Despite being at the correct dose (per *some* bloodwork), I was regularly cold, sometimes anxious, quick to go from not hungry to starving, and sometimes lethargic (despite living a very active lifestyle). After just two appointments with Dr. Simms and additional biometric (blood and saliva) testing, we both came to the conclusion that not only was I working against my thyroid by way of the foods that I was eating, but I was also suffering from iron and vitamin D deficiency. Additionally, I had moderate hormonal imbalances. These weren't far-fetched, non-Western conclusion, but founded in more accurate interpretations and more complete biometrics. The "prescription" was a variety of supplements to address deficiencies and excesses. I appreciate that Dr. Simms did not push me to buy the supplements offered at her clinic, as this would have been a turn-off for me. Through some research, I was able to meet my nutritional and supplements needs in an affordable way. I have not yet had my biometrics re-run, but I know that I am better off. I sleep better, feel better (mood and energy), am no longer cold, and more relaxed. I highly recommend arranging for a consultation with her and bring any existing blood work results to support your discussion. Though she was not covered by my insurance, she was well-worth the cost. And, I was able to pay for my bills with my medical savings account.

Our first appointment was virtual and I found her to be very attentive and engaging. She allowed ample time to discuss my concerns and objectives where my health was concerned. She was able to set up a protocol which included supplements, diet & exercise. Along the way, I have found her to be available to me for any questions and concerns that I may have had and has always replied in a very timely fashion. Today marks one month exactly since I've been on the regimen and I am so pleased to say that my symptoms have improved tremendously! She truly cares about helping her patients resolve their issues and attain optimal health. If you are in search of a highly qualified and knowledgeable doctor to address your WHOLE health, I strongly recommend Dr. Simms.

If you've read my reviews you're probably thinking that I eat a lot of cake! I have to admit I do,…read morebut with my wedding just 4 months away I've been trying to eat a little healthier. I by no means want to lose a ton of weight, but everyone always says that their wedding day was the skinniest they've ever been and if this is the skinniest I'm going to be I'm destined for a fat life! I recently took a "healthy in a hurry" class with registered and licensed Dietician, Dawn Jackson Blatner, at the Chopping Block. I was impressed by Dawn's knowledge and enthusiasm and even learned a thing or two about cooking. And this is coming from the girl who can barely boil a pot of water. So when I was writing the Weekly Yelp on sticking to your New Years Resolution I decided to interview Dawn, which you can read right here: http://www.yelp.com/weekly?editorial_id=NaxmyldPOv16inSmB3Y0xw Yep, that's me who writes the Weekly Yelp. If you like it, let me know. If not, keep it to yourself. I kid, I kid...feedback ALWAYS welcome. Anyway, I couldn't believe how much I learned from just interviewing Dawn over the phone! I've been hearing Dawn's voice in my head over the past month while eating at restaurants (ex: stay away from anything sauteed, only order dessert if there are 3 other people at the table to share it with, etc). I'm pretty good at sticking to my weight watchers (well, besides the cake problem), and I'm only of the few people in this world who enjoys working out, but I thought if I had just a few more tips from Dawn I'd be taking in that wedding dress at least 2 sizes! Well, maybe just 1 size, but a girl can dream! I booked an hour long session with Dawn (she sees patients every Friday at her Michigan Avenue office) and it was the most fun I had all week! I told her a little bit about my challenges of eating healthy (especially when I travel for work) and she gave me a few great pointers that I can't wait to put into use! The best thing about Dawn is that you can tell she truly loves her job; I've never seen someone get so excited about eating healthy! But if I start looking as good in my pants as Dawn looks in hers I'll be all about fruits and veggies too!. Even if i can't have my cake...

I wanted to meet with a nutritionist as opposed to a MD because I believe the body is meant to heal itself. Many diseases can be treated with the right diet, however western medicine likes to treat things with a little pill, which will only mask and not really heal anything. Anyways - for 2 weeks before our first meeting she had me track everything I ate and all the digestive issues I experienced in a food log. When I came in to see her, we spoke about my issues and then she went over the my food log with me. She had SO much information and was able to make it seem so simple and logical and easy to understand. We talked about how I ate, sitting down to meals, chewing food, things I ate, drinking water with meals, chewing gum and on and on. Beside addressing my digestive issues she also gave me advice and tidbits about how to eat healthier in general. Portions, types of foods, etc. I left with at least 5 items to change in my eating habits and many other suggestions for eating healthier. What I loved best about Dawn's approach was she really didn't ask for me to do a huge diet overhaul and entirely change everything. She looked at what I was already doing and gave suggestions on how to tweak it to make it healthier and easier on my digestive system. She's also a great person to work with, full of energy and enthusiasm, and chock full of knowledge. I would even recommend seeing her if you don't have a specific issue, but just want to be healthier in general. She totally changed my life (seriously) and was worth every penny.

One year later, I was hit by a car while I was on my bicycle and suffered a broken left wrist, a sprained right shoulder, and a left knee contusion. I knew that I could not heal faster by putting extra stress on my joints despite healthy physique. That's when I called Cristina again. She put me on a meal plan that not only helped me weigh 138 lbs with 14% body fat and have the body of a 21-year old but helped me heal faster too. The TL;DR is that the information she provided was horribly misguided and showed her lack of knowledge in weight loss issues with someone who is in their 50s struggling to lose weight. She was also incredibly rude and condescending. During our first meeting, she spent a ridiculous amount of time reviewing a confusing chart that she had difficulty explaining when she could have bottom-lined it in a few minutes. That left only a short amount of time to discuss calorie/macro goals, so we had to schedule a second apt. since we only had time to discuss breakfast. She REALLY needs coaching on time management, to not be able to discuss essential items like a food plan in an initial meeting is unacceptable. During the second apt, she sent me the zoom link after our starting time -- which is extremely frustrating since there were technical issues. I usually sign in a few minutes early when I have a link to work through any issues. I wanted to get straight to the calorie/macro information. She wasn't at all prepared for the meeting and asked if I was the wrong height and weight and then said, "oh, that's someone else" After giving her the correct weight and answering other questions, she took several minutes to calculate a calorie goal -- I could have done this by Googling a similar chart. My goal with working with a dietitian is to have someone with enough knowledge to put context and details around this information. She gave me ridiculous numbers for maintenance and weight loss calories. I had an overall idea of how much I should be eating due to going to a weight loss spa and losing 35 lbs based on the plan they gave me. When I told her this, instead of asking insightful questions, she was completely condescending, TELLING me that the calorie range I stated could lead to muscle loss and that there are more important things than just the numbers on the scale. Well, for me, right now the number on the scale IS the most important thing, I'd like to get 20-30 libs off and then I can start thinking about incorporating a muscle building plan -- She was soooo disrespectful of my goals. She's a bit cocky for someone with only a year out of school under her I'm so disappointed since I've had a great experience with Dr. Dever a chiropractor and with Dr. Toth - an integrative dr. Do lab work elsewhere- my blood sample was mishandled therefore the results of my test were false....and sent me to the ER. I started going to aligned in August 2023. They test and prescribe you supplements based on the results. I saw results due to the dietary changes (low fodmap) but my symptoms came right back once I resumed a normal healthy diet, which tells me the supplements I was sold didn't help. The diagnosis and explanations felt a bit rushed and the nutritionist was a waste of time. I didn't get any improvement or new knowledge from my 6 months as a patient here. I had my bloodwork done through aligned in January to check my progress. They called me in the middle of the night and told me to go to the ER based on the results. Turns out the sample was tainted and I incurred $2k in medical bills as a result, which Aligned refused to take responsibility for.

I sought out Michelle Gillespie Nutrition because my spouse had some frustrations with her body…read more She preferred to eat an ovo-vegetarian diet, exercised almost daily but was troubled that she was not getting stronger. Since we are a couple and grocery shop together and often eat similarly, Chelle suggested that she consult with both of us but focus most of her attention on my spouse. She asked for both of us to send her the results of routine blood-work ahead of time (mine from a doctor and my spouse from a lab). Chelle reviewed our blood-work and wrote lots of notes on them. She went over each measure and what it might mean for us. At one point, Chelle had a note to ask about irritability. I was so surprised because she was right. Based on my spouse's blood-work, Chelle recommended more protein in her diet. Next, Chelle gave us a questionnaire that asked us about our dietary tendencies. For example, do we usually eat vegetables first and then meat or the other way around? Chelle encouraged us to think about how we feel when we eat certain foods. Do we feel tired or bloated? After talking with us, looking at our blood work, and evaluating our questionnaires, Chelle recommended some dietary changes for my spouse. She needed to eat more protein; however, Chelle tried to be respectful of my spouse's ovo-vegetarian preferences. Chelle used some charts to show us how foods are categorized as either proteins or carbs. The proteins and the carbs were then subdivided into more categories. It was fascinating to learn that when eating a meal, we should try to eat certain foods first followed by others in order to feel more satisfied. Although Chelle prefers real food, she suggested some supplements and protein powders for my spouse. Later, Chelle emailed us some meal plans for my spouse that would respect her ovo-vegetarian preferences while getting her to eat more protein. Chelle did not focus the consultation on me, but I have been eating differently since meeting with her. I eat a LITTLE more protein than I used to (some sausage and cheese in the morning and then some yogurt and fruit around lunchtime) and I have noticed that I'm full longer AND am not bloated! My spouse has been using the protein powder that Chelle suggested and she has been getting stronger. We're both pleased with these results!

The combination of that information will help me with meal prepping and recipes to try!
