Love this studio and its space. Christine Cotter-Way is the real deal. She is how you teach yoga. As a person who is 200 hr YT and in continuous learning I love her classes and her style of teaching. She teaches you to hold space and time. Lets you arrive and sink into your met. I had such an issue with my hip and was going to see a dr the next week for a shot, I took one of her classes and she added ball rolling and WOW is all I can say. Dr said I didn't need a shot and continue to take yoga he also said I didn't need another appointment. Absolutely love this studio!!! I started with a 5 class package back in January and ultimately signed up for their unlimited monthly option after my 4th class having enjoyed my experience so much!! Jill and Gina, the current owners, have fostered an environment that is welcoming, supportive and focused on each individuals well being. The space is bright and airy and offers a varied class schedule. All yoga equipment is provided at the studio but you are welcome to bring your own. They offer virtual classes which provides flexibility and ensures in studio classes are never overwhelmed. Pricing is also reasonable with a variety of packages to choose from. Parking is never an issue with abundant street parking available. I've attended classes instructed by Jill, Gina, Heather, Christine, Theresa and Raman and highly recommend all of them!! Overall, a good yoga studio with a fair amount of class options daily. Being pregnant for the first time, I was a little nervous to go to all levels classes that weren't specifically targeted to prenatal, so the $20 one week unlimited special was great to be able to try out several different classes with various teachers. I particularly love Jayne's classes and the prenatal classes with Colleen. Jayne is an experienced teacher who was able to offer modifications throughout the class and assisted me with props as needed. This made me feel confident in what I was doing, as well as relaxed and at ease, while still getting a more active yoga practice in. The prenatal class with Colleen is also great. She tailors it to the people in the room and is very knowledgeable about prenatal yoga, as well as childbirth, sharing her own experiences where appropriate and ensuring everyone feels welcome and comfortable throughout class. I attended a couple other classes with teachers that I did not mesh with, so I would highly recommend trying out a few different ones before deciding what works best for you. None of the classes were bad, just didn't enjoy particular styles of teaching or the sequences, but overall I've had a positive experience here. read more

3.5 stars I have spent the last year or two very slowly recovering from a shoulder injury. I am still doing trigger point injections and physical therapy. I also had a previous back injury that resulted in sciatica. Thus, I started searching out less vigorous yoga classes that I might be able to participate in. I wanted to continue helping my body heal and especially, stretch; and also reap some of the meditative benefits as far as de-stressing goes. I found two classes that are for people with injuries at this location. Healing Tree Yoga has a promotion for $20 for an unlimited week of classes for first timers. I booked myself in both the Saturday class (Gentle Yoga) and Sunday class (Yoga for Healing). There are mats you can borrow if you do not have your own. There is a small area outside both classrooms with hooks for coats and small cubby holes. I think there are lockers in the bathroom.They also sell some of their products which include the bolster which I really like. Gentle Yoga: This class was held in the smaller studio. It was a chilly morning and so the instructor had brought in a portable fire place. It was very relaxing and we went through a variety of different poses and stretches. It was as the name suggests, gentle. There were certain points where I would have to pay attention to my body, and stop doing something, but the instructor was very open about modifications and not overdoing it. I would definitely like to come back to this class. Yoga for Healing: This class was done in the bigger studio and we were the last class of the night. It was very different from the previous class. In sum, we used many props (blocks, bolsters, blankets) and would lie in a position for an extended time. Approximately 5 positions in the hour. The room was darkened and music was used with very little speaking from the instructor. It was very different, and at least one of the positions did not feel great and I had to stop early. I am not opposed to going to this class again, I think it is especially beneficial for my goal of de-stressing. I am still just a little unsure about it. Overall the instructors were really friendly. The class sizes were very small only 3-4 of us in each class and one of them was my boyfriend who tagged along. I really liked this aspect. The other participants were also very friendly. I have a feeling I will eventually give this place more stars the more I come. Parking is street as far as I can tell. We managed to park right outside the door both times. Saturday morning was a little tougher than Sunday night, but to be expected. read more

I love the calm serene atmosphere of this studio. The classes are usually very good, I especially like Kathy and Checka. I've also taken a few workshops here and I've liked those as well. I've noticed that at this studio, compared to some of those in the city, tends to focus significantly on the well being, breathing, and stress relief end of yoga for substantially longer than typical classes (at least 1/3 of the class.) I like that, but if I want a more active workout for a longer period of time I'll usually just do a home yoga tape or go to another studio in Cambridge. As a few other reviewers mentioned, they changed ownership, but I really haven't noticed anything different. Other than that the 10 pass block (10 classes for $100) never expires now, which is great. Healing Tree has a huge variety of yoga classes available and a great schedule. The studio is small but spacious and everyone there is friendly and accommodating if classes start to get full and potentially crowded. I've never had a bad instructor here! Cost is reasonable and you can occasionally pick up a voucher deal (i.e. Living Social, Amazon Local) if you're trying to keep costs low. The Friday or Sunday evening restorative/Yin yoga classes are a great way to end your week. Rebecca is one of the gentlest, most pleasant instructors I've ever taken a class with (and I've taken a lot of yoga classes!). The Monday night slow flow vinyasa with Joanna is a perfect balance between gentle and challenging and an awesome way to start your week. I've also had a massage here in the past (a few years back) - I think I asked for an accupressure massage. It was worth every cent. There are other massage therapists in Quincy that I would recommend instead almost exclusively due to cost (Theresa at A Healthy Balance, anyone at Thai Health Spa), but you won't be getting a bad treatment if you go here. read more

This place might rate higher if I had somewhere else to compare it to. Fact is, I'm a yoga newbie. Got dragged her by my yoga fanatic sis and ended up loving it so I bought my own package of classes. My sister is more experienced at this and has tried other studios, and she claims this to be amongst the best she's tried, with top-notch teachers. Pluses: Good variety of classes Reasonable prices (for walk-ins too) with different options of packages Good teachers - not intimidating; let you go at your own pace Really nice, comfortable, clean space Convenient Can borrow their equipment for free, if you don't have your own Minuses: Wish they're evening classes worked better for my schedule, but that's because I have work hours that end later than others, so when I stay late, it's impossible to make it to classes. Healing Tree Yoga is the best yoga place I have ever been. Why? Affordable: $13 for a walk-in (free mat use if you forgot yours/don't have one) and $10 if you buy a 10-class block. This block can be used for up to six months, but, believe me, it won't last that long, you'll keep coming back! Atmosphere: Gorgeous new studio with pristine hardwood floor and windows letting plenty of diffuse light in. Watch the sun go down while doing yoga, how cool is that. Reasonable temperature (not overly heated, but warm in the winter, and AC in the summer). Variety: Gentle yoga for beginners or if you're injured/not feeling up to the big stuff. Hatha (medium) yoga and power yoga. No matter what your level and what class you're in, there's never pressure to do anything you don't feel comfortable with. There are also pilates, belly dancing and Nia classes. Nia is great fun if you just want to dance around and be silly but somehow get a good workout. Teachers: I have never had a yogi from hell teacher here. Examples of a yogi from hell: forcing you into a posture that's painful, acting like you're making an excuse if you don't want to do something, shouting you out in front of the class. At Healing Tree, all the teachers are very nice and ask before making adjustments, etc. Competitiveness: There is none. Sometimes you see this in yoga places. At Healing Tree, everyone is encouraged to do their own thing, not compare and to be friendly. Very refreshing. Location for public transportation users: One block from the Wollaston T station on the Red Line. Very convenient from those on the South Shore on the way home from work on the train and also close enough for Bostonians to hop the Braintree train. I can't say enough about this place. If you have been scared away from yoga for some reason, this is the place for you. I was close to quitting yoga after doing Bikram for nine months and getting injured and dissed in front of the class, and coming to Healing Tree for the first time was great and I've never left! UPDATE: I go to HT at least twice a week, at all different times. I have rarely met anyone snobbish, rude, clique-ish or who is a rich mommy who has a nanny at home. Most of the people I know are working mothers or non-parents like me (unless fur kids count). People aren't very "friendly" in that no one talks to people they don't know before the class, but hey man, this is New England. This is a very warm and inviting studio. Don't anybody be scared off. And as to the comments about the owner (Kathy), part of doing yoga is actually learning how to do it correctly. You can injure your body doing it incorrectly, or get no benefit from same doing it incorrectly. If you don't want to be corrected/adjusted, you can always just tell the teacher before the class. read more

I took my first yoga class about 8 years ago, and it has been a challenge ever since trying to find places where they teach yoga, not just yoga postures. Now that yoga is more popular, it is much easier to find studios but finding the right one is key. Healing Tree has filled in a large gap in the Quincy area. When I was preparing to move back to Quincy for a few months, I was researching yoga studios and came upon Healing Tree. One of the teachers at another studio told me she had heard good things about it. And there are many, many good things about Healing Tree. There is a nice variety of classes, albeit a majority are traditional hatha yoga classes. However, they have a great intermediate ashtanga class for those who want a little more of a challenge. All the teachers I have encountered have been fabulous, and I always have loved practicing with different teachers because I find everyone teaches me something different about a posture. Whether you are a yogi/yogini or new to the practice, you will enjoy Healing Tree. Everyone is dedicated to teaching yoga, not just yoga postures. I will miss Healing Tree and the teachers when I leave Quincy in another month or so but they were essential in helping me keep my practice going. Namaste! read more

My first stop to Healing Tree Yoga was exactly what my body needed! The studio was quiet, clean, and neat. The instructor was very welcoming and friendly, as were the other people in the class (who all seemed to know each other). The parking was easy and close by, also pretty close to the T. I am still relatively new to yoga and the instructor was very knowledgeable and helpful when needed and gave me some good pointers with a few of the poses I am not too familiar with. I would definitely recommend Healing Tree to anyone in the area (or even not - I came from Brighton) looking for a good quality class at a reasonable rate! I'll be back. read more

I first tried Healing Tree in the summer of '06 when it was still a relatively new place. I was visiting from LA where I was living at the time, and I had been doing Anusara yoga out there for a while. Needless to say I was kind of a yoga snob and was disappointed by whatever Boston had to offer. I was sick of the generic places offering mostly hot power yoga and overcrowded classes taught by aerobics instructors. As a side note, Healing Tree has an Anusara class on Sundays and it's awesome! Anyway, when I first went here, I think the place was still finding its community and core base of instructors and students, but even back then I knew I would really feel at home here. The owners are usually around, many times at the front desk, and they are both very welcoming. The facility itself is beautiful and very conducive to overall relaxation and focused yoga. The main yoga room has beautiful lighting, a skylight, ceiling fans, and it's always a comfortable temperature. The Sunday brunch idea (coffee and some pastries) is fun and a great way to meet people if you want to. But don't worry, there's no pressure to make friends. Students and instructors know when to leave you alone if you don't want to participate in class or before/after. Students and teachers do congregate sometimes before class in general, but on Sunday there's a nice reason to stay around and chat if you want to. I go there about a once a week now, and I definitely get the feeling that there is a nice community there now. That's very hard to create, so these people must be doing something right! I would recommend Healing Tree for anyone. I have even tried to get my dad and aunt to go there because they are intimidated by the kind of yoga places that make you feel like you don't belong. There are all kinds of people here - old, young, in shape, out of shape, suburbanites, urbanites, everything. There are also lots of types of yoga here. Newcomers won't be scared off, but longtime yogis will find something that suits them. I haven't been to any beginner classes, but have heard that they are great. I also haven't been to any pilates classes. However, I can tell you that Nikki, Stacey, and Kathy are all wonderful yoga teachers. Their classes are all a bit different, but suitable for most anyone who's done some yoga before. They all have great energy and you'll feel great when you leave! read more

Have been a Quincy resident for the past four years and have been going to Healing Tree Yoga on and off for the past three. Overall, I find it a great place for hatha yoga-- more relaxing and about stretching and meditating. I used to go to Baptiste Power Yoga in the Back Bay until it closed down (so sad!), so I miss the hot power yoga, but there isn't that option here in Quincy (there's a Bikram hot yoga studio, but I'm not a fan of Bikram). I really like all the classes I've been to. I especially like Kathy, the former owner. She always mixes things up and helps me improve my practice just in the way she explains things. And she's got a great voice for a yoga teacher. I know people have their favorites at Healing Tree, and I'd have to say she's my favorite. Very open and friendly atmosphere, and when I go on weekend mornings, it's not really too crowded. Definitely recommended if you live in Quincy and are anywhere from beginner to advanced! read more

Decided to try the prenatal class and was very pleasantly surprised! Maeve is a great yoga instructor who also is very positive and knows reiki and is nonjudgmental. She came over all the time to show me modified positions as I'm new to yoga and my belly and weight are both huge. I look forward to going back for prenatal and hope they start a mommy/baby or post natal yoga soon as well :) Depending on the instructor they will work the ac. When there was a sub for Maeve it got really hot and she didn't change the temp, maybe she didn't know. Maeve turned up the ac and it was fine the other day. The phones can be a bit tricky! I wish they had a full time secretary or at least someone to check the vm and answer back within an hour or two. It doesn't happen. But the yoga was great and I look forward to seeing Maeve soon. read more

I've only taken a couple of classes at Healing Tree, but there's always a small group coming and going to class. (generally, the times of the classes aren't working out for me that well right now.) That being said, I go there every 2 - 3 weeks for a 60-90 minute massage, and I LOVE it!! Martha (with her fantastic and authentic Irish brogue) is a great person and a really good massage therapist. I've recommended her to several folks who've gone and are now die-hard fans...You should go too! read more

I am writing to let everyone know about Josh Grant, Healing Tree Yoga and Wellness Deep Tissue Body Work " Extraordinaire". There are approximately 640-muscles in the human body. If you ever feel like you are carrying each of these muscles instead of them carrying you - GO SEE JOSH AT HEALING TREE YOGA. Over the past three weeks I had built up tension in every muscle of my body and I felt like I was a walking plank of wood. My neck was carrying my body and I was no longer able to turn my neck to align it with my shoulder. As a result, I could not sleep and was generally miserable. This is also a testament to the importance of keeping up ones Yoga Practice. Josh worked on me for one hour. He kneaded every muscle in my body and it was not long before I was able to feel like my flexible, relaxed self again. I am a 51-year old woman and am here to tell you no matter what age you are, or how fit you are, if you are cramped up and tension is driving your body, GO SEE JOSH AT HEALING TREE YOGA. I've took Vinyasa classes here for about a year before I moved this summer. I mostly went to Abigail's Vinyasa class and it was really great. Sometimes there is a wide range of skill levels and Abigail always goes out of her way to make everyone feel comfortable and included. She's really knowledgable, both about the history of yoga and the muscles involved in the poses. Really a great instructor. The studio is chill, especially during the off hours, and it's convenient to the T. The cost is reasonable, and the people are really nice. Drop in and check it out! read more

I have mixed feelings about this place. I go there because of the teachers - Nikki (and Mary Alice as her sub), but it is lacking in many things that would be easy and inexpensive to fix. 1. Sweeping the floor. Every time I go into the classroom, I have to take a wipe and do a sweep of the floor to remove the hair (gag) and fuzz from around my space. The staff could easily and quickly run and broom around between classes. 2. Lockers. There are a couple of cubbies by the classroom, and more in the bathroom. They are open cubbies with signs about how you shouldn't leave your valuables in them. This causes everyone to have to bring their bags into the classroom and leave their coats on the chairs. Investing in some lockers with keys and locks would go a long way towards improving the studio. They could use some of the wall space that is now taken up by visting artists. 3. Coat hooks. Again, take down some of the art work and put up coat hooks. 4. Hooks in the massage rooms. Hooks on the back of the bathroom doors. These small but important improvements would make me give them 5 stars. read more

First off, it is great to have real yoga classes in Quincy. I have been living in the area for over 10 years and am happy to support local businesses. Also, the instructors are well-trained. Being a general fan of Kripalu -- the style and the place -- I was delighted to see that the practice here has a solid grounding in postures and well-being. The various instructors I had all seem to know their stuff, have excellent playlists (I totally notice the music) and are very clear in their instructions. Mostly the place is without pretension and felt comfortable even though I am in a drop-inner and not a particular devotee of a one instructor. There is little of that mystique cultivated around the teachers, although if you want a chill-out, quasi spiritual vibe (LOVE chanting OM, myself), it's there without too many frills. read more

Healing Tree is a great yoga shop next to the Wollaston T station. The shop is always clean and all the instructors are wonderful. I usually go to the weekend Vinyasa classes with Becky and always feel great afterwards. Sometimes, you focus on props and other times, you are on the wall. Always something new to do and learn. There are also other yoga styles. The ashtanga yoga classes on Mondays are really cool. Great workout and you really focus on breathing and technique. If you are a yoga beginner, the instructors are always accommodating and giving tips for better technique. No yoga snobs here. All the members are friendly. read more

I recently moved to Milton and have been trying to find a yoga studio I like close by. I came to Healing Tree and took advantage of their new member promotion ($20 for one week of unlimited classes). I came to the studio numerous times and think I got a good feel for their classes. There was ample on-street parking in the area every time I came to a class. I like that they have a decent amount of evening classes since I am a night owl. I am usually not a huge fan of restorative classes, but I came for the Sunday gentle yoga class with Maeve since I had a whole week of unlimited classes. This was by far my favorite class at the studio! Maeve has a beautiful Irish accent and a lovely, calming presence. The class was so incredibly restful and relaxing. The vinyasa classes I took here were on par with classes I've taken at other studios, but I was not so impressed that I'd go out of my way. I was a little put off that some of the classes seemed kind of cliquish, although many of the people I encountered at the front desk were nice and welcoming. The ambiance of the place is pretty middle of the road. I've been to way nicer studios, but I've also been to studios that were a lot less nice. It doesn't look very inviting from the outside as it's in some sort of office building. However, the studio itself is decent with nice floors and natural light. I will definitely come back here occasionally, but find it's a little too far out of the way for me to visit regularly. read more

I think this place is pretty good for yoga. Although their Hatha and Vinyasa classes dont have much of a difference. The bikram class is amazing. I think that's the only male teacher. But he is awesome, informative and shows you exactly what to do. I tried their pilates one time and will never go back, because the instructor was over weight. Clearly the class she's teaching doesn't work if she's heavy. Also thought it was weird I tried to schedule a prenatal message and was told they'd call me back and let me know when the messues was available. Then never did. Wouldn't they just have a book? And doesn't this person have a schedule? Odd.... The place itself is always clean and good temperature. read more

I went to my first yoga class in CT a few weeks ago, and just wanted to see if I could maybe get into a groove back at home. I went Saturday am at 9, was late (hit EVERY light on the Burgin) I was a little nervous and semi stressed just for being late. I was welcomed and although it was crowded, we all moved around so I could fit in. It was just what I needed for my now second yoga class! Not too hard, not too easy, just perfect! The staff is so friendly and welcoming and the studio is nice. I love, love, love that there is parking because the area can get a little congested. I hadn't been to any yoga class since before I got pregnant so my first venture here was for prenatal yoga. The instructor was very kind and all of the other ladies there seemed very nice, as well. I've been many many times now and I love it. I've had a few different Hatha classes with different instructors and it's all wonderful. I like that we do variations of the same positions, it keeps it fresh. And I love how Kathy gives detailed instruction on how to position yourself, her patient instruction has really improved my practice. and it's true - there is a shower in the bathroom, I've also filled my water bottle from the sink and the tap water tastes just fine. :) read more

Easy to get to. On street parking. A clean, comfortable and quiet space, though rather small. I can't imagine going to a class here during prime hours. The staff are welcoming and friendly. Ok, so I've now been practicing at Healing Tree for about 6 months and I've tried nearly all the styles and instructors and have found and remained faithful to the few that I like the best. The wide variety of styles, from traditional Ashtanga to the more modern and playful Anusara, allows students to try new styles and find their niche and focus. The studio is still pretty young and seems to have a bit of a conglomeration of teachers, who sometimes don't even know each other, or at least that's my impression. I would be nice if HT could find a little more community among its staff and members. Still, the owners are very welcoming and always around. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful. Workshops are useful. I guess word has been traveling because the classes are filling up a little more. I DID finally cave in and indulged in a massage. I'd been having some upper back tightness and soreness and opted for a deep-tissue. I've never had a professional massage before so I have nothing to compare it to, but I was a little disappointed. I asked my therapist to focus on the areas of soreness, and she did, but the "deep-tissue" part was a little lacking. While it was deep, it wasn't to the point of the "good hurt" that I was hoping for. And the next day my upper back was actually MORE painful. From what I understand, $85 for an hour of deep tissue is on the low end, and so I guess I got what I paid for. Next time I'll spring for a massage at a higher end spa. I guess I have some mixed feelings about Healing Tree. It's close to where I live, convenient, and has some great classes and teachers, with affordable pricing and packages. They don't offer any advanced classes. Some of the "all levels" are definitely challenging, but I think overall I want a little more. I'm tempted to just give it 3 stars on this update, but I haven't been to any other studios, so I guess 4 stars stays...and I keep going back, so they must be doing something right... read more

Fabulous yoga studio. I had to stop doing yoga four years ago due to two major surgeries on my shoulders, and this studio has been an excellent place for reentry! I specifically enjoy gentle restorative with Maeve on Sunday nights, in addition to beginner Pilates with Sabrina and gentle yoga with Erin on Thursdays. They have a great schedule, very diverse classes and excellent instructors! This place clearly has a huge following who enjoy the studio! I suggest arriving 10 min before each class because it can get crowded. read more

I've been going to Healing Tree since June 2013. I've had Yoga classes with 4 different instructors - Cassie, Rebecca, Elyssa, and Kourtney. All of them were fantastic. I've been doing Yoga since 2002, so I can say that the quality and knowledge of the instructor makes a HUGE difference in the quality of the experience. All of these ladies knew their yoga and had a great energy that made the yoga sessions productive and satisfying. This is "true" yoga. I've gone to some sessions at the Y that were about the poses but didn't capture the intention and the mind and body spirit that Yoga is really about. This is not a problem at Healing Tree. Very high quality Yoga for ALL LEVELS. Various styles are available as well. I've also had body work done by Joshua. It was AMAZING. This place is a real gem. read more

I love Healing Tree Yoga for my yoga workouts. It's easy to get to and there is plenty of parking on street or in a small lot next door.
