I am 34 years old and just starting my journey on hospice care. Despite a year-long and strict "no…read morehospital trips under any circumstances" came to Franciscan Hospice House because my pain was unmanageable, which I have previously gone to ER's to aid in getting some relief, but was the only met with indifferent, yet judgy doctors who labeled me as a drug seeker, and didn't care if there was anything wrong with me. Especially considering I have an issue where I metabolize medication too quickly, making it far less effective, and making me need higher doses of everything, which does not go over well in the ERs. I had to become used to the fact that if I were going to an ER visit or a hospitalization, I was going to end up going home in worse condition then when I had gotten there, pain-wise. I was told that this place would be different in hospice is different, but I still expected it when I came here a couple nights ago. I was met with absolutely nothing but the opposite of everything I just described. All this time, I've been wondering where all of the good-hearted people, who got into medicine to help others to heal their pain, judgement free, had gone, and I seem to have stumbled upon them right here at the Franciscan hospice House. I can't say enough how amazing each and every person who works here is, and I wish I could recognize it in a way where I'm able to give back some of what they've given me, but posting my truth on the on this internet website will just have to do. All my dozens of ER visits and hospitalizations I have experienced in my adult life, made me feel like I was doing something wrong when I needed and asked for some kind of pain control, to the point where I was ashamed to even ask. I unlearned that behavior here, and I don't know if I could have gone on without that changing. I found no nefarious actions, or questionable intentions in anything that is done here by any of the people who work here, it's just good people. I was unaware they still existed. It's like finding a freaking unicorn on a bit stunned and unsure of what to do next, but this seems like the right step. I almost don't want to make any sudden movements and in fear that it might spook them and everything will go back to the hellish ways that I'm used to. If you're considering getting their services, my only advice is stop waiting and just do it, because for me, nothing but good came out of it. Your life might seem like that too, but if anyone were to pull out some more good parts of life, it would be them, and it would be here (I'm actually still a patient here as of right meow

I'll start with it's a nice clean facility. And some of the staff are angels here. But I was a bit…read moreuncomfortable on how much they drug up the patients here. My family clearly specified to not raise the Fentanyl and the sedative dosages on my mom without notifying us and they still did it behind our backs. The doctor just kept on apologizing when we complained about it. One nurse raised the dosages right after I went to the bathroom, it felt sneaky! She also kept pressuring us to press the button for more drugs when the patient was already comfortable. Also, the nurse on duty when my mom died was a bit inexperienced. We had to keep calling her back to point out that her breathing changed and she kept saying she's not leaving yet. Maybe the staff and this place should be more monitored/audited here.

Park Rose Care Center - Feeding tube area infected

0 Stars - If I Could Give Zero, I Would My experience with…read morePark Rose Nursing Home was nothing short of devastating. My daughter was a resident due to a brain injury, and the care she received was absolutely unacceptable. From the start, I was routinely gaslighted by staff when I voiced concerns about her health. She was hospitalized multiple times for completely preventable issues--like dehydration--because they weren't even giving her water until after her first hospital visit. She developed blisters on both feet, I found that her bed didn't even have a sheet--nothing to protect her from the rubber mattress. The area around her feeding tube was infected. Over time, I noticed swelling and hardness in her abdomen. When I brought this up to the nurse, I was dismissed and told it was nothing. I insisted on a hospital transfer, and thankfully I did. At the hospital, she was diagnosed with a distended colon and had dangerous amounts of air and gas in her abdomen from her feeding tube. The doctor said she was close to needing a colostomy bag. The rooms were filthy--floors were never clean, and mattresses were only wiped down when I did it myself. I had requested that she be placed in a wheelchair for at least two hours a day as part of her rehab plan. That only happened when I was present. Otherwise, she was just left lying in bed with no meaningful rehabilitation. She was rarely bathed or cleaned, and every time I visited (twice a week), I had to clean her myself. She often had congestion, despite the facility having an on-site respiratory team. It was clear that very little care or attention was being given. The staff was not only dismissive but repeatedly made me feel like I didn't know what I was talking about when I raised legitimate concerns. Even the doctor was essentially non-communicative until I was ready to remove my daughter from the facility. After the final hospital visit, I transferred her to another facility where she finally began receiving the care she needed. Park Rose Nursing Home is not a place for healing or recovery. If your loved one is vulnerable or unable to speak for themselves, I urge you to look elsewhere. This facility needs a complete overhaul--from staffing and training to hygiene and basic human decency.

I could visit any time--day or evening--and always felt welcome. Yes, the building is older and could use some updates, but the quality of care was excellent. I would absolutely place my dad there again if needed.

The cheapest state food that they feed your loved ones looks like it came out a can and is filled with sodium nothing nutritional at all. The laundry for three cottages is overflowing to the brim with the residents clothes due to the hot water tank being broken going on two weeks then when you ask about your loved ones laundry all hell will break loose! Who ever gave this place more than one star was either paid or straight lying through their teeth. If you want to place your loved one in a whole inside of HELL with under trained aids that dont know how to properly wash their hands the Cottages at University Place is your best bet! This place S U C K S !! Don't believe the website that shows pretty rooms they don't look anything like that in fact they look the exact opposite if you can imagine. Please let this place be your absolute LAST RESORT!!

My 94 YEAR OLD mother stayed all of 6 days for respite and she fell the last morning she was there, the Dir. Nurses couldn't even do an adequate assessment to decide whether she should go to ED as the doors are closed and, she couldn't determine if my mother hit her head or not. She was a fall risk and they knew this going in as we tell everyone that. She eventually called the UP MEDICS AND they called to ask if we trusted her to stay there until we picked her up????!! The poor permanent residents! The bathrooms have NO TOILET PAPER, PAPER TOWEL OR SOAP AND THIS WAS STILL DURING COVID IN MAY 2022!! I asked them every other time I was there and they said, oh, we will get some. Then, when she left they said oh, her missing, expensive clothing is still in the laundry. To this day they refuse to reimburse us saying they "don't reimburse," and can't find the items. I called their corporate offices several times and they either transfer me or never return my calls. PLEASE DO NOT SEND YOUR LOVE ONES THERE, THIS PLACE IS A SCAM!!!!! Totally agree with "Cheryl!!!!"

I have worked in various facilities, specifically with dementia/Alzheimer's residents and despite the beauty of this building inside and out, the care is horrendous. It is the same exact care that you can get at any facility. Of all of the times I visited, there were always new staff members that had NO idea how to properly care for my grandfather. I spent hours going in to the facility only to care for my own grandfather rather than spending the time to visit with him and cherish those moments. I spent my time reminding the staff of the issues with his care and what they WEREN'T doing. He spent $10,000 a month to live there and in all honestly I could have taken better care of him myself without him spending $10,000 a month. His valuables were lost within the first year of him living there. He died with nothing on the walls of his room, staring into the ceiling with no one by his side. I am very disappointed in his care at this facility and do not recommend spending that amount of money because I can assure you that the money is NOT going towards those residents. Those residents spend their days staring at a TV all day with no one-on-one interaction. The nursing staff does not recommend PT or OT to help assist these residents to live a healthier/active lifestyle. My grandfather was put into a chair and thats where he ended up the rest of his days being there. The nursing staff lies to you and tells you that they are doing the proper care needed and I caught them in the act of lying. I had to remind them to donn his boots because he ended up with a nasty heel wound that the facility NEVER healed (still there when he passed away). He was chair/bed ridden and they couldn't even remember to donn his boots which is VERY important to avoid skin breakdown. I had to clean his mouth out and wash his face. I had to massage his legs because they would turn black/blue from being immobile and the staff wouldn't do it otherwise, even when asked. I had to ask them to reposition him in bed to avoid pressure sores and skin breakdown. I even asked them to give him a bath because he had a bad odor to him. To me, this is not good care. This facility needs to re-evaluate where all of that money is going and start doing their job. It is heartbreaking to go visit a loved one that suffers from a terrible disease only to find out the people that take care of him don't actually care about him, they care about their paycheck and when their time comes to go home. The staff was never attentive when we would visit. The CEO of the company only cares about opening more facilities across the state so he can make more money. We had several complaints throughout our time there and never once was apologized to or even considered for our feelings. I understand taking care of dementia residents is not easy, I can personally say it's one of the hardest things I've done but I have never turned a cheek on my residents and always did everything I could to care for them as a human being. The staff needs to put themselves in the residents shoes and care for them as they would like to be cared for. Karma will come around for those that look the other way. I recommend you think about the significant amount of money you will put into this company/facility and the type of care that truly happens behind closed doors. Think about how your loved one feels. This place is no different than the rest.
