Negligence ~ On 12/1/25, I called mom's nurse, Heather Grisham, at about 9:30 am to ask if she could come as mom was in pain, was a grayish color, and appeared uncomfortable. Heather said she was on vacation but would come on 12/2 , her regular day to visit. She said mom was constipated so what I was seeing was mom probably trying to have a bowel movement. She said this call was a non-emergency and would call office to ask that on-call nurse be sent sometime after 4 pm. I was appalled and told her I would call office myself as I could not accept her trying to diagnose my mom on the phone without seeing her. Again she said the call was non-emergency as mom has been dealing with constipation. I told her I was trying to abide by their policy to call hospice first but insisted that my mom needed to be seen before 4 pm as what I was witnessing was more than constipation. She told me I could call the office but no one would be able to come before shift change later in the day. I called the office but Heather had already called to say that my request was a non-emergency. I called 4x and each time I was told that mom was suffering from constipation, this was a non-emergency & there were several nurses out. I told them to send someone with a fleet enema because if mom's distress & pain was due to constipation then I would see a difference once she was relieved. The 4th time I called, lady who answers phone said she would send someone at shift change so I demanded to speak with Clinical Manager, Ashley Alderman who repeated what she heard from mom's trusted nurse. I told Ashley that mom needed to be seen asap. It was now about 2:45 pm. Ashley said she would get someone to come in a few minutes. At about 3:05 pm Molly appeared at my door & said she was a nurse sent by Hearth with a fleet enema for mom. She inserted enema, asked if she should wait to help change mom's diaper & I said yes. She sat in a chair for about 15 minutes. She did not check mom's BP, oxygen levels nor any other vital signs. Mom had a BM, Molly helped to change her diaper & left. Mom had 3 more BMs. I changed her but she still appeared in distress and pain. I told her to hold on until Heather came in the morning as I did not think that calling back would result in favorable assistance for mom. Throughout the night mom was notably in distress and pain and no one from hospice called to follow up on Molly's visit. On 12/2/25 at about 10 am, Heather(nurse) and Riley, nurse tech came for their visit and to bathe mom. As Heather walked into the room & looked at mom, she immediately said that mom did not look good. I was so upset I walked out of the room. Within a few minutes, Heather called me in the room & told me to call the ambulance as mom's BP was 48. I said, "...now it's an emergency?" She responded that mom's BP was very low. I asked her to check it again and she said it had dropped to 40. I called the ambulance immediately. In the midst of fear & panic Heather shoved a form in my face & said I had to sign. I signed without asking questions & was later told it was a revocation form. Still was not sure what that was but priority was getting mom to ER. Upon arrival, I waited for labs & other intake stuff to be done. I was then informed that mom's kidneys had shut down, BP low & unstable, and she was sepsis. ER Dr said that she probably had a UTI. Mom was placed in ICU with little hope of survival as kidneys had shut down, brain was swelling, and BP kept dropping. Dr & nurse said she was in a difficult situation. While mom was in ICU, on 12/3, I received a call from Ashley Aldermann, Clinical Manager. She did not begin phone call with, "How is your mom?" She said Medical Director would not re-certify mom upon discharge because she did not meet medical need. Mom was being recertified every 2 months since 9/22 but now that she was fighting for her life she did not meet medical need? No apology, no willingness to right a wrong. They dismissed her because they knew they made a grave mistake. They must be held accountable for the pain & suffering my mom endured due to their negligence. read more

This organization deserted me and my wife when we needed them the most. The nurse assigned to my wife was missing when Ineeded her the most. The EMS came and put her in a hospice bed and no nurse was here to help me. My wife laid in caustic feces for 3 days before I could clean her. The nurse SHOULD have Know my wife was relieving her self if she was experienced. My wife's butt and back was purple from laying in her own waste. This nurse assigned to my wife deserted us when I needed her the most. She prescribed pills for pain when my wife couldn't even swallow. She finally prescribed liquid morphine which should have been her first decision. I had to try and clean my wife myself when she was covered in feces. I don't know about other hospice organizations but this one failed me in every way. The nurse whom I will not mention should be doing something else, not attending a person who is dying. My grandma was talked into using Hearth Hospice service from the hospital. At first my grandma came home with me and hospice had to come to my house to help. While living with me I would rate the service as fair. Maybe 3 stars. There were many sweet ladies, but getting them out there when we actually needed them took multiple phone calls and begging. My grandma is Miss. independent and didn't want me to burden her so she insisted on going home again and using hearth hospice at her house. We installed nanny cams so we could watch her and make sure she hadn't fell or anything. It was understood when she started the service that she has dementia and the family (me & aunt) would need to be contacted before they came out to see her and to make decisions about her care. While watching the nanny cam we were surprised to see a man out at my grandmas house when no one told us previously that he would be coming. We asked them to notify us first so we could notify gma (thru nanny cam she's bad at using the phone) and they agreed. But stopped all communication with me once she was home. They told me she makes her own orders and she told them she didn't want them to come out everyday like we previously planned. When signing up for the service the ladies literally told me I could lie to my grandma and tell her she's still on Home Health, but then when trying to help later they tell me she's in charge even though she has Dementia. She just needed someone to come out and change her daily. I know of 2 days in particular where they said they came out but didn't because I actually had grandma with me. This is Medicaid fraud. Probably the worst part was when we saw the man on the nanny aggravating my grandma. She fuses about old things that happen from time to time. The family usually just tries to talk positively instead and grandma always follows suit. This man instead seemed to think it was funny that grandma was gripping and he would agg her on to gripe some more. Do not use this company and if you do beware! They are not looking out for your loved ones the way anyone would want. read more

I am a private caregiver (independent contractor). Currently I'm caring for a married couple who are living in an assisted living community. Needing additional assistance for the wife, the daughter of my clients, hired Hearth Hospice to come in and bath her. The CNA who comes WAS professional and kind in the beginning. Then, my clients (husband and wife) expressed to me that the CNA came on unscheduled days and accepted the wife refusing to bath. I wanted to be assured my client was bathing so I contacted the nurse from Hearth. Instead of having a discussion with the CNA about the clients needs, he just told her I had complained about her. Later that day she came in very hostile and since then hasn't been capable of an ounce of decency or professionalism. She even attempted to damage my reputation by telling other CNAs at the facility that she felt "threatened" to come into my clients room if she were alone because somehow I was intimidating. She comes twice a week by herself. Obviously, that "feeling threatened " comment was only to do damage to my character. This CNA makes each visit uncomfortable because she's always so stone faced; I say hello/good morning/how are you and still she refuses to even respond, let alone be polite or friendly. I find myself having to leave the room when she comes because she's so incredibly tense and angry. Obviously I don't say anything to anyone at the Hearth office because the last time I tried to acquire assistance I was thrown under the bus. The nurse's initial reaction to go to the CNA and say I complained, instead of just talking with her about what the client needed, has created an environment for the CNA to harbor bitterness and resentment because I questioned her tactics. When caregivers or CNAs come into a clients home with apparent irritation and anger on their face .... everyone feels it! Especially the clients. I love that this CNA is kind to my client, but it's sad that she doesn't recognize that her inability to be respectful to the care provider who is there daily, makes everyone uncomfortable. read more

This has been nothing but a horrible experience for us. Today is the 3rd day in a row that my Mother in Law has spent agitated and periodically screaming for help, even after we told 4 different hospice workers we wanted her drugged into a stupor so she would not experience any distress or anxiety. One even told our sitter that this is just how it is for dementia patients. This is NOT how it should be, with all the drugs at their disposal, my mother in law is dying full of anxiety and fear, which is what hospice is supposed to not let happen. Honestly, after this experience, I would refuse hospice for myself if I ever needed it. My husband had been planning on volunteering for hospice after his mother passes but based on our experiences, has decided against it now. read more
