My 30lbs "Yorkie" who is actually a Chihuahua. Come on now, DAR.
    Gina Y.

Apparently the rescue doesn't know how to read. They left a comment on my last review and TRIED to insult me for not knowing a Yorkie is a toy breed. Not sure what that has to do with anything since the test results don't say toy breed, it says toy fox terrier which is its own breed. Even if they tried to argue that Yorkie fell under the terrier group, the percentage was 12.5%. My dog is clearly not a Yorkie based on the picture attached but they still up-charged based on the breed. It's funny how they tried to be disrespectful by saying he is a Yorkie based on the results but also said these breed tests aren't accurate. Which one is it DAR? Are the tests accurate or not? Were you wrong or not? How much more contradicting are you going to get? It's also interesting that this is the only part they commented on and not about how they stopped communication, breached their own contract by not vaccinating or neutering our dog, and they ripped us off since we paid extra for to have our dog vaccinated and neutered by the vet they previously worked with. DAR takes no responsibility and blames everyone else for their faults. But it's not a secret, just take a look at every comment they've left on a 1-star review. They're literally showing how much of a joke the rescue is and how petty and disrespectful the owner is. I've never dealt with a business that treated their customers like scum. Not sure how you expect to taken seriously and respected when you go around belittling every bad comment. Maybe they should invest their money into learning how to run a business and take some basic communication courses since they're scamming all these people for their money anyways.

This is my best friend Torben

I was able to adopt my best friend Torben in December 2019 when he was 8 weeks from Davis Animal Rescue. The adoption process was easy. I filled out an application and sent photos of my property, inside the house and outside showing that it would be a safe place and plenty of room for a dog to be able to run around. My coordinator setup a meet and greet and after everything went well I went home with my new best friend. I like that they request updates after the adoption process because it shows they care about the animal's. I'm so thankful for the opportunity to be able to adopt through DAR team and highly recommend them to anyone who are in a position to be able to take on the responsibility of a new pet. Thank you to the whole DAR team for finding these fur babies safe and happy forever homes. Keep up the good work.

Dad and sister taking me for a little playtime in the snow!! LOVED IT!!

We couldn't be happier about our amazing rescue dog Bandit from Davis Animal Rescue (DAR). We lost our beloved dog in August and we knew she could never be replaced but thought if we could rescue a dog she would be happy about that. Bandit is such a great cattle dog mix and the DAR volunteers were so helpful with the process and answering all the questions we had. They even met us an hour from their home late at night to accommodate our schedule. If we decide to get another dog we would seek a rescue from DAR first. Thank you for all you do with these dogs and cats needing help!!

I don't know if this is allowed but I wanted to share my heartbreaking experience of trying to…read moreadopt a bonded pair through this local non-profit here in town. For the past month, I've been exchanging communication with Purebred Plus Cat Rescue over a bonded pair of kitties I had seen on the Adopt a Pet website. It's been nearly 10 years since I had a bonded pair of cats and these two were a perfect match for me. I reached out late June and the foster parent and I had a good exchange. I prepared my home to welcome the boys, including spending several hundred dollars on a chewy order based on recommended items, including getting permission from the homeowner and property management company, including requesting an emotional support animal (ESA) letter for the boys through an online agency, including having my references verified, essentially jumping through all the hoops for the past month, all for the foster parent to move forward with another applicant immediately after I missed my appointment. The foster parent was unwilling to accommodate rescheduling of the meet and greet after making many attempts to communicate with her via email, text and voicemail. I'm writing this as a warning for others considering adoption from this nonprofit based on the cruel and swift decision-making to deny my application after a month of determination on my part for what should have been an easy adoption. I've tried reaching out to other volunteers within the nonprofit for assistance and remedy on this matter but don't know what to do at this point. But if you're considering adopting from this local non-profit, I recommend trying a shelter or another one instead based on my personal experience.

I don't understand the negative reviews for Purebreds Plus, I've adopted two cats (Rocky…read more(originally named Marco) and Gino) from this agency and while the adoption process was lengthy, it was straight forward. The rescue and adoption process is about finding the right match for adopters with the cat's well-being as a priority. Regarding failure to disclose existing health issues like FIV, from what I've seen, the health issues have always been clearly stated on the website, back as far as I can remember dealing with this agency, so about 2009. Some of the reviewers mention not getting the cat they wanted. Honestly, it's about what's best for the animal, and not all cats (like a Savannah or Bengal) are the right fit for everyone. Some exotic breeds of cats are for more experienced owners, preferably those with previous experience with the breed; the vetting process is in place for a reason. Savannah cats, for example, are highly energetic, athletic cats that need mental and physical stimulation, they are also escape artists. So if you have kids who may leave the door open, or you aren't willing to have active play time with the cat, then a Savannah is not the right cat for your family. That said, we adopted Rocky in 2009, as a companion to Smokey. We drove to Santa Cruz and spoke with Harriet. After describing our existing cat (a grumpy Maine Coon who is a bully) and the home situation (multiple generation household), Harriet chose Rocky for us, which was THE absolute best fit. Rocky was an older Rag Doll, who was calm and patient, but also would correct Smokey if he got out of line. (hey, cats need to learn manners just like anyone else). When Rocky passed a few years ago, we adopted Gino, a Maine Coon Mix. And similar to the first experience, the process was much the same. In all, yes, there will be the occasional negative experience, but I would adopt from Purebreds plus rescue again when we are looking for another cat to adopt. Please keep in mind, Purebreds Plus is run by volunteers, it's not cheap to foster, feed, and care for these animals, and they made it through a pandemic. And then they have to weed through applications and interviews, which is time consuming and emotionally draining, even in the best of circumstances.

None of that was disclosed. And we have a cat who's lived here peacefully for years, the dog they gave us immediately showed unsafe behaviour toward him biting his neck and ears and not releasing all this as a 9 week old puppy supposedly. When we brought the dog back, the woman there was rude, dismissive, and tried to blame us for not "introducing them right," even though we followed their instructions. The attitude was the exact same as a backyard breeder, take the money, dump the dog on you, refuse to take responsibility, and then guilt-trip you when reality doesn't match what they sold. We lost $500, stressed our home, and risked our cat's safety because they couldn't be honest about what kind of dog they were placing. It felt nothing like rescue work, more like flipping dogs and hiding behind rescue language as apparent when the founder shows up to collect a dog in a brand new 90,000$ Audi. I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND THEM TO ANYONE, JUST ASK THEM FOR PROOF OF WHERE THESE PUPPIES COME FROM.

Answering that sign was my foot in the door to the shelter and how I started to visit the cats & dogs, take the orientation/volunteer classes, do doggy day outs, sleepovers & adoptions here at the shelter. I've even dropped off blankets, towels, hand towels for donations, just walked around to visit & give treats to happy, sitting doggies, to hang out with cats, and also for a sad reason-to quarantine my beloved doggie due to a biting incident. I'd highly recommend this shelter to fill your heart-to lend a hand, volunteer, and share your love with these unhoused animals by walking them around the block, taking them for a hike, a Pup-Cup at Starbucks, to the park, or to even foster the cats, dogs, or other furry creatures. The first animal we fostered here was a Boxer mix named Josh Hartnett. He was so full of energy, excitement. He was the star in his own show and our family was just his supporting cast. The surprising & amazing thing the shelter did, was the immense support we got while fostering Josh. The shelter provided all the toys, the kennel, dog food, leash, dog bowls, pretty much everything you would need to take care of a dog in your own home. Any time I had a question or concern, I could text them & they were timely to answer & meet all my needs & concerns. I remember one time Josh quickly chewed up all the toys they gave us. Concerned with his stress or even him chewing up our belongings, I asked the shelter for more chew toys. They put some in a bag for us & left it outside for easy pick up since I had to come by after hours (they close at 6pm). I liked that they are responsible for their animals reproduction and even had an established appointment for Josh to be neutered which I knew about via email. After 2 weeks of fostering Josh in our home, he went to get neutered. I kept track of him when he went to another dog foster parent, then eventually when he found his fur-ever home. Sadly, we didn't get to see him after we fostered him, but the best part was seeing him be loved & cared for on the Facebook Foster thread by other amazing foster parents then his eventual adoption. The shelter does really well to help the public be aware of the energy, social needs, cat/dog friendliness, housetraining needs, a potential owner would like to know before adoption. Green paw means pretty laid back, orange paw is in the middle, purple paw is high. There's signs above the crates that specify their approximate age & breed. While a potential adopter walks around they're welcome to grab a paper bowl & fill it with treats & treat them as long as the dogs are quiet, and sitting. Adopters are also welcome to hang out in a room or in the play area with a dog they'd like to get to know more. There's also a whole cat/kitten section and a nice room to hang out with them. I've even seen other little creatures available like hamsters, guinea pigs & turtles there etc. Here's the link to adoptable dogs: https://elkgrove.gov/adoptions/current-dogs-shelter Here's the link to adoptable cats: https://elkgrove.gov/adoptions/current-dogs-shelter Here's the link to adoptable animals, not a cat or dog (I see a bunny & a turtle currently): https://elkgrove.gov/adoptions/current-dogs-shelter I love that they have barn/working cats too. Adoption fees range from $10-$150. Minus a star because they don't seem to have enough staff/helpers anytime I've been there so often times I have to wait. Good luck & hope you find an animal you can love, foster and hang out with!
