The residents were either sitting around on the couch and chairs in the "living room" area or doing something in their room. We were warmly greeted by several residents. When the activity director started playing his guitar we all joined in singing and had a great time. There is a garden out back where the residents can plant in the spring in raised beds. A screened in porch they can sit out in in nice weather. Each room has it's own bathroom, and the room's are good sizes with 2 closets. If our mother does move to NC this is the place she would call home.

I know I express the sentiments of my entire family when I say that if you are seeking care for your elderly parent ... consider this firm. My mom (Mim) lived alone and independently in the family home until just the last few months of her life. At 97 she "allowed" us to send in a caregiver in the early morning and the late afternoon. We met with several agencies in the area and she immediately chose Touched by Angels ... primarily because during the interview sessions with Pam Parrot, Mim was the person to whom Pam directed her conversations ... not me ... not my sister or brother. We were blessed in that Mim was still "sharp as a tack" so this made it possible ... but so often, family members and agencies will talk over the elderly and make decisions which they feel are best. This was not the case with Pam. The caregivers who were selected to work with Mim were handpicked by Pam who talked enough with Mim to know her interests and hobbies. They quickly became more than just helpers ... they became dear and trusted friends. On the day Mim took a big downturn and it was discovered that her doctor was out of the country, Pam was there helping me make that tough decision to transfer her to the hospital. Then on what was surely the hardest day of my life when the hospital transferred Mim to a nursing home, who showed up for moral support ... Pam Parrot. It's important to note that the weatherman was calling for extreme weather that morning (sleet, snow possible tornadoes). Each of Mim's caregivers visited her and called constantly to check on her well being. All went above and beyond what was written in their job descriptions. I will never forget this and I wholeheartedly offer my recommendation for this firm and the people who work there. They are the Angels when you need them!

He stayed in the nicu at UNC for two weeks, his father and I stayed at the Ronald McDonald house, along with my 2 children. The Ronald McDonald house is only a mile away from the hospital, and if you do not have transportation there is also the shuttle that goes directly to and from the hospital to the house. There's no real way I can describe it to you, but if you look at the photos you will see that it is really nice. This will be your home away from home, this is the place that will let you focus entirely on your child is nothing else. Now there is a continental breakfast every morning, but they cook the other meals for you. If you miss lunch or dinner, leftovers are put in the fridge. You are welcome to anything in the fridge or pantry that doesn't have somebody else's name on it. There is a smoking area. The room is just a really nice hotel room. There is an office area, actually I believe there is two office areas, and computers you can use. Staff is always very friendly, and everything is done with ease for you. When we came back to UNC, I knew the Ronald McDonald house was where I wanted to go. Your insurance or Medicaid will pay for your stay, including your transportation to and from the hospital. If you live pretty far away, you can stay with the patient at the Ronald McDonald house if you have upcoming appointments at the hospital. If you live kind of close it is usually that the patient that is in the hospital stays in the hospital and you can go back-and-forth from the Ronald McDonald house; this also includes any other family members that are going to be staying to see the patient. There are toy rooms, there's fun stuff to do; one night they had a clown come during dinner and all the children loved him. The memories I have of this place are so wonderful. Once they even had a Reiki master come and you could pick a time to have energy healing done on you! This was the first time I ever seen something like that in person, a few years later and I am a Reiki master myself now!

They found the movers to move her things out of her skilled nursing unit. And they held our hands like the dearest of friends as we navigated these hardest of days.
