Highly recommended!!! Went in to get a long overdue headshot for my LinkedIn profile, and came out with a product that exceeded my expectations. There is a lot that goes into getting a great headshot, and Alex couldn't have made the whole process easier. Setting up the appointment was painless through his website, which allows you to pick the package you want, the time, and location. He also donates a portion of his fee to a charity of your choice. After completing the appointment details, you are given a guide on how to prepare for your session. Came a few minutes early to the first session of the day, and Alex was already busy getting everything setup. When I arrived, he offered me something to drink before starting the session. Once we started, Alex helped me with the proper poising techniques, which may seem awkward at the time but ensure the end result is great. During the session you choose which photos you like the best, which he will then send you afterwards. Since I was already there getting a headshot, I thought it would be fun to do something more creative. Although, I had not made this request ahead of time, and it was not his typical style he obliged to my request. In fact, I felt he really appreciated an opportunity to do something different. The session lasted about an hour and a half, and told me he would have the pictures ready for me by the next day. Ended up getting the pictures earlier than promised (later that day), through a link provided to his website. From there you get the option to download the photos, and order additional retouches. But to be honest, the pictures turned out so well, retouching wasn't necessary. Very happy with the whole process from setting the appointment, working with Alex, and the final product. I found Alex by doing a quick Google search for headshots in Orange County so when I booked the appointment I didn't know anything about him other than what was on his website. The photos samples he had were great and I liked that he had a hair and makeup artist available (for a very reasonable fee) that knew his lighting and photography style so I took a chance and booked a session. For previous headshots I booked a separate makeup appointment with someone who didn't know the photographer and the results were not as good. I am not comfortable in front of the camera so having photos taken is always a bit stressful. I told Alex that and he said not to worry because he would position me in ways that would make it impossible to screw up the pictures. I didn't believe him at first but he was right, of course. Alex and RJ (stylist) were both so nice and welcoming and made me feel very comfortable during the shoot. They paid attention to tiny details to make sure my hair and makeup looked perfect and made constant tiny adjustments throughout to get the best photos possible. I tried 3 outfit variations and 2 backdrop colors in the hours session and I could have done more if I wasn't happy with what we got. The unedited photos I received to preview look like they've already been edited thanks to the expert lighting, setup, and makeup. There wasn't a single one in which I was making the weird faces I usually make when a camera comes out :) I was very impressed with the results and will absolutely book another appointment in the future. read more

I came across Alex through Yelp, so thank you Yelpers!!! I was NOT disappointed at all. Allow me to explain. (Settle in now!) First of all, Alex, the professional photographer, is NOT the older guy in the suit that features as the main photo of his Yelp profile. For some reason, for months before we actually met for the shoot I was under the impression I was corresponding with an older man, likely retired, doing this as a hobby. So on the day of the shoot I was actually met by this young man and his assistant (later I learned, fiancée) Sienna. Instead of the older guy (not that there's anything wrong with that!) I was met by this adorable, easygoing, funny, and extremely skilled couple! In fact, they look like models themselves. If I were to criticize at all, I'd say they were a little too good looking and made me feel nervous but then again I'd never done anything like this pro photo model type photo shoot before so it's not on them AT ALL!!! They also got me my favorite coffee drink of choice which they thoughtfully asked me a week before or so and remembered. Impressed! However, within the hour (I was working with them for like, 3) I was totally comfortable. Even when it was uncomfortable. Trust me the magazine photos are NOT natural poses! One of the most interesting things I'd learned that day was that posing at a professional shoot is anything but your natural, slouchy, posed, typical selfie self. Nope nope! But you quickly get the hang of it. How???!??! Alex and Siena made it so much fun and they took care of EVERY little pose detail. She sets up the hair, fixes your collar, gets you something to drink, helps you change into your outfits without messing your hair/makeup, and just overall bubbly, supportive, skilled photography assisting which is a hard job! Like my feet weren't reaching the floor so she got me boxes to rest my feet on. And speaking of equipment, as someone who does a lot of macro photography in dentistry, I will tell you that Alex has the best equipment! Huge backdrops in great variety, lighting of every kind, large pieces of foil that you could use to channel outer space, umbrellas, and yes - even fans! For that Beyoncé blowing hair look haha! You could go Gone With the Wind wind or you could go seabreeze wind. Alex has the camera wired to a Mac close by so you could actually see your photo RIGHT AWAY after it's taken, and use that for feedback and modification, and satiate your curiosity as well. I really had a lot of fun with this young couple. That sounds odd but I mean professionally they were on pointe. I had four outfit changes in a rather demanding first session ever. I guess I really jumped into the deep end of the pool. I got a headshot for my dental practice (all kosher, white coat, pearl earrings, you know! A real doctor pic) and since this was a real once in a lifetime thing, I also had several beauty shots done, one for my husband (no, not naked, but I'm sure they could do that too, photographers see a lot of skin I'm sure) that he can put in his wallet old-fashioned style. Given my Asian background, culturally, I wanted that super glowy, pale, lit-up, super idealistic, almost unrealistic, bright eyed, Korean drama look. I showed them a Pinterest wall (they asked for it! Genius) ahead of time, and also some of my favorite selfies. What this means is that Alex and Sienna REALLY LISTENED to what I, the customer, REALLY WANTED. And they made it happen. I couldn't be happier. So you wanna be a model????? Book your sesh with Alex and Siena NOW!!! Do it. You'll be happy you did, your LinkedIn will thank you, and your friends can OOOH and AAAAH at your beautiful self. Finally I forgot to add that Alex gave me ALL my photos once he removed the not so good ones (ie. eyes closed, yucky) and I was able to download them ALL in hi resolution. Also, he does shoot in RAW format. AND the images were quickly ready through a professionally presented email link from his business. WHEW!!! Oh and as if that weren't enough, I need to tell you that my photos were pro pro photoshopped haha!!!!! To perfection. At no extra cost. Advice esp for my corporate colleagues, - make sure your schedule is indeed free that day. They rent out a space in a business park and DO not flake as it will likely cost them. - day before: prep your outfits, make sure they're dry cleaned and pressed and fresh. Bring them to your shoot in a garment bag. - read Alex's blog and website and read his guidelines, they were very informative and helped me a lot. - whiten your teeth, get a cleaning, and floss well. Gingivitis, not attractive and it'll show! My incisal composites were a little visible. - bring your own makeup to touch up and hair stuff, there is a great mirror and lighting to use. It was time for me to get a headshot done for my law firm and it wasn't exactly something I was too excited to do. When I browsed diff options, I was really drawn to Kemp. His style was a really modern look, it had a feel that didn't have that corporate cheese that so many headshots are doomed with. When I went to his studio, he made me feel relaxed and had special tricks to help me look confident and better than I would have anywhere else. He was never rushing me and in fact offered to let me shoot more photos in different shirts, if anything I was rushing to leave as I was happy with the samples I had seen and wanted to get on with the touch ups. When I left, I forgot my shirt and he threw it in the mail for me at no charge and had my finished product ready to go within a couple days (he offered a preview the same night).
