refuse to take responsibility, and then guilt-trip you when reality doesn't match what they sold. We lost $500, stressed our home, and risked our cat's safety because they couldn't be honest about what kind of dog they were placing. It felt nothing like rescue work, more like flipping dogs and hiding behind rescue language as apparent when the founder shows up to collect a dog in a brand new 90,000$ Audi. I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND THEM TO ANYONE, JUST ASK THEM FOR PROOF OF WHERE THESE PUPPIES COME FROM.

Everyone was kind and friendly, and you can genuinely tell they love being around the animals and take great care of them. There were rabbits, kittens, cats, and dogs available for adoption. I would definitely recommend the City of Elk Grove Animal Shelter if you're looking to adopt or simply want to visit and meet some wonderful animals. So, unfortunately, my dog got attacked on Monday, and because SPCA was closed that day, I wasn't…read moreable to get him evaluated until the next day. But I will say, I'm really glad we were able to get him seen because the experience was honestly amazing. The exam fee was only $30. And let me tell you--here in Sacramento, you don't usually hear $30 when it comes to getting your pet evaluated. You're hearing prices like $176, $186, or even $210 just for an exam. So, $30? That was definitely affordable for us. You do have to pay ahead of time to secure your appointment, so keep that in mind. We got there pretty early, so we waited a few minutes and filled out some paperwork before my pup was seen. They evaluated him, and thankfully, he looked really healthy overall. They ended up charging us around $130 for the additional treatment, which included sedation, cleaning his wound, an injection, X-rays, and checking to see exactly what was going on with his injury. After everything was done, we were able to pick him up, and they went over the charges with us after the visit. I will say, they mentioned that they weren't fully open to the public just yet, but from my experience, it seemed like they were currently accepting appointments. So, if you're planning on taking your pup there, I would definitely recommend calling ahead to make sure they're accepting appointments and to save yourself some time. They also provide vaccinations, adoption services, and behavioral training for dogs, so they offer quite a few different services for the community. Overall, I have to say this has been one of the best customer-service experiences I've had so far here in Sacramento. Everyone was helpful, the process was straightforward, and most importantly, my pup was taken care of. If you're in the Sacramento area and looking for affordable services for your pet, I definitely recommend checking them out!

Unfortunately, our experience with the staff was very different. We spent about 4 hours here because we originally came hoping to adopt a Scottish Fold. Unfortunately, we ended up being just two people away from getting one, which was disappointing, but of course we understand that there are many people looking to adopt. What was more frustrating was the overall experience with the front office staff. When we asked questions, they often seemed annoyed or dismissive, which made an already long and stressful process even more difficult. We never felt particularly welcomed or like our questions were appreciated. We also briefly went over to the dog side and had to leave almost immediately because of the strong smell of urine, feces, and vomit. I understand that animal shelters are difficult environments to keep perfectly clean, but the odor was overwhelming. The volunteers really were the bright spot--they were genuinely kind and compassionate. I just wish the same level of warmth and customer service extended to the staff. Overall, I personally prefer the Elk Grove Animal Shelter, where we've had a much more positive experience.

Inside lots of organized racks of clothing, lots of shoes, a jewelry counter, a room with higher end goods. Then we realized that there was another building next door with housewares and I think more books. We picked up a few things here and took them over to the main building to check out, the cashier was very sweet. I think the prices were fair and benefiting a great cause. I would be a frequent shopper here, if I lived near.

When I contacted them a few days later the girl first said she mix some medication For us to pick up , I contacted another number of where the lab work was done and vaccinations were done at UC Davis and they advised they couldn't release the kittens medical information to me only the SpCA, why? Because the kitten was sick ! Obviously, shouldn't I be aware of medical issues with an animal I just adopted!? about 20 minutes later they said it was not their kittens even though they were currently treating them with meds but that it was my" elderly cat" (he's 10). I took my cat straight away to our vet who tan blood work( $570) took stool samples and advised he needed medication for parasites deworming ect. The SPCA refused to give us the medication for the kitten we adopted but told us it would be best if we just returned him to the foster who was caring for him. All they are interested in is the "DONATION" of $135 or "Fee" . I am happy to donate to the care and rescue of all animals but I will not contribute to staff not doctors giving medical opinions and letting sick animals be adopted knowingly. We were told the cat may have diarrhea due to them changing the food. Clearly this was not the reason. They don't respond to emails, they don't have an office number they are unorganized. I have adopted several cats from shelters and SPCA. This is a common occurrence of how pet adoptions happen.
